The COVID 19 pandemic has affected several people all over the world. We have most
of the cases globally for both the affected people and even death cases. Canada being one of the
countries which are seriously affected by this pandemic, should have better plans for its citizens.
The Canadian government should plan for healthier and a safer city to help in the reduction of
the spread of the coronavirus among its citizens and also to ensure that its cities are safe on
matters regarding the coronavirus (Ziebuhr, 2016). Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the
Canadian government has put down some directives to be followed like wash your hand with
soap and water, sanitize and keep social distancing among others. Keeping social distancing as a
major key that helps in the reduction of the COVID spread, has affected Canadian citizen so
much since all of their operations has become a standstill.
Therefore, in regards to demographic and social changes in Canadian regions which have
been caused by the spread of the coronavirus, the Canadians should plan for a healthier and safer
city in the following ways; the Canadians should ensure that there is enough food countrywide
especially to the elderly, physically challenged and even the children (Tam, 2020). This is
important since they may have difficulty in moving due to their condition (www.avoidtax.online,
2020). When there is enough supply of food especially the groceries which are known not to be
perishable, there will be healthy and safe cities since people will be indoors and with food so no
starvation and no spread of the virus hence a healthier and safer country.
The Canadian government should ensure that its citizens adhere to all its directives which
are put in place to help curb the spread of the coronavirus. This will ensure that people keep
indoors, there is social distancing, use of masks among others. Once all these directives are being
followed by the citizens, there will be safer and healthier cities in Canada since all the means

which can trigger the spread of the virus are looked into and dealt with. On the same note, the
Canadian government should make it clear that any person who will not follow its outlined rules
will face consequences as this will instill fear on people and will have no choice but to adhere to
the government directives to avoid the legal charges (Davis, 2020).
The Canadian government should ensure that all its cities are properly fumigated. This is
important as fumigation will kill all the viruses that might be on the surfaces and ensure a clean
environment, this will be very possible since there will be minimal activities in the cities because
of keeping social distancing and demographic changes that have been brought about by the
COVID 19 pandemic. When all cities are clean and only left to those doing essential work like
the fumigators, health workers, and the security officers, there will be healthy and safe cities
even at this time of the pandemic (Lal, 2010).
The Canadian government should identify, isolate and quarantine any person who may
have a history of traveling from abroad or who may have been in contact with such kind of
persons. The Canadian government should also ensure that it has enough facility to provide the
quarantine services and also proper equipment at the health care with properly trained health
staff in proper protective gear (Mba Martins, 2020). When all these are put in place and done, the
Canadian government will be sure of no cases of spread of the virus hence healthy and safer
cities within Canada.
The Canadian government should ensure that the movement into and outside its countries
are restricted and all its borders closed. This is a very important directive since, the government
will find it easy to identify, isolate, quarantine and treat the specific group of individuals within
its country, this will be easy to minimize the spread of the coronavirus since no more cases of

infections will be recorded as there is no movement to from or even within the country. The
major factor that facilitates the spread of the virus is close contacts and since there are no
movements, the country will record no or minimum spread hence a healthy and safe city around

Essential workers are also known as essential service providers refer to workers who
offer critical or basic services that are geared towards the security, health, and safety of citizens
in a particular nation. Following the COVID-19 outbreak, the Canadian workforce has been
reduced to essential service providers alone. The service providers are classified into ten
categories which include: Information and Communication Technology which entail people who
work towards dissemination of critical information which might be from the government to the
citizens thus keeping them updated on what ought to be done during this pandemic. It also deals
with people works towards maintaining communication airlines and cables. These incorporate
workers in the broadcast, print media and maintenance of all government portals (Osler, 2020).
The health sector entails the staff who works towards combating the pandemic. They are
mainly found in hospitals and they include; doctors, nurses, mortuary attendants, pharmacy
employees, public health workers, counselors and security in the health facilities. The health
workers have to be operational to ensure the sick both Corona Virus patients and other patients
are treated and catered for appropriately (Timothy Zahar, 2020).

The third sector is known as Energy and utility which comprise of people who ensure there are
electricity supply and those who work towards maintaining the same. It also includes the IT
experts in the field and the natural gas transmission workers and those in the petroleum section.
Food is a basic need for all living things thus cannot be done without. This sector includes the
workers that deal with groceries to ensure steady supply individuals, the manufacturer’s
employees and the supplier who deal with the processing of food. It also incorporates cafeterias
and hotels who prepare food strictly on the takeaway basis and the Agricultural sector that deals
with the production of both plants and animals thus the veterinary officers are not left out. The
financial sector comprises of the workers in the financial sector such as banks. They are essential
in proving financial advice that entails payment and requisition of loans, clearing, and the
available insurance services. The financial sector is critical since it helps in cushioning the
citizen in hard financial times (Winkerson, 2020).
The water department is made up of workers who work toward ensuring a steady supply
of water, it also includes those who work towards ensuring the sewer system and the drainage
system is in order. They also include the people working toward testing the water in case of
impurities to ensure the quality of water is safe for consumption. They are also to ensure the
piping is well maintained and safe. After water, there is the manufacturing department that
includes workers who manufacture basic goods such as medical, aircraft and transport materials,
essential metal producers and agricultural materials manufacturers. The manufacturing I industry
is important in ensuring that the nation gets the essential materials needed and that the economic
status is not hard hit.

Transport is essential in ensuring that there is a free and easy movement within Canada. It
entails the road, marine and air transportation. The transport sector also helps in ensuring the
easy transportation of medical facilities, food, and other essential products. It is also important in
the transportation of essential service providers. Apart from transport, there is the security that
includes the security officers who are tasked with maintaining law and order, the emergency
response teams such as fire and medical technicians. It also includes those dealing with call
centers and those managing digital systems and the infrastructure. The government is on-call
round the clock so that the wellbeing of her citizen is taken care of. Government offices are
supposed to ensure that citizens can access the required information at the required time and
appropriately (shaw, 2020).
The Canadian society and industry can do several things to ensure better support of its
workers such as ensuring there is an affordable supply of health facilities and medical service,
lower taxation, ensure the doctors, nurses and others working in the health sectors are given pay
rise especially during this period that they have done double work. Provision of free counseling
services to essential service providers and their families on how to deal and handle themselves.
The Canadian society should also ensure a steady supply of food, water, and other essential
facilities and at an affordable price and also ensure timely dissemination of information to
workers so that they are enlightened on what to do during this moment. Lastly, there should be
the provision of residences to workers dealing directly with COVID-19 patients so that their
families are protected from infection (Dr. Timothy Zahar, 2020).
In conclusion, the coronavirus has affected people globally, all the operations have
become to a standstill, and the world economy has been affected as so many businesses have

been paralyzed. Therefore, Canadians should ensure that it has a proper plan for its citizens to
have a healthier and safer city.
