Great Barrier Reef is one of the most well known and breath taking marvelous tourism
destinations in Australia. It is because of this reason that this place attracts a huge number of
tourists on a day to day basis. This is a spot of extensive adventure and also underwater sports.
Tourist usually likes to prefer this spot in order to see their time in the midst of nature and also
experiment the long coastal ridge. Great Barrier Reef will be offering a large and also wide
variety of island and beautiful rain forest belts to the people who are coming from the local and
also from the Global region (greatbarrierreef.org. 2020). It is because of this stunning view of
the place hat people are able to find a great retread and also refreshment from their busy life in
this place filled with greenery (Weber et al. 2017). Whitsundays is one of the major tourist
attractions of that place and the tourists can enjoy a very smooth and also comfortable journey

factory waste discharges located nearby and many other such aspects. Apart from this there are
other issues like changing needs and demands of the tourist. All these contemporary issues in
hotel and tourism sector are also affecting the Great Barrier Reef. The main purpose of the
project is to make sure that there is a proper analysis of these issues and also to know the

2. Discussion
One new or emerging tourist market
As per the opinion of Beck, Rainoldi and Egger (2019), there are many new segments of tourist
that are trying to get the new and innovative experiences associated with the new places. There
are different sectors that are emerging or are coming up in the tourism sector the recent past.
Bostan et al(2016) have dated that there are many new kinds of segments like the Adrenalin
Seekers, Low Functioners, Inter-Generational Travelers, Gay Travelers and also many other such
tourist market segment. However in order to make sure that the tourism destination is working
well they have to like it to any one of these segments. This will enable them to take up the right
and the suitable strategies though which they can actually increase the inflow of the tourist in
their place.
Great Barrier Reef is closely linked with the Adrenalin Seekers. This group of tourist are suitable
for the chosen tourism sector because this particular represents the new learners who are carry
keen in learning many new and innovative things. As the very name suggest the tourist who are
falling in this market segment are the ones who are always trying to get some unusual,
breathtaking and also exotic in nature. They are always looking for some kinds of sports
activities that will be helping them to get a memorable experience and these sorts will be able to
send a chill down their spine and will be giving them a kind of adrenaline rush.
As stated by Curnock et al (2019), Adventure and excitement are the suitable words that are
defining this particular class of tourist. These tourists are the young and the most energetic

tourists who are actually looking for some or the other kinds of excitements in the whole trip or
the journey that they are undertaking. Great Barrier Reef is actually helping them for the same as
they will be able to get a wide range of activities like rafting, cruise journeys, witnessing the
breathe taking underwater views of the marine life and also may other such activities. It is for
this reason that the place is suitable for the Adrenalin Seekers segment of tourists.
Transport development
Transportation is one of the most important aspects that influence the tourism sector. It is
because of this reason that the transportation system must be taken care of properly. This is
because in the current scenario the tourists are actually looking for some easily affordable and
also usable transportation system. This will enable them to make sure that they will be able to
reach to their desired destination in a very easy and also fast manner. In order to make sure that
tourist are able to reach to their desired destination in a very fast way technology is playing a
very important role. This is because technological advancements have been very useful in order
to bridge the gap between the tourists on one hand and the tourist destination on the other. It is
because of this reason that technologies are being introduced in the different transportation
systems like railways, roadways and also many other such aspects
Railway industry adapts modern technologies
As per the opinion of Coenders, Ferrer-Rosell and Martínez-Garcia (2016) in the earlier times
railways were not able to focus much on the use of a common infrastructure as well as
continuous communication. It is because of this reason that many of the travelers from the
different parts of the country are now being able to some into the great Barrier Reef and are also

being able to enjoy the bay and also the different other activities that they can undertake. For an
instance in the previous times the passengers travelling by trains were not able to think of the
additional services like wifi that allowed the functioning internet facility on the rain was totally
not possible. However in the modern times it has been made possible that all passengers are able
to enjoy a free flowing internet system and thus they will also be able to get a large amount of
information about the place that is about Great Barrier Reef (Nikitina and Akimova 2017). This
will help the tourists to make sure that they are gaining a good first hand information about the
names of the places that they will visit and also they will be able to know about the different
kinds of activities that they can take part after reaching that place (Yung and Khoo-Lattimore
2019).
It is also the same in case of flights. People who are travelling in the flights will be able to get the
facility of using the maps and the navigation via the smooth wifi and the internet systems. This
will enable the passengers to know that they are being able to gain some good information about
the place that they are about to visit.
Current trends in accommodation

Tourists also like to taste the local flavors of the place and make sure that tether is no damage
being caused to the natural flora and fauna of the place. Great Barrier Reef is trying hard to
maintain a proper sustainable tourism (Gössling 2018.). The Eco-Friendly Lodge On The
Great Barrier Reef at Orpheus Island is the nest eco friendly tourist accommodation place
where people can stay at peace and also enjoy the get a sustainable accommodation close to
nature and also experience some educational lessons as well.
The food-focused guest experience
This is one of the most popular guest experiences that is emerging in the hotel and the hospitality
sector. This is because guests want to taste the fresh, exotic flavors of the places they are visiting.
It is because of this reason that the hotels and guests are trying their best to make sure that they
can serve their guests with the best, organic and natural flavors of the food. at Orpheus Island.
The Eco-Friendly Lodge On The Great Barrier Reef, tries their level best to provide the
authentic, fresh natural and the organic food to all their gussets so that they guests ate able to
taste something really nice and also something that has the taste from the local gardens and the
farmlands (Yung and Khoo-Lattimore 2019). This enables the food lovers or the food centric
customers to know that the tourist spot is trying their level best to understand the needs and the
demands of their customers and also to satisfy the same.

