Introduction
This report covers the concept of the contaminated soil in the construction. It provides the proper
description of the strategies or the methodologies that can be used in the proper construction of
the buildings. It involves the strategies related to the management of the contaminated soil in the
construction along with the specifications. It includes the description of the resources, cost or the
timescales which can be described by using the Gantt chart or the WBS structure. This also
provides the steps which can be used in the construction of the building by dealing with the
contaminated soil at the construction site. The building construction includes the several
mechanisms which include its budgeting and the time scale that can be properly described by the
Gantt chart.

LO1 Formulate a project that will provide a solution to an identified problem.
P1 Select an appropriate construction-based project, giving reasons for your choice.
Construction of the building is the type of process or the pathway through which the more and
more structures will easily add up to make the new real property. Sustainable development of the
building can provide sustainable development in the environment. So, to maintain sustainable
development, I chose the topic for this report is Contaminated soil in construction. Contaminated
soil is the polluted soil with the presence of the high amount of presence of harmful human-made
chemicals. There are many reasons behind the contamination of the soil that are the industrial
activities and the improper disposal of the multiple amounts of the waste.
The contaminated soil affects the construction of building in a very bad manner. This will create
time delays in the project and it will take the extra cost and demands the extra management
strategies during the construction. There are many issues which can be conducted between the
owner or the contractor because the contaminated soil can disturb the entire specification of the
building. The proper sustainability in the development of the building provides the attractiveness
in the construction and generate a low cost in comparison to the original cost for the delivery.
There are many factors which can change the budget of the construction including the design,
planning or the execution of the building construction. Contaminated of the soil can be generated
due to a weak plantation which is harmful to the humans as well as the plants (Akimoto, et.al.,
2017). The management requires the proper waste management of the disposal or the segregation
of the soil in the proper manner which can reduce the involvement of the waste in the soil. This
problem can be solved by using the physical execution which involves the awareness of throwing
the chemicals from the industries and factories at the proper place.

P2 Identify the main components of a project specification.
Specification of the construction is the part that includes in the contract. This includes the proper
description of the methods, qualities or the installation of the software’s that can be used in the
construction. This specification is the handwritten report or the document. it also shows the
proper scope or the objective of the construction project. specification of any project can be done
at the initial stages of the project starting. Project specification can be depending on the
designing of the project.
Mainly, the specification can be divided into three parts. They are described as:
Performance-based specifications
Perspective based specifications
Proprietary based specifications
1.The performance specification:
This specification includes a description based on the operations used in the installation of the
types of equipment. Its main aim is to provide the perfect outcome of construction which can be
useful to indicate the multiple functions in the project. this is the type of architecture which gives
the proper way to achieve the goals and provides the solution of the problems that can be faced
during the project at a time of instance (Chen, et.al., 2017).
2. The perspective specifications:
This specification includes proper information related to the installation of the material based on
a particular project. This shows the performance of the installation. It can be usually divided into
three parts:
Required projects: The project requirements can be commonly based on specifications
which may depend on the performance basis or the structural basis.
Execution procedures: It includes the factors based on the installation or the measurement
which can be used to making the project effective.
General provisions: It mainly focused on the descriptions related to the requirements or
the cost included in the project.
3. The proprietary specifications:
This specification includes the demands based on the installation time along with the proper u8se
of the products. This specification is only used to show the performance of the project5 through
which the best results in the project can be gained out.

There are some more specifications which can be described as open or closed:
Open specifications are the type of specifications which provides the detail of the
architecture which includes the proper details of the supplier or the contractor allowance.
It also includes the details of the extra alternatives of the approvals and the standards.
Closed specifications are the type of specification which includes the proper list of the
products and the systems. This specification is only required when the project needs to
meet with the criteria of matching in the construction of the project.

P4 Describe a range of appropriate techniques for generating realistic potential solutions.
Problems give solutions to the problems with the best effective approaches during the project to
make the construction successful. Problems are the challenges that can improve project
efficiency and quality. Problems may have occurred at different levels which may be small-scale
or large-scale. Problems can be defined as the scheduling of the solutions for each problem.
Mainly, there are five techniques or the ways which can provide the proper solutions for the
problems. They are described as:
1. Problem verification: Problem verification is the initial way which can provide help in
identifying the issue. It is because the effective solution is only getting for the problem when the
proper identification is getting done. Client and the server issues can be solved out effectively
buy this problem otherwise the solution is of the low quality which creates another problem
(Wan, X., Lei, M. and Chen, T., 2016).
2. Evaluation of the causes: Another process is to identify the main cause of the problem. It
helps in generating the proper solution to the problems. Problems are not the gap but it is the
chance to meet the challenges. It provides a better way which can make the project effective.
3. Exploration of the idea: This point provides the chance two solve out the problems with good
skills or it is time to show the skills in effectively solving the problems. This term will come into
existence after the evaluation or the verification of the problem. The problems can be solved out
by brainstorming or the mapping from the mind.
4. Selection of the solution: Each solution is having several solutions but the individual help to
select the proper solution which helps in making the project successful. Problem-solving
provides many ways to identify the perfect solution. There is the technique named as the trade-
off analysis, it helps in making the comparison of the solutions and then provides better
decisions.
5. Execution of the plan: When the determination of the problem gets completed, it is the
perfect time to execute the solutions which help in providing better solutions to the problems. Its
process is also referred to as the action plan. It means the excecution of the actions start form this
step.
