Johnny Booysen's MBA Project: Cosmetic View of Safety in SA Mines 2018

This MBA project, submitted by Johnny Lesley Booysen in 2018 to Regenesys Business School, investigates the cosmetic view of safety in South African mines. The research examines the current safety status, systems, and controls implemented by mine owners, and critically analyzes the application of the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996. The project explores the problem statement of compromised employee safety and the lack of effective prevention systems, highlighting the downward trend in safety performance since 2010. The findings, presented with supporting literature, reveal that many safety measures are reactive, and the study concludes with recommendations for proactive inspections and improved safety management to reduce accidents and maximize revenue.
