Microsoft
One of the leading American multinational technology company i.e. Microsoft was
incorporated in 1975. At present, Microsoft is operating in 210 countries, however, its 51 %
of total revenue comes alone from the US. In the fourth fiscal year of 2019, the company
reported $33.7 billion of revenue (Protalinski, 2019). In addition, the company has employed
nearly 144 thousand individuals in full-time positions globally from which 60 per cent of its
employees are positioned in the home country of the company. The market capitalization of
Microsoft is constantly growing and today, it is one of the most valuable brands worldwide.
In terms of rank, the company is ranked at 5th position in the Forbes 2019 list of world
most reputable corporations (Valet, 2019). All the firms in such list used various marketing
campaigns to engage with new global and digital audience and this helps them to get
positioned as positive in all new media around the world. The data is presented by the
Reputation Institute, a reputation measurement and management services firm. They define
the list with surveying nearly 230000 people in 15 nations and those companies are
considered who typically have revenue more than $50 billion and brand familiarity with
minimum 40 per cent of the common population (Valet, 2019).
The corporate actions that helped Microsoft in its CSR ranking concerns with
empowerment of people, strengthening communities and protection of environment and the
planet. Considering 2019 glance, the company connect 26 million people globally with the
best practices and guidance for GDPR compliance (microsoft.com, 2019). The company also
committed to achieving 75% reduction in operational emission by 2030. Microsoft also gains
a 152% rise in the number of female corporate vice presidents (microsoft.com, 2019). At last,
$1.5 billion were donated via company Philanthropies activities and such practices and

policies reflect the company commitment to make a positive impact globally while fulfilling
nearly all CSR criteria’s.
A company approach to CSR will influence my purchase decision as when they
positively work with CSR actions and activities, it creates a sense of community and
solidarity nearby the brand as we as a consumer already hold the control of choice over
companies and purchasing decision is an extension of the beliefs that will readily support
organisations that share their values. In simple words, a company ethical standards are highly
significant to me and I will give higher priority to the company at the time of purchasing
while they supporting environmental and community concerns to a great extent.
