INTRODUCTION
Corporate social responsibility can be considered as an approach that is being
used in business for the contribution to the sustainable development (Cheng, Ioannou and
Serafeim, 2014). This is done by providing various benefits and advantages such as social,
economic and environmental as well to all the partners including the stakeholders as well. In
business as well, this approach can contribute to various factors such as sustainable development,
which means the utilization of resources in such a way that it can stay preserved for the future
generation as well so that they can also take the benefits, which the current generation is taking
from them. It also helps in delivering various social, economical and environmental benefits for
all the involved stakeholders.
TASK 1
1.1 Explanation of CSR
CSR refers to the corporate social responsibility which means the conscience of the
corporate. Various topics are covered in this aspect such as human rights, health and safety
etc. It can also be considered as a form of self regulation integrated in a business model. The
process involves various short term costs that may not provide benefits to the company but
can ensure the environmental and social change. Different people have their different
concepts over it, as some think it as an oxymoron, some as a distraction , specially it is
according to the lawful pursuit of profits. There are various initiatives and benchmarks of the
CSR which are discussed as under :
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which offers a way of presenting information
relating to CSR activities;
The SA 8000 standard, created by Social Accountability International (SAI), which takes
into account the principles established by the International Labour Organization (ILO);
The OHSAS standard, which is a system for managing occupational health, hygiene and
safety;
Scoring systems for socially responsible investing (SRI)

These are the benchmarks and initiatives of the corporate social responsibility that can help the
business in achieving various positive outcomes in a shorter and a faster rate.
1.2 Background and changing attitude towards CSR
As there was necessary spending on the corporate social responsibility, it acts as a piece
of legislation. It depends on the number of problems increasing on the pubic and environmental
concerns. When considering the changing attitude towards CSR, it is essential to understand the
fact that in 1960, an organization for increasing the economic corporate was developed in order
to understand all the necessary rules and regulations , with which their focus was the
achievement of economic growth that can stay stable and sustainable as well. Along with it, they
focused on increasing employment and the control over finances as well. After a few years, CSR
was started used conventionally. Various strategies have been used such as OECD’s etc. which
can be helpful in stimulating the act of National treatment and compliment the foreign
investment review. Then, in 1985, another international strategy was developed in order to have
a more stable economy that can help in maximizing the rate of economy of the world and help it
from removing from various issues, either socially, economically or politically along with the
poverty issues as well. Change in economic conditions also leads to the attitude of people in a
change towards the corporate social responsibility. The businesses these days act quite more
sensitive because of the issues they have to face in communities along with their field activities.
A narrow representation in front of people is observed as the profits and advantages only but in
reality, it is beyond the imagination.
It considers all the facts and figures people face while interacting with each other. Some
face communication issues while some face confidence issues (Aguinis and Glavas, 2012). The
more and more growing awareness of the businesses can gain a competitive advantage over this
but for developing the confidence level between the customers, it can be done by the help of
corporate social responsibility only. The people, consumers pays attention to the quality and
service of the product but along with it, they also check the overall production rate of the

company. Along with it, what are the influences of using that products and services on the
environment has also been considered (Cheng, Ioannou and Serafeim, 2014). A huge number of
businesses are interested in the corporate social responsibility because of the fact that it helps in
staying away from these issues, thus the business can focus on the achievement of all its targets
and goals more effectively. From the roots of the corporate social responsibility, along with it, a
business should also consider the other factors which are essential for maintaining the
effectiveness and promptness of the business. Various other social factors are also considered as
a reason that are behind the changing attitude of the people towards corporate social
responsibility. The term has received a lot of attention since a long time. It also helped various
businesses in preventing from the financial crises by including a number of strategies. It also
included that the companies should focus on environmental and social issues which includes the
integration of minority groups, inequality in gender, outcomes of the decision making process.
1.3 Regulatory framework of CSR
The guidelines for the regulatory framework were being released by the Ministry of
Corporate Affairs in the year 2009. There has been made a board of committees involving a
regulatory framework for various corporations and capitals that helps in emphasizing the
ethics of global corporate. Although there are various rules and regulations that are based
already but there is a requirement of the international standards and rules that are to be
supported by the agreements of the inter governmental. It also includes the liabilities of the
tax along with all the property rights.
The regulatory framework for CSR can be discussed as following :
Health and safety legislation
There is a huge range of laws and legislation's regarding the health and safety of humans
in the corporate social responsibility. The occupational illness is related to the health, but
somewhere it is also linked with the business.
ISO 26000 social responsibility
Document Page
This framework helps in guiding and providing a specific direction that can help the
company to work in a functional manner and also in a way that it can produce efficient and
better results. This however, makes the performance of the company better.
Environmental protection
CSR focuses on managing the resources so that the future generations can also be able to
do it. This can be considered as sustainable development which means maintaining and
managing the resources in a way that the future generations can also be able to use it. As per
the regulatory framework of CSR, it is the responsibility of the organization to provide
proper protection.
Employment legislation
It deals with a framework that employees must have to follow all the rules and
regulations which will be including proper practices of human resource management, health
and safety, recruiting and appreciating the performance of the talented and skilled ones.
1.4 Environmental issues in CSR
The environmental issues can be considered as the safety, maintenance of the
environmental bodies. Various policies such as recycling of the disposable items and
plastics such that it may not be able to cause any sort of harm to the environment. Also,
the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) which seems to produce much less pollution as
compared to the others. So, these environmental measures can be considered in order to
protect the environment from such issues and also in making it even more better. Proper
recycling of these things can also prove beneficial as no extra stuff has to be purchased
and the old one can be easily recycled. The process seems cost effective as well. The
exclusion of chemicals and such substances from the industries can also cause pollution
to a higher level as the excreta is being drawn in either the air, land or water. It causes
air , soil and water pollution and that too in a great extent. So, it can be prevent to protect
the environment and surrounding from such pollution's and it will also help in staying
more greener and healthier. Various issues such as pollution from the vehicles such as air
pollution is damaging the more than half of the environment. The same the wastes or
excreta which is come a form of residual from the industries gets mixed with water and

