Selection Criteria for Registered Nurse Early Graduate Program
Selection Criteria 1: A positive approach to ongoing self-education and skill development
I am currently in my third year of studies in nursing and throughout this period I have
been able to gain valuable skills and knowledge which are critical to my professional
development. However career development is an all-round process and therefore I have also been
able to acquire training in various programs which I belief would put me at forefront of my
career path and help improve my services. I have acquired a certificate in leadership and
management which has equipped me with valuable organizational leadership and management
skills and therefore helping me to navigate through various organizational issues and provide
effective solutions. Secondly I have also acquired a certificate in counselling which I belief is
essential in understanding patient experiences and analyzing them from different perspectives in
order to provide effective solutions and improve their healthcare outcomes.
Selection Criteria 2: A flexible, innovative team oriented approach to service delivery
I find my greatest strength in working as part of a team and during my internship and
placements I was able to get involved in some team activities towards improving the healthcare
services in the healthcare facility I was in. One of the key lessons I learned was that when
working as a team, it is easier to solve various challenges that would be essential in improving
patient health outcomes. I was able to work together with doctors and other healthcare officers
from high to the low level of management. Communication was very critical in this case, and I
was able to improve on my communication skills as well as become more accountable to other
people which is critical for my career development. I seek therefore to build strong relationships

with other teams as we strive to improve our services towards improved healthcare outcomes. I
will also seek to contribute positively to find solutions through teamwork which is very useful as
compared to working individually.
Selection Criteria 3: A positive approach to change and diversity
Change is inevitable in any organization and so is in professional and career
development. I have always find it cultivating to work in different environments and get to
interact with people from different backgrounds and culture. Such change presents different
challenges which are critical to developing positive working relationships with people across the
world. Getting to learn new things and especially through my interactions with different patients
delights me the most as I get to learn their values, belief systems and attitudes towards
healthcare. In my previous clinical engagement and internship I was able to work with people
from different cultural backgrounds and even with different racial identity. It was surprising how
we could complement each other in different aspects of care and especially during our shifts,
developing plans for patients care, discussing various patient outcomes to gain more insights as
well as hanging out most of the times. I was also able to build long lasting relationships with my
patients whom even up to date have remained to be friends and always keep asking of my
progress as well as their progress despite having cultural as well as racial differences. I believe in
valuing other people and using our differences to build strong relationship but not to divide us.
Selection Criteria 4: Demonstrate a focused approach to care
Developing a positive approach to care requires having strong organizational and
management skills. I find my working experiences more comfortable and more effective when I
develop a work time plan for everything I do, and this has enabled by developing strong

organizational skills by ensuring that I plan my work before and ensure that I have everything
that is required before I attend to a patient. Most important, in the previous clinical experiences
and internships I have been able to demonstrate strong management skills through motivating the
new healthcare assistants and helping them achieve their goals, through a useful communication
skill with different personnel from different managerial positions in the healthcare facilities as
well as contribute positively towards developing solutions to address issues facing patients and
the healthcare facility.
