The organization
Red Cross society group
Red Cross society group is a non-governmental organization based in the eastern part of
Australia which was founded by the members of that particular area to help in cases of
emergency as they are disadvantaged in receiving government support in case of emergencies
like floods and drought which has led to the loss of many lives.
The main mission for the Red Cross society is to ensure better living standards and better
health of the people living in the eastern part of Australia since they are neglected by the
government in terms of the social facilities like the health care centers, schools and security. Due
to poor health care facilities in the area, members of the community have been working together
with the well-wishers in building and improving the existing health care facilities in the regions
to ensure a healthy community.
The organization with the conjunction of world health organization has formulated various
strategies in ensuring that the disadvantaged members of the community that is the aged,
disabled and sick are taken care of in terms of food, clothing and shelters which are the basic
needs for a healthy living thus following their poor financial status as most members of the
society cannot afford basic needs for the households. (Barikdar, Ahmed and Lasker, 2016, pg.
30).
The social isolation of the elderly members of the society and the logic model outlined in
this document addresses some of the proposed program by the administration body of the Red
Cross Society in ensuring healthy living and protecting lives of the aged members of the society
due to the isolation by their families and the government as a whole in terms of medication, basic
needs and love.

The program
Caring for socially isolated elderly people
The Red Cross Society in partnership with the world health organization has proposed a
program for caring for the isolated elderly people in the society which is one of their mission
statement. The organization has taken the responsibility of taking care of the isolate elderly
within the society by their families and the community as a whole thus following the increasing
cases of the death and suffering elderly people are going through as they cannot manage to afford
basic needs like food for survival. Most of them are dying due to starvation and poor hygiene
around them. (Taylor, Coall, Marquis and Batten, 2016, pg. 950).
The program entails providing basic needs to the elderly people within the society like
shelter, food and clothing. Apart from the basic needs, the organization will also look into their
healthy being by incurring the medication cost on their behalf as they cannot afford to pay for
their medical bills. This will ensure better and healthy living of the elderly people within the
society thus curbing the rising death cases due to lack of care and basic needs. (Riordan, et al.,
2017, pg. 1530).

Literature review
Social consideration, responsibility and care
In caring for the socially isolated elderly members of the society, the organization will tend
to prioritize the elderly while attending to other societal needs like provision of relief food,
clothes and other basic needs since they are disadvantaged in the community as none is
concerned with their wellbeing due to their advanced age. (Raivio, Laakkonen and Pitkälä, 2015,
pg. 129).
Prioritizing the needs of the isolated elderly people in the society is a sign of love and care to
the aged people as they are neglected by their families hence though prioritizing them, they will
feel appreciated and cared for by the organization despite the isolation act by their families and
the rest of the community. (Cantillon and Lynch, 2017, pg. 170).
Another area of consideration by the organization is taking the elderly to the charity
centers which were earlier built to assist the homeless people. Taking the elderly to such homes
will help to solve the issues of shelter and isolation as they will be grouped according to their
personalities, gender and interest to reduce the loneliness and boredom they were experiencing
before due to isolation by their families. They will be able to start a new family and friends due
to their common problem of social isolation. (Coeckelbergh, 2016, pg. 460).
While at these homes, the organization will easily ensure their healthy being by
providing regular medical checkups to them without incurring the extra costs of commuting to
their areas of residence. By avoiding such expenses, the organization will channel the saved
resources to other development activities like purchasing of the wheelchairs, hiring of
motivational speakers to counsel them on how to relate with one another while at such centers.

Taking the responsibility of their safety in their areas of residence is one of the
recommended programs by the Red Cross organization in dealing with isolation cases to the
elderly in the community. The organization will be able to build a shelter for them to protect
them from any sort of intruders thus following poor security standards in the society. (Sikes and
Hall, 2018, pg. 190).
Building houses to the isolated elderly in the community will give them hope to live as they
will feel appreciated and loved thus according to the objectives of the program by the
organization. Shelters will protect them from harsh weather condition in the area which might
negatively impact their health status. (Czaja, et al., 2016, pg. 1105).
The program is aimed at educating the society about the importance of love and care to the
disadvantaged members of the communities like the aged, disabled and the sick since they are
also humans and they need love and care like others. Through education program to the members
of the society, there is assumption that the cases of elderly being isolated by their families and
community members will reduce as some of the families lacked the basic knowledge of love and
care for the disadvantaged people in the society. (Lazar, Thompson, Piper and Demiris, 2016, pg.
1039)
Provision of incentives to families who are showing love and care for elderly people is one
of the strategies to reduce the isolation cases by the organization. By providing material
incentives to such families, the incidence of isolated elderly people will reduce since most of the
families will be motivated by the incentives to care and love the elderly rather than isolating
them. (Sparrow, 2016, pg. 453).

The incentive strategy is considered perfect thus following financial status and the level of
poverty in the area as these will lure them to care and love the elderly to get the incentives for
survival. (Horrell, Stephens and Breheny, 2015, pg. 339).
Recommendation
1. Based on the literature review, community heads and leaders should advocate for the
compulsory care and love for the elderly people within the society. They are therefore
expected to walk around in the community to enact the policy since the incidence of
social isolation of the elderly people is alarming.
2. Families should take care of the elderly rather than isolating them to show gratitude to
them as they also took their responsibilities while they were young. This is a sign of
appreciation to the elderly people by their family members hence will give them hope for
a living and prolong their lives.
3. The government should take the responsibility of empowering the elderly people in the
community by providing them with basic needs like food, clothing and medication since
they cannot manage to cater for such needs due to their advanced age.
