INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION
Answer:
Interpersonal communication refers to the communication between two or persons.
Valkenburg and Walther (2017) mention that, interpersonal communication consists of different
types of communication like written, verbal and gestural communication. Interpersonal
communication can take place between the internal stakeholders of business organisations
namely, the members of the board of management and the employees across designations as well
as departments. It can also take place between the companies and their external stakeholders
including customers, suppliers, investors and even competitors. The methods of interpersonal
communication within the firms concerned are generally meeting, notices, conferences including
video conferences and emails. The forms of interpersonal communication used to communicate
with external stakeholders can be meetings, emails, press conferences, social media, press
releases and even advertisements (Flanagin 2017). The first two methods are more prevalent
while communicating with investors and suppliers. The other methods are more used to
communicate with customers to a large extent. It transpires from this explanation that
interpersonal communication consists of two way communication between the business
organisations and their stakeholders. It also transpires that feedback holds great significance in
the process of interpersonal communication. Nešić and Lalić (2017) mention that, feedback has
an immense impact on the morale and performances of employees. The management bodies of
the companies communicate messages like targets and policies to the employees down the
hierarchy right from the departmental heads to the employees of the lowest rung. The employees
in return communicate their feedbacks and ideas to the management which the latter expected to
incorporate in the decisions to the feasible extent. This two way communication creates strong
positive impacts upon the subordinate employees. They perceive a sense of belonging to the
company and achieve higher levels of performances. They cooperate more with the management
in implementation of the strategies. Thus, the benefits of interpersonal communication in
workplaces which transpires from the discussion are better employee performances and more
effective implementation of business strategies, thus contributing to higher organizational
performances.
