1.1 Scope
Hospitality industry involves many businesses like theme park, hotels, restaurant and
hotels. These industries are inter connected with each other and these all industries gives an
enjoyable experience to their customers. This industry mainly focusses on customers enjoyment,
luxury, experience and pleasure.
1.2 Purpose
Corporate social responsibility is known as the business model and this helps the
company being socially accountable to themselves, public and stakeholders, it impacts in each
form including social, economic, environmental and society. This report is about various case
studies on the different measures that various hotels follows. The Hotels that are used in this
report are Premier Inn, Maldron Hotel Glasgow city, Innside by Melia Newcastle, New Flying
Horse In, The Old Drum and The Attic at Edenmill.
1.3 Background
Sustainability is not only bout natural resources it also involves economic and social
resources. These three are also known a pillar of sustainability. It is important in every
organisation as it improves the quality of lives, ecosystem and preserves the natural resources for
next generations. Sustainability can be achieved in an organisation in the form of reducing the
consumption of natural resources such as energy and water. It can also be done by increasing
recycling or using materials that are recycled. It can also be reduced by using sustainable brands
in order to be reducing carbon footprints and also by supporting in initiative and charity to the

2.1.1 Sustainability
Sustainability is not only bout natural resources it also involves economic and social
resources. These three are also known a pillar of sustainability that includes economic
environment and social factors. It is a term that fulfil present needs without creating
impact over ability of organisation to meet future needs(Importance of corporate social
responsibility,2022). Sustainability is important in Hotel as all the tourism is dependent
on the cultural and natural resources which attracts the customers and by which it
develops and expand the growth of hospitality industry.
2.1.2 CSR
Corporate social responsibility can be described as self regulation model which assist an
organisation to be socially responsible to itself, its stakeholder as well as public. It is
essential for business to be responsible towards members of society as they get
resources from society(Importance of corporate social responsibility,2022). There is
increasing awareness among people which increase demand of products of company
which are socially responsible.
2.2 Importance of sustainability and CSR in hospitality sector.

meeting the needs of own in an organisation as without compromising ability of next generations
and they will fulfil their own needs. It is important in hospitality industry as it saves the money

practices which involves in products, services, maintenance, supplies and logistics. If each hotel

which leads in increasing customer base of an organisation which leads in maximum profit.

hospitality industry. All the tourists no a days cares firstly about sustainability before booking

responsibly response in climate crisis, moral imperative and offers them sustainability initiatives.
Sustainability also conserves the energy in respect with two approaches which are efficiency and
reduction. This helps to use the proper resource at right time and right place without wasting it
saving it for future. It can also be developed as Premier Inn uses green products and technology
and also had installed solar panels for cooling and heating in efficient LED energy lights (About
Premier Inn. 2021). There are three best practices that this hotel follow to remain sustainable
firstly green energy as they had installed solar panels to migrate carbon footprints which also
reduces the cost of energy as by switching it to LED lights in the rooms which had sensors and
save costs according to the climate which save the energy and reduces the overall cost of the
organisation. Second is water conservation this hotel saves that using conservation methods like
pressure adjusting, aerating and by replacing appliances in shower and laundry and they had also
put small sticky notes in the washrooms which reminds the customers and spread awareness
about saving water. Third is waste control in tourist places they are various waste produced by
the customers, so it is needed to be control so this hotel has used the best possible way to sustain
by recycling that waste and utilising it in the form of resources and Premier Inn had also
fertilizes the food waste or distribute them to the needy . Sustainability is the major consideration
and should be in hospitality businesses in order to save water and energy for future.

contributing towards social responsibility of organisation for globalised world. There are
different pressure comes from side of stakeholders over business and these stakeholders of

not buying products from companies which are causing harm to environment.

business In hospitality more sustainable. In these they are the many practices by which
energy get wasted in these businesses as the main energy wastage is because of the
central operations presented in the hotels which can affect energy that are lightning
systems, kitchen equipment and boilers. The energy can be reduced by the using solar
panels and for lightning systems LED should be used in which it automated as the
climate conditions which saves the energy by reducing it and only using it when it is
required, this not only makes the organisation sustainable but it also enhances the

started using alternative crookeries to replace plastic plates and had also started the decoration

function or marriage food is wasted a lot and needs to be controlled. Food waste can be
controlled In three ways firstly to measure the portion which is required In any event or function
that the food is made according to the requirement and do not get wasted. Secondly it can be
donated in charity, or the leftover food can be packed and distributed to the needy, by this food is
also utilised in right place and no wastage happens. Thirdly dispose the food and compose it in
the form of fertilisers this can also help in wastage control.
4. Recommendation
4.1 Recommendation for improving operational sustainability
There are many recommendations which can improve the sustainability for Premier Inn.
As now a days each organisation is interested in balancing the corporate social
responsibility in such a way that it allows sustainability to the business and saves the
environment as the operation management of the organisation work according to the
requirement level of sustainability. Operations can be affected by an climate change or by
any environmental concern. The operational management can be affected in three ways
that are environmental, social and economic(Sayad, and Diab, 2022). It is recommended
to this hotel to manage each and every practice effectively in order to balance a
sustainability.
There are many ways which can save the environment as by using biodegradable
products so that they can be used in future and do not get waste. Waste can also be
managed by doing charity and composing that food in the form of fertiliser which can be
used by the plants for sustaining. Plastics should be restricted properly as it harms the
environment and it is non biodegradable and rather than that paper straws can be used so
that they can be recycled and reused again. Solar panel is also recommended to
implement as it manages the balance of electricity which helps in saving the electricity
and provide sustainability to the organisation.
The proper analysed food portion is recommended to this hotel as it helps in reducing the
waste of food. It is also recommended to set a base line in order to use to resources
