CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
Theme 1: Understanding of corporate social responsibility
According to Nieminen (2018) the CSR refers to the responsibility that is carried by
company in respect of not earning any profits but to attract customer through some social events
which is organised by the organisation. Through this activity they can also motivate their
employees to achieve targets and behave ethically at work premises. As its is necessary fro
every organisation to conduct the CSR activity so that inventors also take participate in group
activities and also attach with the company working (Corporate Social Responsibility, 2013).
Thus, through conducting CSR it refers to attracting the customer towards the social events
which is organised by the company and also they can participate in such activity which can fulfil
the needs of the company in better perspective.
Hamid and Isa (2017) argued that through organising social events, sometimes the
conflict arises in respect of culture differences. Thus, it is the responsibility of the company to
take care of the employees and customer at the time of conducting any social activity. In such
manner, they had to organises such events which involves the interest of every culture, as
company carries with large number of employees and thus they are engaged with different
culture. In such manner the issuer arises in respect of attracting all the culture towards such
events by bringing such innovation in CSR which sustain their interest towards such events for
longer time period.
De Grosbois (2016) stated that through conducting CSR it results in not only attracting
the employees towards their business but also bring some talent among them. As CSR mainly
represent conducting activity which is beneficial in respect of social, economic and
environmental aspects. Thus, through preferring CSR it often results in recruiting the employees
as employees are attracted if they find such companies which are organising such types of
activity (Font, Garay and Jones, 2016). For e.g. in case of TUI group they are engaged with large
number of employees carrying their business. They also involved in carrying CSR activity
which results in gaining profits as they deal in travel and tourism. Through this aspects they also
gain opportunity in respect of determining the needs and demands of the customer and also plan
the packages accordingly.
Farrington and et.al., (2017) criticised that through conducting CSR it mainly results in
facing huge expenses in respect of training cost or any other activity which is conducted to
Document Page
involves the employees towards the work premises. As mainly company prefers this activity to
trained employees regarding the benefits to work as team. As various activity are to be examined
to employees to maintain their interest towards such activity which results in gaining advantages
and also influences other employees or companies to prefers such activity (Cha, Yi and Bagozzi,
2016). In such perspective, companies had to manage such activity in better way as it bring better
results. Usually it distract the work of employees and they are motivated and trained in wrong
direction which not contained the employees interest at work place.
Alvarado-Herrera and et.al., (2017) suggested that though CSR procedure, it result in
increasing the customer loyalty in work premises and also it increases the sales in company.
Through CSR, companies can directly reach to customer base and also marketing their products.
In this, customer involvement are also there as they share some amount of money in respect of
supporting the company through carrying their activity at large scale. Customer mainly support
such company which deal in any such events which improve the condition of society in any
perspective. On the contradictory to Su, Huang and Huang (2018) it examined that usually
companies prefers the wrong CSR procedure, as they manipulates the customer in respect of
contributing to society and indirectly engages in their own profits margin.
Theme 2: Issues faced by company regarding preferring corporate social responsibility and
sustainability activities
As per Lho Park and Yu (2019) the issue which is examined in respect of adapting the
CSR procedure is that they mainly attract the top talents person towards the jobs, this results in
distracting the interest of employees which are engaged in business. As through this aspects, the
employees which are retain in business for longer period also distract their interest towards
achieving the target in better perspective. Thus, it results in decreasing the productivity in
company and also their is lack of communication at work place which results in distracting the
employees interest (Lyons, 2016). As it is necessary for very company that their employees are
motivated toward the work and for that job security is one of the major aspects through which
they can retain and increase productivity at work place.
Leung and Snell (2017) interviewed that while preferring the CSR for maintaining
sustainability in business, the issue arises in respect of demanding the corporate disclosure which
is examined the company overall working strategy. As it requires the completes updation of the
company working and their project and targets which they achieved in the entire days. Usually

customer demand to disclose the company latest working in dealing in new and innovative
products, this is the major issue which is examined by the company while conducting CSR as if
they not fulfil the customer demand, it results in not fulfilling their needs and also it results in
lack of interest towards the company products (Pearce and et.al., 2018). For e.g. in case of TUI
group, by conducting CSR activity to customer results in demanding the company strategies
regarding bringing new packages or dealing in any new project in airlines. As TUI group mainly
own five airlines of Europe and also for enhancing the employees towards the work places, they
mainly adapt the CSR activity to attract them.