cause water pollution. It causes damage to the water and along with it, it is also very
harmful for the marine life as well. Because of the pollution in water, the fishes and other
marine bodies feels hard to respirate in water, thus it also causes death of these water
bodies. It has been observed that there has been wide damage from the industrial
pollution. The corporate social responsibility has drawn some changes in these
procedures so that there may not be any more pollution or as less as possible so that there
will be nor harm or damage to any human or water body.
1.5 Economic and Political issues in CSR
Although there are a huge range of political and economic issues in the corporate
social responsibility, but some common and well known examples can be the location of
the supplier. As if the supplier is situated at some other country other than the host
country and it has to supply the material in the host country, it can be termed as a hard
situation. This is because when shifting the material from one country to the another,
there must be some other structure of the tax amount that the supplier has to pay for
including and bringing the products in some other country. In this case, the corporate
social responsibility is being avoided by the supplier as for them, it is easy to follow the
rules of its own country as they are familiar with them and already know the details but it
will seem tough for them to follow the rules and regulations of some other county as they
must be unaware of it. So, it becomes quite difficult to follow them as quick and also pay
the amount of tax of that specific country.
It has a very strong affluence. Customer from elite level can afford to buy
and pay more for premium brand but the poor customer might not be willing or they are
not able to pay so much for high quality and standard, instead they would prefer to spend
their money on business which can take their business to much better level. These can be
considered as the economic level consideration with respect to the corporate social
responsibility. Changing the social expectation is termed as another essential factor. It is
a natural fact that the customers expect more from the company whose product they buy
but with recent controversy and scandal of company has reduced the trust and confidence
in the regulatory body and organization which manage the corporate.

1.6 Social and community issues in CSR
When the company can start employing socially, there may occur some social and
community issues. The social issues can be that the company must be new and people are
not aware of them properly and they will for sure go for the older brands. So, the
company may have to face such social issues. It will also face difficulty in competing
with the other brands because it takes time to build an impact over the market. The
organization may increase the employment by employing a few people in the company
(Aguinis and Glavas, 2012). Then, the responsibility according to the corporate social
responsibility is that the organization have to pay the required salary amount to the
employees along with the extra benefits too such as increments and investments etc.
Globalization has changed corporate social responsibility, the boundaries between
domestic and foreign industry and between in-house and out-houses activities which had
led corporate to view from both political and economic view. On one side multinational
company have taken the role of state and thus they should behave responsibly and on the
other hand they need to have corporate social behavior in order to protect their image
There are some key ways that can help in implementing the corporate social
responsibility such as an efficient communication within the organization and the top
management, appointment for the corporate social responsibility position, better
relationships with the customers, mangers, other employees etc., CSR audit annually,
process of feedback etc. These can help in a better implementation of the corporate social
responsibility.

It compiles the fact that if any employee has some sort of issue with the behavior or some
policy of the organization, t allows them to speak and the authorities tries to understand the basic
issue. There are specialized representatives that provides this support and care to these
employees. The concept of whistle blowing seems to be a positive approach that can provide a

behavior and they can speak about that. The representatives ensure that their issues will be
listened properly.
2.2 Analysis of impact of CSR on the supply chain management
Corporate social responsibility is considered as a policy which supports the quick growth
of the business. With the help of various processes and procedures, it can be associated with the
globalization , like in case of various multi national companies. These companies are being
tested by the supply chains and various practices are involved also which have worked with the
supply chains. Some strategic practices have also been included to improve the roles of supply
chain management on the corporate social responsibility. The limits that were observed are not
discrete but it somehow focused on the authoritative compounds of the corporate social
responsibility (Aguinis and Glavas, 2012). The whole idea of sustainable supply chain
management works with the dialogue organizations and make with the suppliers in order to
protect from any sort of violations of the fundamental human rights along with the international
environmental standards. This however concludes that the organizations are expected for a faster
delivery on various platforms such as social and environmental responsibility and also in
accordance with the principles and rights that have been recognized o the national as well as on
the international level. The sustainable development also includes a factor of purchasing and
profitability. It means all the purchasing can be done in a manner that it brings effective and
profitable results. The sustainable profitability is achieved on some specific factors such as the
organization is capable enough of balancing the interests of the customers, suppliers and
employers as well (Cheng, Ioannou and Serafeim, 2014). This means if a company has proper

knowledge of managing and controlling all these factors together, then it can have a number of
profits that will however help the organization in achieving more success and that too at faster
rate. On the other hand, this can also be considered as taking proper care of the needs of the
customers, satisfying them and taking proper feedback's from them as well. By taking feedback's
from the customers, they also consider the fact that they are essential for the company, thus it
further helps in staying their focus and interest in that specific organization. After that, working
on the feedback's is important which means that if the customers are not satisfied with some
product or service, then the company can think of modifying it or changing it in a manner that
the modified one seems appropriate for the customers. In reply to that the customers also
appreciate the fact that the organization is taking such care of that. Thus, it helps in maintaining
their interest in that specific organization and also benefits the company in gaining a huge
number of customers and that too the satisfied customers.
2.3 How policy of CSR impacts on business
The policies of the corporate social responsibility are being developed in a manner that it
has been successful enough in increasing the level of performance of the employees. It involved
the procedure of getting the salaries on time which satisfied the employees to a higher extent. It
also helped the business to grow at faster and efficient rate. There has been also observed an
increase in the sales , thus the company can be able to gain more and more profits. The use of
