Global narcotics issue
Various measures have been taken by governments in relation with narcotics. In order
to control the movement of certain drugs in the country, governments have made certain rules
and have been regulating them very strictly in the respective countries. Despite various
policies being already made by governments, in present time, the traffickers with their
elongated contacts have spread these harmful and addictive drugs to the people worldwide.
These policies are not very much effective certain specific areas. In these times, it is quite
difficult to make policies that cover almost all the aspects in relation with the growth and
monitoring the transactions related to drugs. Here in the below discussion the main issue that
has been tended to is the kinds of issues that policy makers face while introducing the policy
to prevent people from abusing narcotics and the areas or aspects that need to be covered in
order to do that. Though various discussions have been revolving around in the public and
even in specifically elected groups, but most of them did not yield to a proper conclusion as
there were many drawbacks.
The policies help out with proper control and regulation of the narcotics in the
country. But due various associating aspects or factors, these policies are not able to conduct
the job they were meant to do hence; there is not effect at the end even after the policies are
made. The policy makers face issues in relation with this as whether the policy will be
efficient enough that after proper regulation it can go on further or at first can be
implemented or not (McCarty, Priest, & Korthuis, 2018). In order to see the policy being
implemented, policy makers have to look into two main aspects; one is that the psychoactive
drugs which are those that are actually beneficial to the people but to a certain limit only and
exceeding that limit can cause addiction or side effects which can harm people, hence, its
administration is very much required (UNODC, 2019). Another aspect is the rapidly

changing society, associated political parties and their ideologies as well as again and again
renegotiation of certain issues that have been already decided up on certain issues all of these
contribute to the policy making procedure. Similar situation takes place in almost every kind
of drug. It is started with a less of amount consumed regularly and then people become
dependent upon it, which is how addiction takes place (UNODC, 2016). The awareness
related to the abuse of narcotics needs to reach the common man so that they can avoid using
these addictive drugs. This will ultimately put an end to the financial aid that Drug cartels or
mafia and even certain political powers in some countries are being facilitated with, in order
to conduct their organized crimes. Corrupt officers need to be removed from their positions
as they pose as a threat to community and strict monitoring is to be required in areas where
the basic structures of these drugs are grown such as strict regulation of opium being grown
or even cannabis needs to be regulated in the best way possible.
It is not just that Afghanistan or Myanmar are the countries which produce such a
high amount of addictive drug, but various other drugs including heroin and cocaine, but
mostly the countries from the Central Asia such as Turkey, Greece, Iran and even Russia as
well as other middle eastern and gulf countries are as such where the reports of high drug
trafficking and drug markets have been recorded (Ghodse, 2016). Millions and Billions worth
of drugs are being sold and purchased throughout the countries as such, despite a firm legal
system. Traffickers throughout the world have found ways around the system and work
according to that (Gussarova, 2016).
The issues that these policy makers face include the political situation of that
particular country or even the health associated circumstance. Alongside these, the vulnerable
groups that are going to be affected by these policies and how the demand and supply as in
the economic status of the country and also the past policies and their effects all of the above
need to be analysed in order to make a policy. These issues when conferred upon in depth,

policies such that it can be effectively regulated. Black markets need to be seized in order to
make it an ethical business. The political and the social aspect all need to be covered in such
