Introduction
In current time, leadership is considered as the highly important aspect in order to grow
and succeed in professional career. Creativity is about including new and advance concept in
leadership. Here, creative ways are used to guide, lead as well as support the development of
individuals. Ethical leadership refers to follow ethical and sustainable practices to ensure well-
being of each & every person at workplace. It is concern with different aspects such as integrity,
respect, trust, fairness, transparency and honesty (Wadei and et. al., 2021). The main aim of the
study is to assess the personal and professional development in terms of creative and ethical
leadership. In the given scenario, I am working in one of the prestigious company of retail
industry names as TESCO. The study is classified in two parts wherein the first part will cover a
portfolio based on research skills on the industry. Further, it will include development of creative
and ethical leadership sills based on the experience in the real world. In the second part, it will
include a personal and professional development plan based on the self reflection, appraisal and
self-management.
Portfolio
In the present scenario, I am working at one of the prestigious company of retail industry,
Tesco. Here, TESCO is a well-known company of retail sector of UK which offers range of
products such as groceries, mobile, clothes and more. Now, the company is working within
diversify fields such as finance, retail, food etc. The company is working within 13 countries
globally which allows them to serve the global audience. In 2021, the company has nearly 5000
stores across the globe. The main aim of the organization is to provide quality products to the
customers. Apart from this, they are able to earn huge amount of profit that is possible due to
remarkable leadership of the entity.
Leadership is the ability of group and individuals to influence others. It is an art of
supporting, guiding as well as influencing the followers or members of the organization. Leaders
are likely to take organizational decisions and also articulate a clear vision so that the pre-defined
goals can be attained. Apart from setting vision, they help followers with knowledge and
information to accomplish the set goals. The major characteristics of effective leaders are self

confidence, communication, decision-making, innovative thinking and more (Feng and et. al.,
2018). Apart from this, the leaders have ability to take strategic decisions and convince others to
follow their decisions. They have the competency to affect the followers in a profound way.
Currently, leaders need to follow creative and innovative ways to attract the followers. They
need to convince the followers to follow them. Also, they need to maintain effective
communication and motivate the individuals in an efficient manner. For this purpose, they need
to follow creative ways to motivate and inspire the followers. Ethical leadership is also gaining
popularity in current time. It is concern with following the best possible practices to guide and
lead the people. Here, leaders are likely to select such ways which can drive positive outcomes
for the company and its employees as well (Shafique, Ahmad and Kalyar, 2019). It is related to
following set of principles and values that have been recognized for the purpose of common
good. The major aspects which are considered in ethical leadership are trust, honesty, integrity,
fairness and more.
In retail industry, there is requirement of ample of skills to ensure the development and
growth. Here, leadership skills are highly important to perform different roles and
responsibilities in the retail industry. While working in the industry, there is requirement to
handle the team of different individuals which is possible by having good leadership skills
(Ahmad and et. al., 2019). In addition to this, there are certain other skills such decision making,
coomunication, time management and more are required to work in retail industry. In this
context, I am working at TESCO where I need to perform several duties and responsibilities in
order to ensure my professional development in the industry. Here, creative and ethical
leadership skills are important for me to grow and succed in the respective sector. However,
there is requirement of some other skills such as decision making, time management,
communication and more that will help me in terms of getting growth and success in the retail
industry. To position myself as a professional in retail industry, necessary steps are given below:
Being adaptable: Currently, the business environment is changing constantly hence, it is
imperative for a person to adapt the changes. In retail industry, there are several changes have
been introduced in the retail industry in terms of technological advancements, artificial
intelligence, robotics and more. To become a good leader, it is required to adapt the changes that
are coming in the business setting (Javed and et. al., 2018). I am adopting the changes within the

