Introduction
The report based on the article Corporate Entrepreneurship and Service Firms'
Performance in Nigeria’ which was published in May 2019 by research gate. RThe effect of
corporate entrepreneurship (CE) as measured by innovation, risk-taking, proactiveness, strategic
renewal, and corporate venturing on service firm non-financial performance as measured by
market share, employee satisfaction, efficiency, productivity, and workforce development is the
objective of this article. According to the article, the main issue is firms focus to enhance their
financial and non-financial performance to explore new opportunities in the market.
Content
For this journal, scholars have used the CE model of Goosen, Coning, and Smit and
Schumpeter's theory of innovation. The connection between the CE model and innovation theory
with the problem is CE has a significant influence on firms’ financial performance and that
innovativeness has the strongest effect on firms’ financial performance in Nigeria. The findings
from this journal showing innovation, proactiveness, risk-taking, and corporate venturing have a
huge influence on the non-financial success of service companies in Nigeria, while strategic
renewal does not have a significant impact.
Discussions
There a few things that had been done by companies in Nigeria in order to achieve very
high-quality organizational performances. One of the concepts that had been applied by the
Nigerian company is risk-taking. Risk-taking has affected the non-financial performances of the
services firm in Nigeria. This non-financial performance can be measured through market share,
efficiency, productivity, workforce development, employee satisfaction, and service quality of the
company and organization. Firstly, competitive risk. It is defined as the chance due to the
competitive force that would likely to have impacted the revenue or margin of a company or an
organization. Secondly, is credibility risk. It is referred to as the risk a company or an organization
had to face when they trying out to market their new product. Thirdly, is technology risk.
Technology risk happened when the company has to face technology failures. Lastly, is the most
obvious is financial risk. Financial risk defined as the chances of a company or an organization to
lose money or when there is too much cash flow from the company.
This concept on how to make organizational performances become better also can be
applied and are related to Malaysian corporate entity. Since risk-taking is an entrepreneurial

behaviour and it can be easily applied to the Malaysian company. In fact, this concept has already
been applied in Malaysia. For example, Prime works Studios and WAU Animation is the developer
of a well-known animation series Ejen Ali: The Movie. The company took a risk by marketing this
animation to another country and it became a hit movie and grossed over RM30.8 million ticket
sales in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Singapore. Risk-taking can be applied in Malaysian
corporate by identifying the risk. The corporate should know whether it can manage to control the
risk and must observe the risk that it took proactively. In addition, by making action steps, the
corporate should know how to control the risk that had been taken by knowing different ways on
how to overcome the unexpected problem that might arise by taking the risk. Through this, it can
potentially make sure the corporate can still function. Then is the employee responsibilities. By
giving the employee responsibilities on how to identifying, managing, and mitigating risk can
ensure the longevity of a company. Finally is by document the risk. Documenting the risk on how
to deal with any types of risk and the effectiveness of the plan when those risks occurred can
make everything else easier since they did not have to think the idea again when the same
problem happened again.
Furthermore, a few things had been done by companies in Nigeria to achieve a very high-
quality organizational performance. One of the concepts that had been applied by Nigerian
companies is strategic renewal. Strategic renewal refers to situations in which the content and
process of a strategy are closely related, involving large-scale changes including those related to
competition, enterprise resources and capabilities, organizational structure, and cognition, as well
as routines and processes for decision-making and implementation. This renewal can be made
in corporate competition strategies, which can encourage companies to look for opportunities for
better performance. It is all about responding rapidly to change, adjusting their business model to
fit the market, and reconstructing it in a way that adds value for their customers.
Strategic renewal can be related to the Malaysian corporate entity that exists in Malaysia
today because the strategic renewal practiced by Nigerian country can also be related. Among
the strategic renewal that can be related is the achievement of Long-term objectives, because it
must determine the vision, mission, and objectives of the company can ensure the achievement
of the organization in line with the Long-term objectives. In addition, organizational design plays
an important role in an organization, so that it is easy to regulate and achieve the purpose of the
entity. Finally, the decision-making and implementation process should be done by identifying
and choosing alternatives and the actions taken should be wise by using the existing information

materials to make decisions. Organization performance becomes better with strategic renewal
and can be applied in Malaysia corporate entity. Blockbuster versus Netflix as an example, while
the former assumed that threats were a normal part of the competition and stuck to the DVD rental
process, the latter could see how market conditions were changing rapidly, so it shifted from rental
to video streaming. The journal written by the scholars is written precisely and packed with theory
and model. Somehow, the study has several limitations that can be improved for further study.
Further study can be done with several improving methods of collecting information and
discussion. It is suggestable for future researchers to get a fixed amount of respondents in
respective sub-sectors.

Somehow, the study has several limitations that can be improved for further study. Further study
can be done with several improving methods of collecting information and discussion. It is
suggestable for future researchers to get a fixed amount of respondents in respective sub-sectors.
The fixed amount of respondents in the respective sectors may give different results and more
discussion on factors. The results achieved may have a better argument or more information
behind the feedback from respondents regarding the subject element. A column can be prepared
for respondents in other to find out 46% in order to find their agreement from the 5 corporate
entrepreneurship elements for the survey form. The hypothesis component of the research only
mentions in the literature review and briefly manages to discuss the results. In the future, the
result and hypothesis may discuss with the theory facts. The research discussed mainly on
financial performance measured element for the results. Future research can be discussed with
the theory that focuses on the non-financial theory instead of financial theory for this topic. The
improving method may eventually help future researchers to receive better accuracy feedback
and improving arguments on factors for results in the discussion.

Conclusion
As a result of conducting this journal review, I have come out with the conclusion that risk-
taking relates to the Malaysian corporate entity. There are four types of risk in a corporate entity
which was a competitive risk, credibility risk, technology risk, and financial risks. The corporate
company has to face a competitive force from other corporate companies. The companies also
face risk in marketing the new product which is credibility risk. Since most of the corporate
companies depend on the machine for their work there were happened the technology risks which
is because of some technical failures. Then the cash flow and profit or loss of money will give risk
to the company. Then strategic renewal also has related Malaysian corporate entity. Renewal of
strategy can make the organization work better than before the renewal of the strategy. This is
because the strategy used by a company will be outdated. So the company needs to renew the
strategy to have the biggest impact on its sales, market development, product development, and
profit of the company.
