Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment solution analyzes the role of technology in crime analysis, focusing on Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geographic profiling, and surveillance technologies. It explores the benefits of crime analysis for both communities and law enforcement agencies. For communities, it highlights increased safety and the ability to implement targeted laws. For law enforcement, it emphasizes efficient resource allocation, suspect identification, and the development of effective crime reduction strategies. The solution underscores the importance of these tools in the current era, where crime rates are increasing, and the need for safe environments is paramount. Crime analysis 2
Question 1
Answer 1
Technology is used by the every sector to secure the confidential data and also provide the
assurance of the safety to the residents living in the country. The need for the effective
utilisation of the technology in the crime analysis in the crime analysis is equally important.
The technologies majorly used are as follows.
GIS: It became one of the important tools in tracking and responding to the crimes at the
neighbourhood level. The departments across the country use the GIS to expand the coverage
and utilise the same to patrol the officers and the resident of the community. For example the
crime mapping information is available along with the wire laptops in patrol cars to the
officers with access the information easily and to record the data and subsets of the crime.
The maps enable the officers to pinpoint the business contact information when the alarm
makes the sound rather than getting the information from the dispatcher of the call (GIS.
2018).
Geographic Profiling
The other technique that can be used to accurately determine and observe the crime is the
geographic profiling. Geographic profiling or the combined use of the psychology,
mathematics and the geography to identify the location of an offender which is most
commonly associated with the serial killers, rapists and arsonists. This tool is also useful to
investigate the location of the offender across different series of locations (Crime Mapping.
2018).
Surveillance Technologies

Surveillance technologies represent the wide range of the systems, used by the enforcement
of the law, the military, and even the private entities to track the location and the movements
of the person under coverage. Some of the examples are CCTV, GPS, Biometrics and the
APIS systems. The closed circuit has grown significantly and it helps too enhances the
security at the airport and the public entities (Electronic Frontier Foundation. 2018).
Question 2
Answer 2
Two benefits to community
One important benefit of crime analysis to the society is that the people living in it
will feel safe and secure as the crimes will be reduced and safety will be increased.
Proper examination of crime data will help the police officers to reduce the crimes as
much as possible. Moreover, the workplaces will become a better place to work on as
every sort of crimes will be eliminated with the help of crime analysis.
Another advantage is that with help of crime analysis, one can identify the type of
crimes that happened in different societies. With such identification new and
appropriate laws and regulations can be implemented in order to make societies more
safe and secure. Police officers can evaluate all the data properly by using strategic
analytics to deal with different types of crimes happening in the society. It will
eventually be beneficial for the people of community as they can feel independent and
free to go out and work at their desired places.
Importance
The above discussed benefits are of much importance that in today’s era number of
crimes are been increased which are required to be controlled and reduced as soon as

possible. It is very important for the communities and its people to feel safe in the
environment in which they live. Advantages derived from the tools and techniques used
in crime analysis are important for the societies as it makes them secure and crime free.
Two benefits to law enforcement
Crime analysis is basically a function of law enforcement which includes systematic
analysis of identifying and analysing patterns in the crime and disorder. Such patterns
help the law enforcement agencies to use the available resources in much more
effective and efficient manner. The analysis of crime also helps the agencies in
assisting detectives for the identification and apprehending suspects.
The potential benefit of conducting an analysis of crime is that it includes the
inspection of data and application of some specific analytical techniques which help
in focusing police efforts towards the more effective and efficient crime reduction
strategies and lead to managerial accountability (Taylor, Kowalyk & Boba, 2007).
Importance
It is very much necessary for law enforcement agencies to have such benefits as it will help
them to work properly and eliminate as much crimes as they can. The benefits allow agency
to use the data in the most efficient manner and analyse the crime related information
quickly. The agencies can identify the crimes quickly and police forces can concentrate on
their work in an effective manner.
