Introduction
The hotel and tourism sector are the major tow sector that have took the changes to a very
large scale. It is true that all these aspects put a great impact on the business operation for
both the companies (Smith, 2014). Due to various changes, these two sectors are negatively
impact that is becoming hard to remove. Although, there are various challenges these sectors
is facing but the major issues are being described in the report. In the current scenario, safety
issue, currency fluctuations and technological advancement is highlighted. It becomes
necessary to remove these issues before the tourist loss interest in these sectors. These
challenges are necessary to remove in both underdeveloped as well as under developed nation
for their growth.
Three contemporary issue faced by hotel and tourism industry
1. Security and safety issue- security has become the one of the major challenge
for the tourism industry. It is true that the level of tourism is increasing regularly. Therefore,
improvement in security measures is the major challenge for the local government in
hospitality industry. Due to natural disasters, terrorist, epidemics, and local wars, security has
decreased. The tourism and hotel business could not able to reduce the negative influences of
these events. Every year, number of tourists increases too quickly. In recent time, due to high
disposable income of people, they spend on the travel and tourism. However, the terrorism
and social security has putted the impact on development and growth in the domestic and
international tourism (Bac, Bugnar and Mester, 2015). In tourism and hotel industry, various
security and protection problems create an unfavourable environment for the people. Due to
this, every people try to escape from the unpleasant and unfriendly environment.
Besides security, safety is also becoming the major challenge for the tourism industry. As
most of the population in today’s time is ageing. Although the generation is aging but the
tourism industry is seeing the aging people practising the physical activities from skiing to
motorcycling. Due to this, officials of tourism are facing all kind of safety issues. In this way,
safety concerns and security is the most significant issue that are being faced by hospitality
industry in today’s time (Beirman, 2016).
2. Technological advancement and climate changes - It is the second issue
that changed the aspect of tourism and hotel industry at large scale. By taking the several
measures, this industry can improve their quality of their service. For example- tourism and

hotel have provided the booking reservation services that are possible due to the increase in
technological advancement. Network issues took the great place in these industries as they
mostly present in the hilly areas where network issues are at glance (Sharpley and Telfer,
2014).
With the extensive growth in the industrialization, tourism and travelling have improved
tremendously. Due to the constant changes in the climatic condition of the globe, tourism
endpoints also changed in order to meet the projected standards. Due to this, it has forced the
tourism investor to encounter the needs of the tourist. Variations in climate are one of the
major factors in the decision-making. Change in climate is not the incident of future but it has
become the incident of today’s business environment. Many tourists are showing their
unwillingness to visit the places due to adverse conditions of environment. Therefore, it the
big issue for the developing nation to attract the tourist due to climatic issue (Baker, 2014).
There is several favourable impact of the global warming that sometimes attracts the tourist
such as growth of coastal and rural tourism.
3. Fluctuations in currency and increment in environment awareness-
When any tourism move to another country for the purpose of tourism, they are required to
change the current to that country only. They are required to change the currency so that they
can use it in cafeterias and guesthouses. When the currency of US rises as compare to the
other country’s currency, they will be capable to enjoy by moving to another nation for the
tourism purpose. For example- the tourism industry of Australia has been challenging due to
the increasing worth of Australian dollar. Therefore, the possible cause is the reduction in
tourism export (Sharpley and Telfer, 2015). The second example is that the tourist from
France is required to pay the 30% more to avail the service when two currencies involved
Pounds and Euro.
Environment awareness is also one of the main elements that force to make the necessary
changes in travel and tourism sector. It has a great level of importance within the deterrence
of nature from the harm. Pollution is also increasing largely due to increment in travel and
tourism industry (Hoogendoorn and Fitchett, 2018). In this case, it is the responsibility of
each party to contribute for the protection and safety of environmental resources. Due to the
increasing level of tourism, wastage is also increasing and which in turn affecting the health
of people. It is creating issue for the people who are living nearby the tourism area. This issue
has increased to that level where proper action is required for the proper dumping of waste.

Environment issue is the major issue prevailing in the tourism sector of Thailand (Parnwell,
2018).
Conclusion
In the limelight of above discussion, it can be concluded that security and safety is the major
aspect for which tourism are concerned. Both the issues are negatively affecting the tourism
sector. Besides this, currency fluctuations and climate changes is also the major issue. These
issues are making the environment unfriendly for the customers. The global tourism has
affected too much due the reason that customers do not want to travel in the unfriendly and
unpleasant places. It becomes essential for the local government as well as tourism sector to
look after these issues. These issues are putting the major threat for the future and a heavy
decline in the various countries economy.
