INTRODUCTION
Leadership is known as influencing ability of an individual person for guiding others
members and other teammates for performing all the organisational goals and objectives at a
predetermined time in efficient method. It motivates or encourage other employees to enhance
their contribution towards business objectives. Creative leadership is considered as the ability to
create innovative solutions in complex or changing situation. This report covers Tesco is British
multinational retailing organisation which is founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen. Headquarter of
organisation situated in London, England, UK. Along with organisation retailing industry is
taken into consideration. This report covers development of creative and ethical leadership skills
in real-world environment. Along with the systematic approach to research methodology as well
as advanced information skills are explained in this portfolio.
TASK
Evaluate the development of creative and ethical leadership skill in real world environment
Creative leadership: Creative leadership is considered as the ability of an individual to create as
well as realize innovative solutions in complex or dynamic situations. Creative leadership helps
me to navigate changes that enables organisation to competitive advantages in competitive
business environment. The various example of creative leadership are the very famous people
like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs and many other. Creative mindset of leaders of Tesco leads business
towards growth and development. Creativity is the most important quality of leadership that
ensures that business decisions are taken in appropriate manner (Duan, Liu, and Che, 2018). I
have developed various creative leadership skills during my degree course that helps me to
perform my operations and activities in best possible manner that lead me towards growth and
success.
Ethical leadership: Ethical leadership is defined as how an individual behave as per defined set
of principles and values which are recognised by the majority as a sound basis for the common
goods. There are values are included in ethical leadership such ad integrity, respect, trust,
transparency, honesty and trust. Ethical leaders establish positive environment as well as enhance
productivity at different level such as at individual level, team level and organisation level.
Ethical leadership must be a conscious decision. I inspire and encourage other employees to
behave in ethical manner and perform operations in best possible way (Engelbrecht, Mahembe,

and Wolmarans, 2017). Leaders of organisation, provide direction to followers through setting an
example. Ethical leadership plays important role in in influencing others in positive way as well
as present then set of actions that can be adopted by then for greater good. Leader of Tesco uses
it to maintaining credibility as well as strong reputation. In retaining industry, it is important for
the leaders to guide employees to treat with customers in ethical manner and provide right
information to them regarding organisational products and services. I have developed various
ethical leadership skills and competencies that help to lead team efforts and actions in right
direction and attain determined goals and objective in ethical manner. Throughout the degree
programme, I have gained various knowledge and understanding of regarding retain sector and
its working procedure and how leaders help business to perform in ethical way and provide
better experience to customer that retain them with organisation for longer period of time.
Ethical and creative leadership skills: There are various ethical and creative leadership skills
and competencies are developed in my personality throughout degree programme that help me to
perform professional task in best possible manner. Some ethical leadership skills that are learnt
by me are explained below:
Communication others with dignity: I have developed communication skill, throughout
the degree programme that enables me to communicate with others in efficient manner
and understand their perspective for creating mutual understanding. In retailing sector, it
is essential for leader to communicate with employees on regular bases and motivate
them to provide reliable information to customers regarding organisational products and
services (Eranil, and Özbilen, 2017). Effective communication creates transparency
among leaders and employees.
Respect others perspective: I have recognised that an ethical leader respect all people
around them regardless their position or identity. Leaders of Tesco listen each
stakeholder and give them respect so they retain with organisation for longer period of
time.
Maintain integrity: Integrity is considered as the values, words as well as actions that
are aligned as consistent. I have analysed that it is not enough to only talk with
employees but walk them to as well to demonstrate integrity.
Honesty with work: Honesty is the most important ethical leadership skill that helps me
to become honest and create trust. I have learnt that it is important for the leaders in