retail industry so that I can guide my team in an efficient manner. In TESCO, they are
implementing new and upgraded techniques such as artificial intelligence, robotics and more.
Here, I am improving my knowledge and skill set so that I can work in the change environment.
It will also put a positive I influence on my team members so they will also work in a change
setting for the betterment of the whole company. This behavior will allow me to make a
sustainable career in the retail industry where I can grow and succeed in an efficient manner.
Fostering a positive workplace mentality: It is often seen that employees develop a
negative mindset regarding the workplace which directly affect their work performance. In this
situation, it is the duty of leader to develop a positive environment at workplace wherein
employees have freedom to express their viewpoints, thoughts and perception (Ahmad and
Umrani, 2019). In retail industry, positive mindset of the employees is crucial in order to ensure
success and growth of the entity. In this context, I ensure to influence the employees in such a
way that they start to have a positive workplace mentality. For this purpose, I maintain proper
communication with the team members and ensure that they have a positive approach. It will
strengthen my performance as a leader and will also make me able to become a strong
professional while working in TESCO. Here, I can easily handle the team of different people and
maintain a positive and friendly environment at work place. By developing this behavior, I can
easily grow as a professional within the respective industry.
Communication Skills: Communications is considered highly important to maintain
proper flow of information at work place. It refers to the exchange the information between
different people to attain the business goals (O’Reilly and Tushman, 2021). In retail industry,
there is requirement to maintain effective communication with buyers and other relevant
stakeholders. In context of current scenario, I am working with TESCO where I need to
communicate with different people on daily basis. I need to exchange the information with key
stakeholders such as employees, investors and more. Ability to communicate with others
effectively will help me in making a unique identity within the industry. Further, I can ensure my
professional growth and development in the industry by maintaining effective communication
skills.
Decision-making skills: In business, several decisions are taken on daily basis. To make
appropriate decisions, one needs to have the ability to analyze different factors so that a suitable

decision can be taken. To work in retail industry, it is imperative to analyze various factors in
order to take meaningful decisions (Goodwin, 2018). Apart from this, decision-making is also
important to grab the opportunity of business success and protect the entity from future
uncertainties. In the present context, decision making skills will help me in making an enriching
career in the field of retail management. I can acquire good position at TESCO by having good
decision making skills. Through this, I can put a better and effective impression on the managers
and leaders that is crucial for my career growth & enrichment.
Time management: Time management is a vital skill to prepare an appropriate schedule
in order to accomplish the duties in timely manner. This skill is helpful in making an effective
schedule so that one can manage different activities efficiently. It allows an individual to make
the optimum use of available resources to accomplish the pre-defined goals (Black, 2019). In
context of retail industry, time management is really important in order to accomplish various
activities at the same time. Here, I need to do multitasking while working in TESCO. For this
purpose, I need to manage my time in such a way that I can complete different activities within
pre-defined period of time. This skill is imperative to make a successful and enriching career in
retail industry. By developing time management capabilities, I can easily ensure professional
development and growth within respective industry in longer run.
Industry expertise: Industry expertise signifies having relevant knowledge and skills to
work in a respective field. Here, retail industry is one of the most emerging industries globally.
There is requirement to have several skills such as communication, leadership, decision-making
and more to work in the retail industry efficiently (Boone, Kurtz and Berston, 2019). Apart from
this, it is also imperative to have knowledge of ever-changing trends of the respective industry. I
am working at Tesco which is a large multinational company. I need to maintain proficiency and
necessary business acumen to acquire a good position within organization. Here, I am required to
update my knowledge and expertise as per change in the trends of retail industry. It will help me
in getting professional career growth at workplace.
From the above-information, it is identified that retail industry is constantly growing
hence, I am required to have various skills and competencies to ensure professional
development. In this context, I will work on my creative and ethical leadership, decision-making,

retail industry hence, one is required to have different skills and competencies to make a bright
career in the respective field. In this context, I am working on development of various skills such
as decision making, communication, time management and more. By gaining proficiency in the
respective areas, I can easily ensure my professional development & enrichment that will lead
me toward attainment of career goals.
