This project details the design of a minimum security correctional facility specifically for juvenile delinquents. The assignment outlines the type of facility, emphasizing its purpose in both confining and rehabilitating young offenders. It proposes the implementation of several key programs, including enhancement of cognitive skills to improve understanding of behavior, substance abuse counseling to assist in recovery, and creative art programs to encourage self-expression. Introduction - Definition and Conceptual
Overview
The term, “correctional facility” is used to designate a prison, a jail
or any chamber that is used to incarcerate criminals by
government officials (Remberdt et al., 2018).
The purpose of a correctional facility is to confine as well as
rehabilitate prisoners (Ibid).
Correctional facilities can be classified as medium, maximum or
minimum security facilities and are comprised of exclusive division
that are meant for accommodating such categories of criminals or
prisoners (Guarino-Ghezi, 2017).
This assignment creates a correctional facility for the housing of
and rehabilitation of prisoners. The assignment will identify the
type of facility that will be created, the programs that will be
implemented here, the total operating budget for the facility to be
created and will identify also 2 sources that can be considered for
the final course project.

Type of Facility to be Created
The type of facility that is going to be created
is a minimum security facility that is meant
for accommodating and rehabilitating
juvenile delinquents, that is, criminal
offenders who are under 18 years of age
(Remberdt et al., 2018).

Programs to be Implemented at the
Correctional Facility
Some of the programs that will be implemented at the correctional facility
are as follows –
Enhancement of Cognitive Skills – This program will be aimed at
improving cognitive abilities among inmates, enabling them to understand
their own behavior and actions better, and teaching them to make a clear
distinction between right and wrong (Swank and Gagnon, 2016).
Substance abuse counseling and treatment – This program will be
aimed at providing inmates who engage in substance abuse, with regular
therapy, enabling them to overcome from their addiction and learning how
to lead a healthy and constructive life (Yoder et al., 2019).
Creative Art Programs – Such programs will be designed at enhancing
the creative abilities of inmates. The programs will involve teaching
inmates how to express themselves through works of art, with the best art
work compositions being displayed during special sessions or events that
are held at the facility (Remberdt et al., 2018).

Total Operating Budget of the Correctional
Facility
Since the correctional facility that is being
designed and developed is a minimum security
facility meant for juvenile delinquents, the total
operating cost of the facility will not be too high.
The total operating budget of the proposed
correctional facility is estimated to be $ 22, 750
approximately, that includes the total amount
which is to be spent on the prison operations,
and which is inclusive of interest on
indebtedness (Swank and Gagnon, 2016).