Kasliwal and Agarwal (2019) examined that in respect of conducting the CSR activity,
the major participation is resulting to the government and through their innovative ideas,
guidance and norms, the company duty is to be worked under such norms. Thus, the issue which
is raised through CSR is resulting to shrinking the role and involvement of the government in
such activity. As government is takings strict action in respect of companies not conducting the
CSR in right manner. On the other hand the another issue is examined in respect of enhancing
the employees through increasing their pay scale and post in company. As by conducting CSR,
the expectation of the employees are increased by getting more knowledges and experiences
regarding the particular field. Thus, it results in distracting their interest towards receiving the
nominal pay checks.
Theme 3: Factors relating to overcome the issue raised through corporate social responsibility
and sustainability activities
Ram (2018) interviewed that to overcome from such issue which is faced in respect of
involvement of government and imposing strict norms resulting to be overcome in respect of
encouraging the green concept at work premises. As government usually support such companies
which carry their business through promoting the greenery at work place and also to take care of
the environment (Nguyen and et.al., 2018). Government not impose barriers on any such
company which promote such concept and motivated other company to prefers such procedure to
protect environment from such pollution. Through this aspect, they also attract the customer
towards such services which they are offering and also involves their participation in enhancing
such activity.
Trendafiova, Ziakas and Sparvero (2017) suggested that trust is the major aspects which
is to be developed in respect of involving employees in major decision making. By this
Document Page
procedure, they can interact with employee personally and also trained them as per their skills
and capabilities. CSR mainly results in conducting training to their employees regarding guiding
them according to their interest and field. Thus, to overcome from the issue, this is the major
aspects which is examined through retaining the employees at the work place and also in respect
of business it results in increasing the sustainability to achieve targets for longer term.
According to Lindgreen and et.al., (2017) the issue to be overcome in respect of
celebrating the success if the company by achieving any greater success or celebrating their
anniversary. This aspects is also important in respect of fulfilling trust among the customer. As
through this perspective, customer lo involves in company success and also celebrates their
success through initiating any such activity which sustain the business for longer time period. By
this procedure, they can also motivates employees regarding securing their job in company by
celebrating each and every success with them. As company integrity depends upon the working
criteria of the employees and thus through their hard work and innovative ideas, they achieve
targets within the stipulated time (Nguyen, Long and Nguyen, 2019). Thus, through this aspects
it results in building the strong relationship with their employees which results in sustaining their
interest towards the premises for longer way.
On the other hand Upadhaya and et.al., (2018) they also examined that to overcome from
issue regarding the reducing the culture differences. As company is covered with large number
of employees thus in such perspective it results in moti8vtaing the employees to work as team
and also appreciate all the employees ideas at work place. This results in treating all the
employees equally and also they are considered to be the part of the company. This results in
distracting the mind of the other employees company and also they are focused to bring changes
in their existing polices regarding adapting the process of culture.

CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Methodology: This involves a variety of research tools and techniques that help the
researcher in identification of the relevant data, its collection, analysis and interpretation. There
are a variety of tools that a researcher can use and these have been detailed below:
Research type: Research is the study which is conducted with the sole motive of finding out the
solution of the issue which is faced by the organization, individual or society. Quantitative and
Qualitative are the two type of the research type which can be used by the researcher to conduct
the research. Qualitative research is the research which looks at the non numeric data to give the
solution of the study. This type of the research looks at meaning, concept, definition and
characteristic. Quantitative research is the type of the research which looks at the numeric data to
give the solution of the issue. Researcher has used the Qualitative research to fulfil the aim of
the dissertation that is To determines the issue faced by companies in pertaining to sustainability
strategy in tourism (Ledford and Gast, 2018). The reason behind the same is that it was be
difficult for the scholar to present the solution of the dissertation in the numeric ways.
Research Approach: Research approach is a plan and procedure that consists of the steps of
broad assumptions to detailed method of data collection, analysis and interpretation. It is
therefore, based on the nature of the research problem being addressed.. Their are two type of
research philosophy which is generally used by the researcher namely Inductive Approach and
Deductive Approach. Inductive Approach looks at generating the new theory on the basis of the
information which is gather with the help of the dissertation. Deductive Approach is the
philosophy which looks at testing the already made theory by comparing the same with the result
of the dissertation. Researcher has taken the help of Inductive research Approach To determines
the issue faced by companies in pertaining to sustainability strategy in tourism (Litosseliti.
2018). The biggest reason for choosing Inductive research approach is that it used to provide
crucial support to the type of the research type which has been choose by the scholar i.e.
Qualitative research type.
Research Philosophy: Research philosophy is the belief by which the data about the way in
which data about the phenomenon should be gather and can be used in such a way that it help the
scholar in carrying out the objective of dissertation. Their are two type of research philosophy
which is generally used by the researcher namely Interpretivism and Positivism philosophy.
