Introduction
In the present scenario, the rate of criminal activities is increasing rapidly. In the past few years,
the society has faced a number of criminal activities, which has affected them in several ways. In
the United Kingdom, the number of crime rates is quite high in comparison to other countries.
Therefore, the government and police force of the country requires taking severe actions in order
to reduce the crime rate in the country (Hales, 2018). In this assignment, the different methods
that the police force of the country makes use of in order to record the crime will be highlighted.
Furthermore, the information, which can be utilized in order to measure the performance and
trends of the police, will also be discussed. The project will shed lights upon the effectiveness of
the different ways of recording the criminal activities.
Task
1. Analyze how public and directive expectations are met through current policing
methods. For this consider the current methods for recording crime, how the information
can be used to measure trends and police performance. Also, how having the information
will help to direct policing operations.
The UK police force makes use of a number of methods for recording the different criminal
activities. Some of the significant methods are:
Incident Recording and Reporting
In this method, the police records the crime based on the first information being provided by an
eye witness of the crime, the victim or any individual related to them. The criminal activity can
be both taken in written and recorded form (HMICFRS, 2018).
Deciding if the Crime must be recorded or not
In this case, the UK police record the crime after verifying if the report is worth being reported
or not. This happens when there is very little or no evidence available for the crime.
Recording as per the offense

In this recording method, the UK police determine if the crime needs to be recoded first or the
criminal must be immediately arrested. Such cases take place when crimes such as murder, rape,
theft, and so forth takes place.
The performance and trends of the police can be determined by assessing the different scenarios
that the police force faces and what crime recording method and legal actions do they take in
order to handle the crime.
2. Evaluate the effectiveness of different methods of recording crime.
Incident Recording and Reporting
This method helps in getting the first hand information of the crime, thus helping the police force
to investigate and examine the case in a better way. Furthermore, this method helps in reducing
the risk of evidence malfunction, as this provides no occasion to the criminals to temper the
evidences or harm the eyewitness or the victim in any way.
Deciding if the Crime must be recorded or not
This method helps the police force to avoid punishing the innocent individuals as many a times it
has been noticed that several innocent victims are punished due to lack of evidence or witnesses.
Therefore, this provides the police with the occasion to investigate upon the case prior to arrest
the criminal.
Recording as per the offense
This method facilitates the police force to arrest the criminal first as chances prevails for the
criminal to elope during the investigation process, thus making the task more difficult for the
criminals (HMICFRS, 2018).

Conclusion
In the above report, the project has discussed the different policing and crime recording methods,
which are effective in order to maintain the low criminal rate in the country. Besides, the project
has evaluated the efficiency of the different methods and techniques that the police force makes
use of in order to record the crimes.
