C.E 1.2 PROJECT BACKGROUND
This project was my industrial training that I completed at Punjab, India in a sugar
production industry. I was working in a team and developed a set of objectives as a part of
crucial activities in our industrial training for all the team members. Following are the
objectives:
To learn about various houses and the technologies being used in this industry
that can enhance my and our team’s mechanical engineering attribute.
To complete the training within the expected timeline and gather all the
knowledge within that time span
To analyze the sectors those might be improved or modified for increasing the
production and improving the current production and output of the industry.
The training was all about to survey and collect necessary data that can be used in my
mechanical profession. I was also introduced with the facts such as ecological requirements
for the production, seed materials, varieties, different houses, technologies, and many more. I

boiling house those are listed below:

I was completing my training as the mechanical engineer and hence, my role was to
collect the relative information and understand the entire functioning of the industries
without failing. As a mechanical engineer, it was my responsibility to make sure that proper
and efficient strategies are being adopted by the industry that can maximize their production.
I looked after and evaluated the existing machines at the different houses and learn their
functioning under the guidance of the trainer. As a mechanical engineer trainee, I had to
understand the functioning an operations of all the machines and understand the required
specifications of all the machines being operated in the industry. Following are the machines:

C.E 1.5 Engineering Skills applied
The purpose of the project was to thoroughly evaluate and understand the working of
the sugar manufacturing industries and the various machine designs being used for the
production of the sugar. I went through all the houses and collected the relative information
of the machines, their functioning, and specifications.

I had to perform research before going blindly at the industry for analyzing the
current scenario and understand the functioning and operating of the industry. As a trainee it
was my responsibility to make sure that I get to know about each corner and functioning of
the machines being used for the final production of the sugar. The lifecycle of the industry
production includes the various activities from the cane unloading to the sugar production. I
gathered and learnt about the specifications of all the machines being used in the industry.

The mill house was the heart of the entire industry functioning however, rest of the
sections were also of same importance and mechanical engineering support is always
required for the final delivery and production of the industry. I collected the specifications of
every machine as demonstrated in the following paragraph:

The collection and storage of the data and information was one of the complicated
task throughout the training session. I identified that recording the data of the specifications
and the calculations could be problem for successfully gaining the knowledge related to the
ongoing functioning of the sugar industries. I developed a spreadsheet where I collected the
above provided data related to the machines.
C.E 1.9 Identified issues and their solutions
I practiced my theoretical knowledge of the mechanical engineering for evaluating
and analyzing all the machines those where functioning in the different houses of the Rana
sugar production industry. I identified Pan Station as the most complicated phase throughout
the sugar production lifecycle. As a mechanical engineer, I identified the storage of the
different tanks those were being used throughout the industry. I also studied the two different
types of the calandria including fixed type and floating type that was being used for ‘A’
massecuite boiling and for graining of B&C Massecuite boiling.

C.E 1.10 Collaborative work
The project was a collaborative success as it would have never been accomplished if
every team member had not contributed in the project. The guidance of the trainer was also
very effective in understanding the real facts behind the functioning and operations
throughout the industry. I took initiative through managing a routine that led us in
completing the training within the specified timeline without delay. We were the team of the
individuals from mechanical and electrical backgrounds and so, we had to establish an
effective communication regarding the sites those were considerable for the successful
training.
SUMMARY
C.E 1.11
The Rana sugar production industry was one of the productive industry in Punjab,
India and I decided to complete my industrial training. I used my theoretical knowledge
while moving throughout all the sites at the industry. I learned various aspects about the
specifications those are necessary for such machines those could alternatively deliver the
expected output. The expected output was to adhere the knowledge and learning related to
the functioning of the machines those are being used in the sugar industries. I also identified
that the devices being used are capable of providing more production however, the only
lagging factor for the production was the storage. Increasing the storage can be helpful in
allowing the Rana sugar industry to produce more sugar with the same machines.
