INTRODUCTION
Tourism is considered as one of the fastest growing industry and recently it has been
affected due to outbreak of COVID-19. This virus has created a huge impact on people as well as
different industries. Due to this virus, people are not able to travel two different places as they
are not allowed to step out of their houses which results in impacting the ignore me, public
services and many more. London is taken as the destination. London is the most populous city
off the United Kingdom as its location is along the Thames River. In this report it covers the
impact of COVID-19 on social, cultural, environmental and economic aspects.
Social impact:
The COVID-19 has a huge impact on lives of people, unpredicted challenge to the health
services, food system and working of the world. Millions of companies face an unpredictable
cases, people were at risk of losing their jobs as well as people have lost the productive assets.
The lockdown was implemented on 23rd March, 2020 in the UK in which people were not
allowed to step out of their houses because of the pandemic situation. People were quarantined
into their homes as well as fear of contracting the virus (Ahrens and Ferry, 2020). This virus
affects the population in a large number, leading to the uncertainty about the disease, people
were helplessness and many more dramatic consequences were present. People were facing lot of
stress during this time and tend to form a suicidal behaviour as they have a feeling of angriness
which has almost affected the lives of everyone. Health workers were trying their best as they
were also at a risk of developing various symptoms such as burnout syndrome emotionally and
physically exhaustion and so on.
Cultural impact:
COVID-19 has impacted the tourism industry along with the entertainment industry. As
there was lockdown in UK, all industries were shutdown. These includes events such as the
UK’s largest LGBT pride festival was to be held on 27 June but due to this pandemic it was
postponed and then cancel later on. Along with this, BBC Radio cancels their big weekend music
festival which was scheduled at the end of May. Along with this various musicians such as Avril
Lavigne, Chris Martin of Coldplay were also postponed and cancelled their tours and instead
they live streamed performance on social medias (Dowson, 2020). The people who had book the

tickets to watch their concerts where now not allow to go and cancel their events. Many people
visit London as it is considered as the most beautiful city but people were not able to visit and
the tourism industry of London faces huge loss. Moreover, due to this situation, many people lost
their jobs which were working for the tourism industries. The people who were involved in
tourism industry were not able to earn any money last year as well as this year because of this
pandemic situation. Also the self employed person who has develop their market of guiding the
tourist, helping out the tourist and many more has also affected.
Environmental impact:
COVID-19 has impacted environment in a positive manner. When the lockdown was
imposed on 23rd March 2020, people of London were not allowed to step out of their houses
which mean no one was allowed to travel or roam around the city which results in dropping the
traffic as well as pollution in the environment (Landman and Splendore, 2020). It was an
enormous drop off traffics on the road and level of pollution. The scientists reported that there is
a noticeable drop in the tiny particles of pollution as well as there was also a drop in the carbon
emission. But this lockdown has a negative impact on the people of the tourism industry as the
tourists were not there to visit due to which their transport facilities what shutdown and the
people were running out of money. The taxi drivers, bus drivers we're also impacted by this
pandemic as people were not allowed to go outside and they were not able to earn a single
penny. Many people have jobs in transportation industry which leads in having stressful days and
also leads to suicidal attempts too.
Economic impact:
The economic impact of COVID-19 on London has affected in a huge manner. It has an
effect on tourism, employment, different industries and many more. As all industries were
shutdown, people were not able to people were not able to visit the city and leading to huge loss
for tourism industry as there was no earning. This leads to loss of jobs of many people. The
industry was not able to earn money which leading in reducing the economy of the country. In
2020, due to coronavirus, the GDP was fall to 9.9% (Saunders and Roughley, 2020). It was quite
a weaker for the country. Many charities funding were also drop as the fund raising was
cancelled because people were not able to give funds to them. Various clothing companies have

to sell their part as they were not able to earn money and pay their instalments. Along with this,
many construction and property organisations had to pause their work which leads them not
earning the money (Smart and et. al., 2021)(Ye and Law, 2021). The government of UK was
providing essential services to the people which include the necessary items such as groceries,
medical facilities and so on. The companies which was listed on the London Stock markets has
also fall down due to this virus. Furthermore the banks also cut their interest rate from 0.75% to
0.25%.
CONCLUSION
From the above discussion, it can be concluded that, tourism industry has been impacted by
COVID-19. This impact was such a huge that it leads to falling down of the economy, impacted
the social factors, cultural factors of the country and as well as environmental factors. Though
environment was impacted in a positive manner but it has a negative side too as people lost their
jobs who were working in the tourism industry. In this report, it covers all the impact also
COVID-19 in all the aspects of social, cultural, environmental and economy of the country.
