Introduction
The term HR refers to duty of the HR department of the Cost Coffee to identify and analyze the
requirements of the manpower and make a plan in order to accomplish it (Cohen, 2017). The
present study deals with the different roles and responsibilities of the HR department of Costa
Coffee and their functions. It also highlights different recruitment and selection approaches,
training and development program and performance management that are managed by the HR
department. The second part of the study deals with various advantages and disadvantages that
are associated with the HR functions.

Costa Coffee is a British multinational organisation coffeehouse. Headquarter of Costa Coffee is
in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. Costa family (Costa.co.uk. 2019) established the company in the
year 1971. At the initial stage, the company offers roasted coffee. As time flies, in the present
time the company has more than 2000 outlets in the UK across 31 countries. CEO of the
company is Dominic Paul. Yearly revenue of the company is around £1.167 billion. There are
various ranges of products that is offered by the Costa Coffee are Coffee, tea, sandwiches, snacks
and soft-drinks etc.
2. Explanation and assessments of functions, purpose and responsibilities of HRM
2.1. Purpose of HR
The term HR refers to Human Resource. It is the duty of the HR department of the Cost Coffee
to identify and analyze the requirements and make a plan in order to accomplish it. There are
various purposes for the HR department of Costa Coffee, which includes the following:
