Introduction
The paper will help in evaluating that how a company can provide safe and healthy work
environment to workers and succeeds at the same time. The key to the excellence of business is
health and safety interventions at the workplaces. According to the estimation of The
International Labour Organization (ILO) around 2.2 million people are dying yearly because of
diseases and accidents at workplaces while 270 million people are suffering serious injuries. The
cost of occupational accidents is also higher which has a negative impact on the growth of the
economy. The health and safety at work can guarantee an improvement of productivity and
quality at work thus promoting employment and economic growth. Personal examples from day
to day scenarios will be used to provide a clear understanding of the concepts.
Healthy Workplaces
It is essential for employees and employer to work together for good safety management.
It is the responsibility of the employer to provide a workplace which is safe, free from hazards.
The employer must ensure whether employees are using safe tools and equipment, warn them of
potential hazards and maintain that equipment. Safety training and medical examinations must be
performed in a language that workers understand (Loeppke et al., 2015). The proper motivation
of staff should be done so that they involve and participate in safety training. It is the
responsibility of the employees to take care of their own safety and health and others affected
(Ammendolia, et al., 2016). The equipment provided for safety purposes must not be misused.
Employees must follow the instructions of the employer. They must report immediately if they
observe any defect or hazard in the workplace (Magnavita, 2017). Good cooperation must be
present between employer and employee on safety and health issues.
The Bottom line
Due to the lack of effective protection in ensuring workplace health and safety results in
absenteeism which can cause workplace illness and accidents can lead to permanent occupational
disability (Fabius et al., 2016). This has a major impact on the economy reducing the growth of
the economy. For future-oriented development human capital is prerequisite. For an enterprise to
work productively and smoothly healthy workers and healthy working conditions are important.
According to the Work Act 2005, an occupational health and safety policy programs should be

prepared at workplaces (Beus, McCord & Zohar, 2016). To eliminate the hazard and reduce risk,
Risk Assessment methods should be used. Safety and health performance should be measured,
monitored and evaluated by the organization to determine the cause and implicate design and
operation of health and safety management system (Camuffo, De Stefano & Paolino, 2017).
Continuous improvement and development of risk control techniques, systems and policies
should be done. Emergency plans must be developed and personnel should be properly trained
on what actions to take in case of emergency.
Conclusion
The link between productivity and safety and health at work is investigated in this paper.
The research demonstrates accidents and ill health at work can have a negative impact on the
productivity of the organization as well for the economy at the macro level. These cases can be
prevented by implementing some measures mentioned above. Work environment quality has a
strong influence on workplace productivity. Integration of safety and health in the organization's
policy lead to continuous improvement which helps in driving a company towards excellence.
