Beyond Circle Time
Many studies and practices have informed about the effectiveness of early learning
approaches in a child’s life. Initially, people do not use to give importance to early childhood
development, but with time, things have changed. In my opinion, the early stages of learning
embark a solid future for the children. The presentation clearly highlights the different crucial
activities that are necessary for the better development of the child. From adapting to the
habit of understanding and recognizing different phonemes to involving the child in more
scribbling activities, each approach helps in better child development (Anne Armstrong &
Depper, 2014).
I believe that the five main skills that are reading, writing, singing, talking, and
playing, all require equal focus during the early days of a child’s life. In addition, all these
activities are also interrelated and help a child in attaining a better understanding of the world
around him. The vibrant colors play a very crucial role in attaining the attention of the
children. However, with a personalized connection, the children are immensely motivated to
learn more. The book “Open this Little Book” by Jesse Klausmeier is created with the same
intention. The book is vibrant and the different layers inside it play with the mind of kids
making them inquisitive. In my opinion, during the early stages of a kid’s life, a child can be
motivated and demotivated with small activities and gestures (Klausmeier, 2013). Thus, it is
crucial that the different activities conducted for their learning should be thoroughly planned.
The other aspect that is vital in the early child’s development is that they should be
provided with the opportunity to express themselves. During the early childhood days,

children learn from each and everything in their surroundings. Thus, it is essential for the
parents and people around them to explain them different objects and activities in detail. In
my opinion, along with building their vocabulary, this also helps in improving their
expressing power and is beneficial for improving their talking skills. Thus, in my view, even
if the smallest aspect of a kid’s life during younger days is supported and worked on, then
that will definitely draw great results. The presentation highlights even the minute things like
building the finger strength of a child, or building the hand and eye coordination of a child.
These small contributions in the early stages are very important for the future of the kid
(LaRochelle, 2013).
In my opinion, the one activity that I believe should be practiced more often is
scribbling. This activity must be practiced in different fun ways, encouraging the child to
enhance their scribbling skills. This will further help in improving the writing skills of
children as scribbling is considered as a pre-writing activity (Numeroff, 2013).
In the end, I would like to conclude that all the various different literacy skills like
reading, writing, singing, talking, and playing should be conducted in fun ways and should
not impose any pressure on the kids during the early childhood days. Also, it is paramount to
ensure that they are always motivated and encouraged during the different learning processes.
