Transcription of counseling session with Mrs xyz who is diagnosed with
depression because of issues in her marital life.
(0:00 minutes to 1:00 minutes) Counselor: Hello, in this session with you I will be discussing
the issues that have risen in your marital life, which is causing you so much pain. Whatever
you say will not be reaching anywhere except this room as I am sworn to secrecy. Also, I
would request you to be honest and forthcoming with all your problems because you can
expect me to emphasize completely and I will not judge you for anything. I firmly believe
that you are trying your best and that you will be able to overcome any kind of problem. I am
always here to help. Tell me, where did you meet your husband and how did things pan out
from then?
(1:00 to 2: 30 minutes)Mrs xyz: I met my husband while I was in college. He did not study in
my college but I met him at a bar where he bought me a drink and we started talking. This
was five years ago. Decided to meet again at the park the next day and I realized that he was
much older than me, he had a job, while I was in my final year. We started dating pretty soon
at the movies and Chinese restaurants all over the town. I had never been with a man before,
he was my first love. It is because of him that I cancelled my plans of leaving to some other
city for job and I stayed back. Then we decided to get married after two and a half years of
dating.
(2: 40 to 2:50 minutes) Counselor: What happened then? Why do you feel like your marriage
has issues?

(3:00 to 6:00 minutes) Mrs xyz: While we were dating he had cheated on me with thrice,
twice with a university student and once with a woman from the bar. I had caught him texting
this woman from the university as his behavior towards me had changed, I snooped and
looked at his phone after snatching it away from him. He used to let me touch his phone and
used to be open about his days but I had realized that he had gotten secretive and he reacted
very violently whenever I was near his phone. I am not proud of snooping; sometimes I wish
I hadn't done that. He confessed to cheating on me and convinces me that it was nothing but a
mistake and you also confessed to cheating on me with another woman in the bar but that was
because I was too busy with my studies and I did not pay enough attention to him. He is
behaving the same now and I have followed him once only to come across him sitting
engrossed with another woman at the bar. I did not have the courage to go in although I have
tried to raise questions about it but he denied outright.
( 6: 10 to 6: 30 minutes)Counselor: You say that I have cheated on you twice with the same
woman, what do you mean by twice? Why do you say twice?
(6: 40 to 7:00 minutes)Mrs xyz: I said price because he confessed to having sexual
relationships with the woman twice. I don't think the loved her like he loved me.
(7:00 to 7:30 minutes)Counselor: So you are convinced that the cheating was purely sexual in
nature? I believe that you chose to forgive him because you were convinced that he did not

emotionally cheat on you. Are you convinced the same when it comes to the affair he is
currently having what do you believe that this might have emotional undertones?
( 7:30 t0 8:00 minutes) Mrs xyz: I think he is emotionally attached to the woman because it
has been going on for too long and he has lost interest in me. The last time he might have
changed but he needed sure that I felt loved but he doesn't do it anymore.
(8: 00 to 8:10 minutes) Counselor: So how do you want me to help you?
(8:15 to 9:00 minutes) Mrs XYZ: it is difficult for me and is getting worse because I am not
being able to handle it. I don't know if confronting him about this will be a good thing to do
because I do not want him to leave me. I have altered the plans I had for myself only because
I wanted to be with him. For years I have been by his side and forgiven him for a lot of
problems. I don't know if I have gone wrong somewhere part I am willing to make and
change that helps me get my normal life back.
(9:00 to 9: 45 minutes)Counselor: how do you want your normal life back? Do you want your
marriage to be completely flawless and him to commit to you? what do you want to make
sure that he does not have commitment issues and you can spend the rest of your life with
such a man. What do you want the most your happiness as an individual or your happiness as
wife?
