Abstract
This report undertakes the analysis as well as evaluation of 30 job advertisements
extracted from four job sites which are SEEK Limited, Jora Australia, Indeed and
Linkedin. This report also discusses about the main personal attributes of the
corporate attributes demanded by the job advisertisment. The roles and
responsibilities of the corporate accountants have been discussed in this report. This
report also critically discusses about the skills, experience and attributes needed to
become a corporate accountant.

Introduction
Corporate accounting is considered as a special portion of accounting that is
concerned about the company accounting, final accounts preparation along with
cash flow statement and analysis as well as interpretation of financial results of the
companies (Atanasov and Black 2016). Corporate accountants are needed to
conduct different operations of corporate accounting within the organizations.
Corporate accountants are specialized in business accounting while responsible to
maintain the financial records of the companies in order to ensure compliance with
laws, regulations and organizational policies. They also provide internal assistance in
making business decisions (Bhasin 2013). The main objective of this report is to
discuss about the required qualifications and experience demanded by the
employers from the corporate accountants. In order to achieve this objective, this
report undertakes the analysis of 30 job advertisements on the positions of
‘corporate accountants’, corporate and management accountant’, ‘senior financial
accountants’ and others.

It can be seen from the above discussion that this report involves in the
collection of job advertisements from different sources. In order to achieve the
objective of this report, a total of 30 job advertisements have been collected. Among
these 30 job advertisements, 10 job advertisements have been collected from SEEK
Limited; 8 job advertisements have been collected from Jora Australia; 6 job
advertisements have been collected from Indeed; and the rest six job advertisements
have been collected from Linkedin.

It can be seen from the above table that the requirement for corporate
accountants is the most in the selected job advertisements. In addition, the demand
of Senior Financial Accountants is also high in the selected advertisements.
Required Personal Attributes
Followings are the required personal attributes from a corporate accountant
that have been mentioned in the collected jib advertisements:
Strong Analytical Skills – This ability makes the corporate accountants able in
collecting and analysing information, solving problems and making decisions.
Good Communication Skills – A corporate accountant needs to be able to
communicate properly and effectively with other employees, members and senior
management about different accounting issues (Klibi and Oussii 2013).
Good Time Management – This is the process to plan as well as exercise
conscious control of time spent on specific activities.
Ability to Maintain Positive Relationship – A corporate accountant needs to be
able in developing trust with its colleagues in order to maintain a positive and strong
relationship at the workplace (Fouché 2013).
Excellent Written and Spoken English – A corporate accountant must be able in
writing different accounting reports in good English while communicating the same to
the audiences.

corporate accountant needs to have sufficient knowledge on how to operate a
computer for the purpose of accounting (Schroeder, Clark and Cathey 2019).
Key Roles, Tasks and Responsibilities of a Corporate Accountant
Followings are the key roles, tasks and responsibilities of a corporate
accountant that have been listed in the chosen advertisements:
 One major role of a corporate accountant is to provide assistance with the
development of budgets as well as forecasts for business units.
 A corporate accountant is responsible for providing month and results
analysis against budgets as well as forecast for businesses areas.
 A corporate accountant’s role includes in helping with the Treasury duties as
well as assistance in year-end audit (Sands et al. 2015).
 A corporate accountant is responsible for the preparation of monthly
Corporate Board reports.

It can be seen from the selected job advertisements that a candidate needs to
be a CA or CPA qualified with an exceptional academic transcript and proven
prowess to streamline the accounting processes and compliance. In some of the
selected advertisements, the requirement of a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience
in accounting experience in a commercial environment is required. After that, a
candidate is required to be qualified in different accounting packages like MYOB,
SAGE, ERP and others (Mohd Ghazali and Ismail 2013). Certain job advertisements
require tertiary education in a relevant degree like finance, accounting, business or
commerce. To come organizations, candidates with partially completed CA or CPA is
also eligible to be a corporate accountant. Some requires experience in TM1 and
Oracle. Certain organizations require the candidates to have an excellent knowledge
and understanding in AIFRS. Some organizations require the undergraduate
degrees. Therefore, it can be seen from the above discussion that a minimum of CA
or CPA qualified is required for candidate to be a corporate accountant along with
other qualifications and experiences (Kountur and Huo 2013).
Relation of Key Roles, Tasks and Responsibilities with Corporate Accounting
Every company is required to perform certain accounting operations for the
purpose of identifying the financial performance and position of the business. This is
known as bookkeeping accounting that involves in the collection, analysis,
classification, verification, interpretation and presentation of financial information.
There are different types of bookkeeping and Corporate Accounting is considered as
one of them. Corporate accounting deals with processes like the preparation of cash
flows statements, balance sheet, financial records and others (Caskey and Laux
2016). Corporate accounting can be utilized for handling unique corporate business
processes like absorption, amalgamation and consolidated documents creation. It
needs to be mentioned that the main topic converged are the formation of
companies, distribution of profit, capital reconstruction, liquidation and preparation of
consolidated accounts for a group of entities required under stock exchange
regulations and accounting standards. It can be seen from the above discussion that
a corporate accountant has certain key roles and tasks or responsibilities; and these
aspects have certain connection with the covered topics of corporate accounting (El-
Firjani, Menacere and Pegum 2014).
It needs to be mentioned that the preparation of the consolidated accounts of
a company requires the corporate accountants to have excellent knowledge as well
as understanding about different components of financial statements such as cash
flow, profit or loss, balance sheet and others. This also demands the presence of
knowledge or understanding on the aspect like accounts receivable, budgeting,

