1Personal Reflection
My focus as an undergraduate has always been with an eye toward graduate school and a career
as a professional counselor. Aware of the rigors of graduate study I look forward towards my
career of becoming a successful counselor. During the voyage of my career I have learnt the
contribution of a mental health counselor towards the society. I have learned multiple skills and
how I can use those skills in becoming a successful professional counselor. During my
Concealing Lab I have adapted the approach of emotional intelligence that is to understand other
and to be self-aware as well. I have also learnt how to actively listen to other rather than
speaking blindly. While I was working with my clients I have gained the ability to be flexible in
adaptable. This skill has helped me to sustain in any kind of situation and deal with different
types of clients. Through the sessions and my own journey of life I have learnt how to manage
time. Since, I am a single mother I had to manage my classes while taking care of my kids.
Therefore I learnt how to utilize time accordingly and get best out of it. With a busy schedule I
have struggled hard to maintain work-life balance, but when witnessed my clients I learnt that
life is not that simple and there are ups and downs and we need to enjoy each and every moment
of our life. I started cherishing each and every moment in my life and while concealing people. I
have built the strength of commercial awareness by connecting with new people and interacting
with them. This approach has fostered my thinking over diversity and inclusion. I have learned to
become more sophisticated in life, this course has allowed me to think beyond the walls and
engage everyday with something new.
This course was rewarding because it has shown a glance that how people with different culture,
race, ethnicity, gender work together under one roof. This thing was so fascinating that people
with different perspective encourage one another and work together without harming each other.
It was totally a new journey and it was a new experience for me. I used to be confined within the
four walls and my family, but now I have learned so many thing which would in professional and
personal life. This course has not nurtured my professional life but also my personal life. This
particular thing has changed my life and the way I used to perceive life and has put a great
impact on my overall work process. The activities in the course has fostered and has enlightened
my physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being. This course has given a chance to think
differently and take appropriate decisions in life. I have become focused towards my ambition
and people around me as well. I feel by taking the course I have taken right decision in life and it
has resulted in positive outcome.
