1. Levelling on building sites is usually carried out using:

Automatic level
Set up the tripod stand by releasing the strap holdings to unhook the clamp
on each leg then extend them to a comfortable height and fasten the
clamps.
Fix the legs firmly into the ground and ensure that the top surface of the
tripod is fairly level.
Place the instrument on top of the tripod and fix it using the screw beneath.
Level the instrument by adjusting the levelling screws until the bubble is at
the centre of the circle.
Further adjust by use of levelling screws to increase accuracy.
Rotate the instrument to ensure that it maintains the level.

Set up the automatic level as explained in question 1.
Set a peg 37.5 metres away on both directions from the tripod.
Label one peg X and the other Y.
Take a backsight reading of peg X (R1) and a foresight of peg Y (R2).
Subtract R2 from R1 and note the results.
Relocate the instrument from the centre and set it up 1.5 m from X to
obtain readings R3 and R4.
Obtain the readings of R3 and R4 and obtain the difference. Record.
