Correctional System is one of the most necessary components in the field of criminal
justice. It is the most important feature for correcting a criminal in US.
Criminal justice system in US is a set of processes established by government to
control the rate of crime in US and thereby imposing penalties on the people who violates the
laws. In the United States there are a number of Criminal justice systems. The main goal of
this Criminal justice system in US is rehabilitation of the persons who commits the crimes. In
this way occurrence of other crimes can also be prevented which is another goal of Criminal
justice system. Another goal of this Criminal justice system is to support the victims upon
whom a crime is being caused. (Schmalleger2017).
Criminal justice system in US is classified into three parts:
1. Police: Police are the agencies which enforces law
2. Courts: The courts judges along with the lawyers forms another part of Criminal
justice system.
3. Corrections: It includes the agencies which are used for supervising and detaining
the criminals like prisons which are nowadays termed as Correctional Homes.
In Criminal justice system, these three agencies work together for maintaining law
and order in the society. (Cole, et al 2018).
Police are concerned with maintaining peace in the society and thereby to enforce
laws on the basis of jurisdiction. While Courts are the place where disputes are solved and
administered thereby upholding law and order in US. Corrections being the third pillar of the
Criminal justice system include Correctional Homes and Rehabilitation centres.