Interpretivism philosophy used to interpret the human interest into the study for the purpose of

conducting the research whereas the Positivsm philosophy used to look at the scientific quantity
method to conduct the study on the issue which is faced by TUI Group. Researcher is having the
option of using both philosophy as this are the two common type of the philosophy which is
used by the scholar in the field of the study (Quinlan and et.al., 2019). The scholar has taken the
Interpretivisim philosophy to conduct the research as it has help the researcher in understanding
the Human interest as there is a huge involvement of the human in the Study . Another big
reason for the same is that it supports the type of the research type selected by the researcher i.e.
Qualitative research.
Data Collection: Data collection is the process in which the scholar try to collect the data for the
purpose of conducting the research. This process include gathering and measuring information
on variables of interest, in an established systematic fashion that enables one to answer stated
research questions, test hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes. Their are two common type of the
data collection tool which is used in the field of the research i.e. primary data collection tool and
the secondary data collection tool. Primary data collection tool is the data which is collected
from the source itself. Whereas the secondary data are collected other than the source.
Researcher will be collecting the data and the information from both the source. Secondary data
for the dissertation will be collected from the different books and journal related to the topic of
the dissertation (Kumar, 2019). For collecting the primary data the researcher will be conducting
the survey which will be based on the questionnaire which will contain number of the question
mixture of the both the open ended and close ended question as it will help the scholar in getting
the variety of the information from the responded. Survey will be conducted on the 25 employee
of the TUI group.
Sampling: Sampling involves selection of some respondents out of the entire available
population and there are a variety of ways in which these sample respondents can be selected i.e.
probability sampling and non-probability sampling. Probability sampling involves selection of
the respondents on a random basis without any prior selection criteria and non-probability
sampling involves selection of the respondents on the basis of a pre-determined criteria or a
relevant population that will give the desires results by conducting the research. In the current
researcher, researcher has selected non-probabilistic method for selection of the sample
respondents out of all the available ones (Bresler and Stake, 2017). Non-probabilistic method
involves selection of respondents in non-probabilistic manner in a pre-formulated manner. For
Document Page
the present research, researcher has selected 25 employees working currently in TUI group in
order to collect the relevant data and these have been selected in a non-probabilistic manner. This
has helped in eliminating any biasses and all the employees working in TUI group were given a
fair chance of getting selected.
Data Analysis: Data Analysis involves analysing and interpreting the data that has been selected
by the researcher. For qualitative research type, it is usually done in the manner of thematic
analysis where the researcher takes help of various diagrammatic presentations like bar graphs,
pie charts etc. and these make the interpretations quite easier to understand and attractive which
simplifies the process. In quantitative analysis, different analytical tools like SPSS, MS-Excel
etc. are used by the researcher so that analysis and interpretation of quantitative data can be
made. These are usually used to analyse the numerical data and are extremely complex in nature.
In the current research however, the researcher has used qualitative analysis tools and has taken
help of the thematic analysis in order to conduct the research satisfactorily (Flick, 2015).
Thematic analysis has helped the researcher in depicting the data that has been collected in an
attractive manner using different pictures and therefore, interpretation has been done accordingly
in a simplified manner. Various themes have been formulated by the researcher using which
relevant data analysis has been carried out by the researcher and appropriate interpretations have
been made.
Ethical Consideration: Ethical Consideration is an extremely important aspect that is to be
addressed while conducting the research. In the present research, researcher will get a declaration
form filled form the respondents declaring that they have not been forced or coerced by the
researcher to fill the data in a particular manner and further any biasses has not ben incorporated
on behalf of the researcher intentionally (Silverman, 2016). The researcher will also fill a
declaration form in which he will declare that the research conducted by him is his own work
and there has not been any unauthorised work done on his behalf.
Reliability and Validity: Reliability and validity are the major concept of the ethical
consideration of the research methodology as its helps in the proper evaluation about the quality
of research. This is also helped in making the method well, techniques and measurement of the
research ability (Ramirez and et.al., 2015). The term reliability have the measurement ove3r the
consistency of the measurement. On the other hand the validity turns about the accuracy of the
measurement. The validity is turns out to be the indication how sound the research is to be done.
Document Page
More specification is the validity in the data collection means have the proper finding. The
researcher has the single observer about the sources that data which have the no certain guard
against the impact in the observers' objectivity. The validity of the research can be explained to
the certain extent regarding the requirement during the process of generosity of the findings of
research. It is important to have the Understandability of research reliability and the validity
which cannot be totally eliminated in order to have the minimization over the survival of
research as such it can be possible.