forecasting and others. This has relation with the required roles and responsibilities
or tasks of a corporate accountant (El-Firjani, Menacere and Pegum 2014). For
example, the role of a corporate accountant includes provide assistance in the
preparation of the financial statements of a company; and the same aspect has been
covered under the topic of the preparation of consolidated accounts of a group of
entities. Apart from this, other key roles and responsibilities of a corporate
accountant is also related to other topic covered like company formation, profit
distribution and others. For example, the covered topics discuss about different
aspects that are required for collecting, maintaining, processing and analysing the
accounting information. In the selected job advertisements, the roles of a corporate
accountant include the preparation as well as processing of journals and
reconciliations, preparation of annual budgets and others. Therefore, on the basis of
the above analysis, it can be said that the tasks and responsibilities are related to the
topics covered (Caskey and Laux 2016).
Additional Topics, Attributes or Learning Outcomes Missing
It can be seen from the selected job advertisements that there are certain
additional topics, attributes or learning outcomes that are missing from the unit of
corporate accounting. In majority number of the job advertisements, the
responsibility of a corporate accountant includes ad hoc analysis as well as
asisiatece in the ad hoc special projects. Ad hoc tasks refer to the work items
created by the business users extemporaneously which were not initially part of the
modelled process flow. However, this topic is missing in the current unit of corporate
accounting. In most of the job advertisements, it is mentioned that it is the
responsibility of a corporate accountant to identify as well as implement process
improvement in the overall accounting system that includes the identification of the
opportunities for streamlining as well as automate the accounting processes and
system in order to improve the level of financial control. This particular aspect has
not been covered in this unit of corporate accounting. Most of the advertisements
have mentioned that it is the responsibility of a corporate accountant to handle the
taxation related issues like monthly BAS return, calculation of PAYS instalment, FBT
and assistance in annual income tax. However, this learning outcome is missing in
the present unit of corporate accounting. As per some of the job advertisements, it is
the role of a corporate accountant to provide assistance in the Treasury duties and
along with the assistance in year-end audit. However, the present units of corporate
accounting have not considered this particular learning outcome. The inclusion of
these aspects would make this unit of corporate accounting more complete (Liu et
al. 2017).
Required Skills, Experience and Attributes to become a Corporate Accountant
and Critical Examination of Topics Learned in Corporate Accounting
It is needed for a candidate to have certain skills, experience and attributes in
order to become a corporate accountant. In case of personal attribute, a candidate
must have a strong analytical ability to collect and analyse the accounting
information for the purpose of effective decision making. They must be able to
manage time effectively while leaving a positive influence on the other members of
the team or the company. It is needed for a candidate to have expertise in different
accounting software and advanced excel in order to become a successful corporate
accountant. Most importantly, the candidate must have excellent communication
skills. Apart from these personal attributes, a candidate must have certain skills as

well as experience to become a corporate accountant. In case of experience, it is
desirable that the candidate has a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in the
same accounting industry in order to become a corporate accountant. This
experience would make them accustomed with the role of a corporate accountant. In
terms of skills, the candidate must have an intermediate to advanced knowledge of
Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word. Apart from this, expertise as
well as experience in the use of accounting software and packages like ERP, SAGE
and others would make him/her a corporate accountant. Most importantly, the
person needs to have excellent accounting knowledge on the financial statements,
financial accounting and others for adopting the role of a corporate accountant (Uyar
2016).
It is needed to mention the fact that the topics learned in the unit of corporate
governance have been majorly helpful in developing the skills, experience and
attributes for becoming a corporate accountant. The components or elements of
these topics have made it aware that which are the skillsets and attributes that a
candidate needs to develop for becoming a corporate accountant. For example, the
topic of the preparation of consolidated accounts has shown that it is required to
have excellent knowledge in accounting and in the accounting packages to carry out
the consolidation of accounts. In addition, studying these concepts of corporate
accounting has made a candidate aware of the fact that what the areas he/she are
lagging behind are so that they can work on them in order to develop them. In
addition, the topics in the corporate accounting have been majorly helpful in
identifying the additional skills and attributes require to be developed in order to be a
corporate accountant (Uyar 2016).
Conclusion
The above discussion discusses about the personal attributes, skills,
experience and knowledge required in order to become a corporate accountant. It
can be seen from the above discussion that majority portion of the job requirements
for the post of corporate accountant can be seen in the consultation and recruitment
sector where the majority portion of the requirement is corporate accountant. As per
the above discussion, the main personal attributed required to become a corporate
accountant are time management, effective communication skills, knowledge in
accounting packages and others. The above discussion also states that the main
roles of corporate accountant include assisting in the preparation of financial
statements, helping in taxation services, identification of the areas that need
improvements and others. A candidate needs to be have a combination of these
skills, attributes and experience in order to be a corporate accountant.
