INTRODUCTION
Hospitality industry is the industry which
looks at serving the people with their service
and product. Travelodge Hotels is a hotel
operating in the hospitality industry
throughout the UK. This report highlights
the different type of business in the
hospitality industry. Further this report
explains the range of operation and
functional department in the organisation.
Further this report explains the contribution
of industry in local and international
economy.
P1 Explain different type of business in the Hospitality industry
Hospitality industry is the mixture of four business entity, business sector includes Lodging and Accommodation, Food
and Beverage, Travel and Tourism and Entertainment Business.
Lodging and Accommodation
Accommodation and Lodging is the first sector of the hospitality industry which focuses on luxury hotels and resort,
accommodation sector is very broad in size. This business looks at providing lodging foe sleep, rest, food, safety and
shelter. Storage of luggage is the common household function of a Lodging and Accommodation business.
Food and Beverage
Food and beverage are another business of the Hospitality industry and it is crucial business for the industry. It looks at
providing the food and beverages to the customer. There are many different businesses in the food and beverage
industry such as luxurious Michelin star restaurant, or a relaxed coffee shop. Food and beverage business also include
the services like Quick service establishment, caring business and Full-service restaurant.
Travel and Tourism
It is the biggest sector of the Hospitality industry which looks at providing travelling services to the customer. This
services generally includes trains, cruise ships, airlines, and several crew members in their service. This industry
related to organising trip and the fun tours. This is not enough it also looks at organising the formal and informal
meeting for the organisation.
Entertainment Business
It is the last sector of the of the Hospitality which relates in bringing joy for the customer in the form of laughter and
the event. There are many businesses which comes under this sector some of the example are Marinas, Sports and
gambling, Nightclubs and Bars.
P2 Explain range of operational and functional departments in the travel and lodge hotel
Functional Department
Marketing: It is the functional department of the Travelodge which looks at the marketing function of the department which includes market research, promotion of the
product of the organisation.
Finance: It is the department which looks at the management of the money in the organisation and also looks at allocating the budget to the different department to
work on.
Production: It is the department in the Travelodge which looks at manufacturing the product for the organisation, Department used to convert the raw material into the
finished product which after service by the hotel. Production house of the Travel and lodge used to develop and change the product of another company in the name of
Travel and lodge.
Operational department
Operational department are the one department which used to manage all the functional of the functional department and used to make a link between all the
department in the organisation. They used to do this all by the help of proper planning, controlling and organising of the functional department work. In the Travelodge
operation department used to manage all the resources of the organisation and makes strategy in the organisation which need to be followed by all the department.
P3) Contribution of Hospitality Industry.
Hospitality Industry in UK plays an important role in contributing to the development of
the economy at different levels that is local, national and international level. The combined
turnover of the companies that are involved in Hospitality sector is £92 billion in year 2017. It
means that the industry has contributed to the Gross Domestic Product of the country. And it is
approximately £100 billion in year 2018. According to British Hospitality Association Hospitality
Industry has made significant contribution at local and national level also because it has provided
direct employment opportunity to more than 3.2 million people of UK. And it has provided
indirect employment opportunity to 2.8 million people. At international level, hospitality industry
is contributing to the economic development of UK by attracting large number of visitors from
different countries in UK that has help to increase the level of foreign currency in the country. The
industry has contributed Gross Value Added of £72 billion to the economy of UK.
