INTRODUCTION
The maternity is the state of being motherhood and becoming motherly. It is the section
of the treatments given to the pregnant ladies which is focusing on the new born babies and the
issues and challenges faced by them. The strategic plan in research is a process in which they are
having a cycle of work to be done and they will help in increasing the studies (Abdelbadee and
Abbas, 2020). The Covid has impacted the treatment of women and the process to get the
consultation from the doctor. The report is on the strategic plan and the impact of Covid on
Basildon university hospital of maternity. The topic chosen for the report is Devise, explain and
assess an appropriate implementation plan for one solution to resolve the challenges confronting
your organisation. The report includes literature review, qualitative and quantitative research,
academic sources of the research and hierarchy of sources.

Literature Review- The impact of Covid on the maternity
From the point of view of Manu Goyal, Pratibha Singh,Nitesh Melana, maternity a stage
in which a proper care and timely check-up of mother and infant and proper medication became
priority to check their health status as this is a crucial phase and its a necessary, Unfortunately,
due to Covid 19 ,this phase has adverse effect on maternity (Review of care and management of
pregnant women during COVID-19 pandemic. 2021). Both mother and the new born are in
danger to get infected to it, and many of them has to face difficulty during their pregnancy
period. In Basildon university hospital of maternity experienced that, due to Covid womens
were unable to go to hospitals for their routine check-up because of vast spread of deadly virus.
This had even lead to miscarriage and sometime even death of both mother and the child.
According to the author Shikhar Tripathi, Atul Gogia, Atul Kakar, in the Basildon
university hospital, it was found that pregnant women has to suffer from respiratory distress, pre
birth of babies took place and post maternal mortality rate also increased .Pregnant women has
worse hit by this pandemic than non pregnant (COVID-19 in pregnancy: A review. 2020). If
mother has to undergo with Covid test then,the baby and mother were needed to be kept isolated
until investigation and till the mother seems to be free from any danger.

According to Gillian A. Ryan, during maternity period women are stressed because of the
heath worries in respect to the development and proper nourishment of their babies so this affects
their mental health. So, not just physically but mentally Covid affects their health. The hospital
observed that pregnant ladies have severe illness and respiratory infections which cause
breathing difficulties after their delivery for which they need immediate advanced care and
support from the doctors. There is increasing rate of spread of virus and condition were getting
worst, as patients need recovered person's plasma instantly for improvement (Clinical update on
COVID‐19 in pregnancy: A review article. 2020). Lack of plasma for treatment makes the worst
situation for pregnant ladies and this increases the rate of maternal mortality rate.
From the point of view of Welma Lubbe, mother's milk is a must for an infant as they
depends on it for their nourishment after their birth as it protects them from any infection (Impact
of COVID-19 on Pregnancy and Childbirth: A Systematic Literature Review of Recent Evidence.
2020.). But, in Basildon university hospital of maternity mothers who are infected need to be
isolated so that's why they were unable to reach to their babies for breast feeding, and the infants
cannot get proper nourishment at that point of time.
According to Akhtar H, pregnant women who has tested positive has affect on their
immune system and all these cause foetal and respiratory distress in the new born babies and
abdominal distensions in pregnant ladies This all creates a large impact in the maternity period
and increase the rate of pre birth and neonatal deaths as compared to pre Covid period.
Qualitative Research
Qualitative research involves the non numerical research which includes the analyses of
the problems and increasing the knowledge. The research is flexible and focuses on interpreting
the research. There are methods of qualitative research like interviews, observations, focused
groups, surveys and secondary research. The recording is the heard and seen knowledge which is
interpreted and they are the proof of the research. The interview is focusing on the
communication with the people who are important for the organisation (Scully, Davids and
Melnitchouk, 2017). The focused group is having the discussion with the employees and they
will give the recommendations about the research. The survey is focusing on the open ended
questions and they are helping in communicating. The secondary research involves the
interpretation of the research and they are helping in increasing the performance. The qualitative
research used by Basildon university hospital of maternity is secondary research.

New research helps to increase understanding of the impact of COVID-19 for pregnant women
and their babies
From the above article it is interpreted that, the risk of covid-19 for pregnant women and
their babies are increasing. According to the new findings, it is seems that pregnant women are
less likely as compare to non-pregnant women with covid-19 to shown symptoms. In this article
it is included that having an pre-existing health conditions which puts a person a higher risk,
whether you are pregnant or not (New research helps to increase understanding of the impact of
COVID-19 for pregnant women and their babies, 2021). The research finding show that a
pregnant or new pregnant women who are facing covid-19 diseases will more likely to give birth
a premature baby. This research show that one in four of babies born to women who have covid-
19, were admitted that those babies are preterm births. Whereas still births and new born babies
death rates are low as compare to other issues. The major implications which are facing by
pregnant women due to covid-19 and new born babies are needed special treatment and extra
care of the healthy delivery. Furthermore, their mental health is somehow important for the sake
of their own health. As increasing stress and anxiety caused because of covid-19 can be
increased their health issues which become an unappropriated healthcare issue for them.
Coronavirus infection and pregnancy
From the above article it is interpreted that, a study is conducted in UK, about covid-19
and its impact on maternity. As such there are no more women who are affected from covid-19,
but the women who are pregnant needed to be having more precautions. The government of UK,
provide a specified guidelines which are related to maternal issues and precaution. As
appropriate use of face covering masks, keep themselves mobile and hydrated to minimise risk
of blood clots during maternity (Coronavirus infection and pregnancy, 2021). Stay always active,
keep exercising, healthy balanced diet and regular use of Vitamin D supplementation are some
steps and activities which are useful for the pregnant women to save their lives and make
themselves as strong to give a birth to healthy baby. One of the research said that the most
seems symptoms of covid-19 is high temperature, regular cold and cough and loss of senses for
smell and taste. In UK, Government appoint various team, GP, NHS 24 hours and online
services. Which are helpful for the women to save themselves in emergencies. They make a
special team which name is UK Obstetric surveillance system, where all the women who are
suffering from covid-19 and they are pregnant are admitted there or registered themselves.

The quantitative research is focusing on analysing the data and it should be interpreted to
have the meaningful matter to the people. They are important for the organisation because they
are involving cost and helping them in increasing the quality of the products. The quantitative
research is making the word transferred to numbers and then analysing them to improve the
performance. The quantitative research is used in Basildon university hospital of maternity. The
methods used in the quantitate research are surveys and questionnaire. The research used by the
organisation should be statistical and they are focusing on the performance. The Basildon

having many problems and they are finding methods to get better doctors which will help them
in maternity. The research is focusing on the treatments to the women who are having problems
in maternity and they should help in improving the performance.
