Challenges of covid 19 to hospitality and tourism
Travel and tourism have been affected badly due to the pandemic. As there was lock down
imposed, people could not travel. The domestic and international flights were cancelled which
led to a loss to travel industry. Rail system was also running on less capacity than usual. The
hospitality sector was also affected as people were not travelling and thus, they were closed
during the period. Even after lock down was removed, a sense of uncertainty loomed. Many jobs
were furloughed due to no revenue coming up (Thams and et.al., 2020).
As the situation improves, the measures which the hospitality and tourism industry can take are:
a) Sainitise the floors and rooms on a regular basis with door knobs and furniture also
included.
b) Tourist cars and vehicles to sanitise the seat covers and wash them frequently and drivers
to wear masks all times when taking customers for ride.
c) Hotel employees to wear masks and follow social distancing measures.
d) The sanitiser stands to be made available at the entry point of the hotel.
e) Pantry employees to wear masks and washing hands frequently while preparing food at
the hotel.
f) The customers at the entry points getting temperature noted and a brief medical feedback
of theirs taken while checking in (Japutra and Situmorang, 2021).
g) Advertising the safety measures being taken by the hospitality and tourism staff on
electronic and print media to assure the customers that they will be safe in their travel and
stay.