environment clean. Sedimentation and accumulation of waste water is becoming one of
the major threats that must be properly taken care of by the tourism destination managers.
They have to arrange for the daily regular cleaning sessions so that they are able to keep
the place clean. Apart from this the customer education campaigns must also be set up s
that the tourists are able to understand their roles in keeping the place clean and are able
to maintain the cleanliness of the place.
Coastal development is also one of the major aspects. A large land area is used by for the
construction of hotels, buildings, mining, agricultural and other such activities. It is
because of this reason that the pressure on land is increasing and this is damaging the
natural habitat of the flora and fauna. This must be stopped. The tourism destination
managers have to make sure that they are developing many conservation projects for the
protection of the land.
Social media influence
Social media is playing major roles in marketing the tourism destination. This is because of the
fact that tourists all over the world are being able to know about the place via the social media
platforms like facebook and the twitter. This is because the gusset who are visiting great Barrier
reef are putting up interesting stories and pictures in their social media profiles to share their
experience to the worlds. In this era of modern technological developments and advancement the
social media sites are actually playing a major role that is making the people know about the

beauty and the essence of the place. Great Barrier Reef website is also one of the major internet
sites that is being visited by customers in order to gather sufficient information about the place.
Enhanced customer service is also one of the major influences that have been brought by the
social media sites. Customers have several queries that they can post in their social media
accounts or their profiles. They are able to make sure that their posts are being read by the right
people and that their queries will also get answered. When Twitter users contact a brand, more
than half expect a response. If they are reaching out with a complaint, that number rises to almost
75%. Customer care executives of the different hotels at Great Barrier Reef are also able to
connect with the concerned tourists and are thus able to answer all the queries by responding to
the posts or by answering their calls at the right point of time (Losada et al, 2017).
Visitor experience development
Virtual reality
This is one of the most modern and useful technologies that is bringing a great transition in the
cotemporary hospitality and tourism sector. This helps in making the rooms and the galleries
look life like. This technology enables in giving a very new and thrilling feel to the entire tourist
who come to the place. A good example is Alpine Express’ VR by Mack at Europa Park just
before IAAPA 2015, it seems like parks around the world are clamoring to invest in this new
technology, including Alton Towers who recently announced their Air re-vamp with space-
themed VR Galactica (Vigolo 2017). Just like this place Great Barrier Reef is also adopting this
method. Australian nonprofit New Horizon and in partnership with BBC, Google, Netflix and
Twitter have produced a digital experience that makes the famous reef accessible from the couch
of the guests. This is one of the best memorable experiences that the tourists in Great Barrier

Reef will love and will also cherish it throughout. Jung, and tom Dieck (2018) has argued that as
this technology is still in its stage of infancy, there is still room for lot of developments. There
can be some faults in the images and also they can be disliked by tourists (Gössling 2018).
Customized Experiences
Customers are looking for something unique to make their work unforgettable. For an instance
the themed hotels have become one of the major demands among customers. Tourists often ask
for some themed rooms in the hotels or the cruises for their stay. Great Barrier Reef tries to
provide the similar experience at the cruise and other places. The Cruise services being offered at
the Great Barrier Reef are often themes as per the demand of the customers so that the customers
are able to enjoy a very nice, pleasant and also a very memorable stay at the place.
3. Conclusion
Therefore it can be concluded from the repot that Great Barrier Reef is one of the major tourist
destinations of Australia that is trying to follow all the modern rules and regulations in order to
satisfy the needs and demands of the tourists. This is because of the fact that the country is able
to attract a large number of tourists from both the local and also the International geographical
locations.
In the recent times, technological advancements have been able to play major role in developing
the tourist destinations in order to satisfy the changing needs and demands of the customers. A
good example is the usage of wifi and free internet access in the transportation systems and also

in the hotels. This is very useful because it helps in making the customers entertained and also
they are able to navigate the different websites that will be giving them a large amount of
information about the different spots that they would be visiting. The hotels have also been
largely adopting the modern technological advancements like the AI, this will make the work of
the hospitality sectors much easier as they will be able to serve their customers in a very fast and
also error free manner. However the Government of Australia has to undertake much
collaboration with the local bodies and the local people so that they are able to make sure that the
place is clean. Local people will be benefitted as they will get a source of employment and also
they will be able to make sure that they are helping the tourists to understand the essence of the
place and also they are able to keep the place clean. Local factory outlets will also have to join
hands and make sure that they are helping in keeping the place neat and tidy rather than
discharging off their sewage into the drainage systems without proper treatment.
Government of Australia and all other governing bodies are trying their level best to ensure that
sufficient efforts are being taken to identify these issues and to solve them immediately without
causing any kinds of delays.
