Task i
Event Background
During my career as an Architectural Design Technologies, I was a part of the project
namely the “Refurbishment and Extension of Clerkenwell Office”. This office was a Victorian
warehouse building that required addition of more workspace as well as repair and changes in
the architecture of the building in order to increase the safety value and convenience for the
office workers.
Benefits of the CPD Event
The benefits that I gained from the CPD event was that I had on-field practical lessons on
architecture. Before attending this CPD event, I learned about basic architecture design,
development of architecture based on the design, restructuring of existing design, addition of
design to an existing design and others. All these lessons greatly helped me to take active part in
the CPD event and gain practical lessons from the same. One of the benefits of this particular
lesson was that I was able to analyze a specimen of Victorian architecture that is quite different
from modern architecture. I came to know about the basic structural differences between the
different architecture styles and managed to understand how to repair these old architecture
styled buildings.
Lessons Learnt
This project was a landmark in the start of my professional career as it was the first real
life active project that I was involved in while transitioning from academic to professional
career. I gathered a lot of experience from this project that will help me a lot in my professional

career as an Architecture Design Technologist. Some of the main lessons learnt in this event are
as follows.
I learnt how to analyze real life architecture designs and propose design related
changes accordingly.
I learnt about the various design aspects of Victorian architecture.
I learnt about the differences in different architecture styles and the approaches
that have to be followed in each of them regarding expansion and repair activities.
I learnt to negotiate with the client regarding the feasibility of proposed design
and the requirements to fulfill the design related proposal.
Relevance to Future Career Progression
I wish to pursue my career as an Architectural Design Technologist and the experience I
gathered during this particular project will help me lot in the coming days. Not only I was able to
test my theoretical knowledge and technical skills in the real life project, but also I learnt various
additional things like use of software for architecture analysis and design, negotiation with client
regarding design and others. In the near future in my professional career, I hope to earn a job as a
Design Technology Manager whose main roles will include negotiation with client, development
of architecture design, proposal of design and others. My work and experiences in this particular
project will help me perform these duties well such that both my employers and the clients are
happy as I fulfill my job responsibilities.

Career Development Plan
Success – I define success not only in terms of money earned but also in terms of
personal satisfaction regarding job role and career ambition. I may be able to earn money by
doing business or some other job but I will not get any satisfaction and thus, I will not consider
myself successful. I have always wanted to be a Architecture Design Technologist and since I
have already been in this profession, I wish to rise up the corporate ladder successfully and
achieve the highest possible job role as a design technologies.
Goals and Barriers – My goal is to complete my academic career with the highest degree
in Architecture Design Technologist and get a job related to this field of study. With constant
progress, I wish to rise up the ladder and reach the highest post available to a technologist.
However, there are some barriers to my goals that are to be avoided. These barriers
include high costs of study at the highest level, limited opportunities in the regional set up,
several years requirements to complete the study, increasing complexity of the studies and
others.
Potential Obstacles – Some potential obstacles on my way to achieve my goals are as
follows.
 With increasing level of the study, the costs will also increase simultaneously and
without receiving scholarship and financial support, I may not be able to achieve
my goal while staying abroad.

 The technologist field of study is assisted by various design software that we have
to use. However, technology is constantly evolving and new software and systems
are constantly being developed. At the same time, I have to adapt with each of
these new software systems in order to complete my studies.
