INTRODUCTION
Employability skills are necessary for an individual in order to get success at workplace
and professional development of workforce helps in developing their skills so as to enable them
to perform their work in more effective manner (Derr and DeLong, 2018). The chosen
organisation for this report is Harrods which is a departmental store located in London, England.
The company is founded by Charles Henry Harrod in year 1849 and offers clothings, toys,
housewares, electronics etc. to customers. This report is based on an individual portfolio which
includes key learning experiences that i gain during my time at university and the significance of
learning in my development. Apart from this, a continuous professional development plan is
prepare which includes information about what i want to achieve the next. At last, a reflection
on continuous professional development portfolio is included in this project.
Aims and objectives of portfolio
Continuous Professional Development Portfolio is refers as a tool that supports an
individual to meet diverse requirements related to CPD (Nisula and Pekkola, 2018). Its main aim
is to improve current skills in order to get success in future. This plan helps in setting realistic
goals in order to bring closer to long term career aspirations. The main aim of developing
continuous development plan is to improve my current skills and knowledge base so that it will
provides me benefits in future and enables me to fulfill my career aspirations.
MAIN BODY
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is characterized as the procedure of
tracking and documenting experience, knowledge and skills that an individual or a person
acquire both formally and informally as they work, beyond any training. It is important as it
ensures that an individual is continue to be competent in one's profession. CPD is a continuous
process that lasts throughout the career of a professional. This process helps in maintaining and
enhancing skills and knowledge of an individual that are require to deliver professional service.
It ensures updated knowledge as individuals who are undergoing continuous professional
development programme are more aware regarding directions and changing trends. As a human
resource trainee in Harrods, continuous professional development enables me in improving my
weak areas so that my productivity and performance at workplace can be enhanced. When I was
studied in university, my time management and communication skills are very weak. Due to

communication skills, my confidence level was very low and I was unable to present myself
effectively in a front of others and gave presentation. But, as I entered into second semester, I my
confidence level was improved and I started to communicate effectively with others. My
learning was increased steadily that helps in may career development. I learned a lot of things
during my university time. I have learned how to communicate with others, how to manage and
finish work on time. All this helps in developing my skills and abilities as well. For developing
my skills and knowledge base, I prepare my own continuous professional development plan.
