Running head: CORPORATE GOVERNANCE & ETHICS
1. What is meant by the term, "B Corp"? Explain.
Certified B corporations are the types of businesses that meet the highest standards in operations,
as well as creating an extravagant effect on social situations, creating sustainability of the company.
This type of organization creates their legacy by profit generation as well as proving their
significance in maintaining social balance. Nevertheless, B corps organizations are the ones that
create a balance between profit and social purpose. The ever-changing demands of the customers and
increased globalization have compelled companies to develop a more sustainable business; by the
inclusion of B Corps, this can be successful, as it helps in making a cultural shift, deviating the
operations of the companies from the traditional form by decreasing inequality, ethical working,
gender balance, and collaboration. For example, Emmanuel Faber is the one leader who is making
drastic changes by creating a cultural shift in his company by implementing gender balance providing
equal power and facilities to men and women. He has encouraged other entrepreneurs to be certified
by with “B Corp”, which meets the requirements of including sustainability, translucency and legal
responsibility.
2. What does Halla mean by the term, "hubris syndrome"? Explain.
“Hubris Syndrome” is referring to the exercising of power by a person, and the power sustains as
long as the person exercises control. A mentally robust and determined person can only acquire this
syndrome, and according to “Halla Tomasdottir”, the people having “Hubris Syndrome”, will be able
to acquire their own power and learn new things without depending on anyone.
3. What is wrong with hierarchical leadership? Explain.
According to “Halla Tomasdottir”, hierarchical leadership is operating a business inculcating an
interactive environment, and there is excellent communication among the employees and the higher
authorities. Therefore, the main problem that is faced by “Hierarchical leadership”, is the lack of
interaction and collaboration among employees and employers. Another major problem that is
pointed by “Halla Tomasdottir” is the gender gap; there are situations where females are given more
facilities like maternity leave, which creates a gender gap. In that case, Emmanuel Faber was the one
to decrease this gap by providing paternity and maternity leave to both his male and female
employees.

4. Do you disagree with anything in the video? Why?
There was nothing to disagree in this video, the concepts that are exemplified by “Halla
Tomasdottir”, have quite a gravity and facts included. Nevertheless, it is mandatory for the organizations
to create its sustainability and prove a part of social environment by contributing to it, rather than just
acquiring profit and competitive advantage.
5. What in particular do you agree with? Why?
In the video, I mostly agree with bringing the gender balance in operating businesses. It
was stated by “Halla Tomasdottir” that men and women both should accept feminism and masculinity to
work cooperatively in the working environment. This must include exchange of thoughts and opinions,
ideas and understanding each other vulnerabilities to cope up in adverse situations. This would affect the
cultural sphere of a working premise in a vast manner, developing the interactivity, also decreasing the
gender gap.