retailing industry to present all facts and information to customers, play fair with
competitors and communicate others with greater honestly (Nunn, and Avella, 2017).
Take responsibility: During degree program, I have learnt how to take charge of
responsibility, roles and duties as well as handling challenging situation in best possible
manner. In Tesco leaders, take all responsibility to lead team in right direction to attain
determined goals and objective in effective and efficient manner.
Value drive decision: It is important for the creative and ethical leader to take value
driven decisions that helps business to attain determined goals and objectives on specific
time-period. Ethical and creative values enable organisation to meet all set criteria and
desired outcome without compromising ethical values of business (Frazier and Jacezko,
2021). Leaders take efficient decisions that also guide other employees to perform their
operations with greater efficiency and effectiveness.
Set example and encourage initiatives: Creative leaders do not impose their expectation
on other team members, instead of that they represent example that encourages others to
follow them for attain determined goals and objectives (Srivastava and Madan, 2022).
Leaders also motivate employees to perform efficiently through provide them rewards for
providing innovative ideas and take initiatives.

understanding and knowing various strengths and weakness of a business organisation, here
Tesco. It also sees and checks that is research about the selection, identification, and in various
analysis that are done in the various business operations and functions (Reynolds, 2020). There

that are: primary and secondary data methods. Primary data is data that is collected and used for
the first time and it is collected by different surveys and questionnaires and secondary data has
already been published and used as it is collected with the help of different journals, magazines,

advanced information skills play important role in gaining depth understanding of retail industry
operations and performing operations in an appropriate manner. Some advanced information
skills are explained below:
Communication skill: Communication skills are defined as the ability of an individual to
receive and convey information and data to others through written, verbal, non-verbal, and visual

mediums. I have learned how to communicate with others to maintain mutual understanding.
They help in getting more customers and building strong relations with customers in the retail
industry.
Citation skill: It helps employees of an organization to justify their work or information that is
gathered from different sources. It helps readers to identify the source of information with the
help of references. In retail industry, these citation skills are helpful in improving performance of
the employees.
Information literacy: Information literacy is defined as the ability of an individual related to
find, evaluate, organizing as well as communicate information to others in various formats
(Warren and Shaw, 2021). I have analysed that it required effective decision-making, problem-
solving, and acquisition of information that helps to analyse information in the best possible
manner. information and technology skills are helpful in retail industry as they let us in knowing
all the advance and upgraded technologies that are present in market.
Critical thinking skill: Critical thinking skill is related to the ability to evaluate facts in order to
understand an issue and develop effective solutions for attaining determined goals and
objectives. Objectivity is most important in creative thinking because it allows me to analyse
problems without influencing judgments from emotions and assumptions. Critical thinking skills
are important in knowing all the effective and efficient solutions to the different problems and
issues that arise in retail industry.
Research skill: Research skill plays important role in finding appropriate solutions to issues
through gathering, analysing as well as interpreting information regarding a specific topic (Yang,
and Wei, 2017). This information skill includes problem-solving, time-management, attention to
details and note-taking that helps me to perform properly in professional life. Retail industry is
growing rapidly and these skills help in knowing and solving various issues in retail industry.
Computer technology skills: Information literacy is related to gaining reliable information from
website and other credible online sources so, basic computer skill is very important for this.
Knowledge and understanding of software are important for information literacy because they
allow using application programs in an efficient manner. It helps retail industry in knowing all
computer skills that are required.
Critical skills: It is related to those skills of the individual which is used by them to think
critically in relation to any topic or the area in the organisation. It is one of the important and

Ethical skills: It refers to those skills of the individual which enables the user to act in the
organisation with honesty and integrity. It is one of those skills which restricts the user to
conduct any negative and illegal work in the organisation. It helps to protect the company from
the mal practises of their related parties. It is very important for the managers of the organisation
that they create guidelines and effective code of conduct in the organisation. If certain number of
penalties are placed in the organisation, then all the employees becomes feared to make negative
acts in the organisation. In retail industry these ethical skills are important and necessary as they
help in building strong relations.

As per the above report, it can be concluded that it is very important for the organisation or
specific industry to have effective leader who have ability to guide followers in right direction to
attain determined goals and objectives. Students learn various skills and competencies from their
academic life that help the to perform their professional work with greater efficiency and
effectiveness. There are various approaches of research methodology that helps an individual to
gather reliable and important information from various sources.
