INTRODUCTION
Law and regulations are important for the ethical conduct of business activities and
attitude of people. This aids to promote the equality and sense of security among people or
parties. The present report is based on criminal law and criminal justice system which protect the
right of society and promote the freedom. The report covers contemporary examples of criminal
justice system along with application of criminal law.
Criminal law
Criminal law is the law body which deals with the matter of crime in a particular country.
In major cases the criminal law is set up through statue which is enacted by the legislature. It
consists of several kind of punishment provided to people who violate these framed regulations
or laws. However, it is quite different from the civil law and depends on the jurisdiction. Here,
the emphasis is laid on punishment of people rather on compensation to victim and resolution of
the dispute. There are five basic objectives of the criminal law which are accepted by the
enforcement of the criminal law. These different from jurisdiction. It consists of the retribution,
deterrence, restoration and rehabilitation as well as incapacitation.
Criminal justice system
The criminal justice system deals with the practices related to deterring, social control
and mitigation of crime. The major aim of the criminal justice system in the Wales and England
is to reduce the crime with the introduction of more offenses to justice. This aids to provide the
greater level of confidence among public and secure their right to raise their voice against the
crime. In USA there are different types of court sentence provided for the person at guilty (US
criminal justice system, 2017). It consists of prison sentence, suspended prison and court fine as
well as community sentence. Such kind of practices are used for the protecting the right of
people and provide them right kind of environment so as to live freely. Apart from this, judge in
USA considers the need to protect the public, cut crime in future and change the behaviour of
offender.
Contemporary examples
An example of “HealthSouth accounting scandal”; the largest comprehensive
rehabilitative services companies founded conducting unethical financial practices since its
origin in 80s. Here, the leader Richard Scrushy tried to hide the profitability but was agree to pay

$325 million for allegedly defrauding Medicare and other federal healthcare programsOwing to
this, criminal justice system was applied and Scrushy was sentenced to a six-year, 10-month
prison (10 white collar crime cases that made headlines, 2017).
Application of knowledge in the everyday life experience
The above mentioned aspects related to criminal law or criminal justice system enable me
to take the remedial action in case any act is suspected in the society or with any one. I can apply
or claim for the person at guilty. This aids to protect life of others and myself with security and
promote the better environment in the society. Furthermore, with the use of criminal law system
I can protect myself and others associated with me.
