INTRODUCTION
The Covid-19 pandemic leads to dramatic loss of individual’s life worldwide and depicts an
unprecedented challenge towards public health along with work life of people (Chedid and et
al.,2020). The economic and social disruption from pandemic is devastating as people were
falling rapidly into extreme poverty. Millions of enterprises were struggling to survive and near
about 3.3 million of world’s workforce were at risk to lose their livelihood. The first case of
COVID-19 was identified on January 2nd 2020.The next variant of this virus is Omicron and was
identified on 24 November 2021. This project report is based on Covid-19, an infectious disease
which is caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus. It will cover impact of COVID-19 on healthcare,
economy and social life of UK’s people. Further it will cover deaths caused by pandemic in UK.
TASK
Deaths in UK
More than 200000 deaths have been recorded across UK as per latest data shown released by
Office for National Statistics. This milestone has been reached in late June. As per January 2021,
there can be seen nearly about 100000 deaths in UK. In week ending of July 1, 11829 deaths
have been registered in UK. It has taken almost more than a year to double death toll. As per
figures, it can be analysed that Britain has one of the highest cases recorded in Europe with a
death rate of about 2690 per million people. In the initial stage of pandemic, deaths increased in
those age of people between 55 to 64 years. Many people of this age group have died due to
pandemic. There can be seen a sharp decline in death rate due to pandemic is in June 2020 and
July 2020. In January 2021, there can be seen sharp incline in death rates. July 2020 and January
2021 are two years in which higher deaths has been recorded so far. ‘

Impact of COVID-19 on healthcare in UK
Uncontrolled infection and lockdown measures have created challenge for healthcare in UK. As
per reports, it has been analysed that only one third of people of UK are managed to access
hospital care in the peak time during first wave. Researchers have found that many people are
not able to access to hospital care due to unavailability of healthcare resources. There can be
seen unequal access to NHS hospital care for patients of various levels of income. During first
wave, people having high income had better access to consultants, prescriptions as well as to
medical helplines. The duty of NHS is to ensure that each people have access to medical
resources and treatment irrespective of location, age or ability to pay (Munir, Luo. and Dixon,
2021). In order to handle crisis of pandemic, UK reallocated its resources regarding healthcare
along with social care system. Hospitals of UK had redesigned their service and postponed their
pre-planned services by freeing up beds for Covid affected patients. Government of UK also
supported in handling crisis of pandemic. It has been also found that there was unmet need for
both outpatient and inpatient hospital care shortly after imposement of first lockdown on March
23. The level of unmet needs was much lower for non-emergency medical helplines as well as
for consultants. COVID-19 has affected healthcare system of UK and is effectively handled by
government and health workers.

Impact of COVID-19 on social life
Pandemic had led to significant social and psychological effects on population. It has been
analysed that pandemic have created stress, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress
disorder in almost all age group of people. The security measure and social distance have
affected relationship among people as well as empathy towards others. Various digital tools and
virtual video calling applications facilitates in connecting people just like real world (Uddin and

et al., 2021). People were stressed and anxious during first wave of pandemic. The security
measures which are opted in managing pandemic have affected in different consequences on
individuals, in case of social role invested. Many segments of population seem to be exposed to
risk of depressive, anxious and post-traumatic stress as they are highly sensitive to stress. Due to
restrictions of social gathering, many people have affected from anxious symptoms. Parents have
observed behavioural and emotional changes in their children during quarantine.
Impact of COVID-19 on economy of UK
The economic impact of pandemic on UK has been largely disruptive and adversely affected
many businesses. Due to restrictions to travel and social gathering, many businesses have
affected have adversely affected. Many small business enterprises have to end up their operations
due to unavailability of capital. Around 24% of workforce are at risk due to pandemic and people
with lowest income are most vulnerable and GDP of country is down roughly 30% from
February 2020. People are struggling to earn their livelihood and 23% of business have paused
their operations. Pandemic have significantly affected lives of low salaried people and they were
struggling to earn livelihood. In addition to that, economic growth of country is highly affected
due to COVID-19 (Alonzi, La Torre and Silverstein, 2020). UK government had taken initiative
to handle this crisis and to make people overcome from this threat. There can be seen a sharp
decline in economic growth of nation and many people lose employment whereas many
businesses have closed. As per statistics, it has been analysed that most of the people gets
unemployed in January and least in December.

CONCLUSION
From the above project essay, it was concluded that COVID-19 affects livelihood of people and
due to restrictions in travelling, many businesses have affected. There were more than 200000
death recorded in UK and it also changed healthcare system of UK. From a report, it was
analysed that only one third people have access to healthcare services during first wave.
Government supported hospitals by providing funds in order to allocate more resources so as to
handle crisis. Along with this, it had affected social life of people and they experience fear of
infection, became depressed. Parents observed changed behaviour of their children due to
quarantine (Loomba, and et al., 2021). In addition to that, it pandemic also affected economy of
UK in terms of low GDP and sharp decline in economic growth.
