INTRODUCTION
Criminal victimization does have significant impact on well-being of victims, their
surroundings, families and society as whole. As per assertions of LePard, Demers, Langan,
and Kim Rossmo (2015), the specified impact can be assessed in direct as well as indirect
manner. In short it can be said that the effect of crime could enhance the cost of policing,
additional preventive measures along with victim services. Present report revolves around
assessment of demographics of victimization and the manner in which serial killers having
different typologies apply different method for victim selection. Further, manner in which
choice of victim related to typology of killer; has been assessed in order to ascertain the
manner in which victim characterization provide assistance in investigation.
MAIN BODY
Demographics of victimization can be referred as statistical data or characteristic relating to
treating someone in intentionally unfair manner due to race, sex, beliefs etc. Location does
relate to demographics of victimization in a manner that the individuals who have not
suffered any crime believe that their location is more secure in comparison to other areas.
Moreover, higher rate of criminal victimization can be foresee in locations which are far from
main market area. The typology of different serial killers differentiates on the following
basis:
The visionary serial killer
Power forceful serial killer
Opportunist serial killer
Revenge serial killer
The selection of victim by the serial killer varies on the basis of the typology to which they
belong. For instance revenge killer acts in manner as mission oriented killer and seeks for
revenge for the suffering which has been faced by him (Leyton, 2018). On the contrary
power assertive killer behaves in manner same as power/ control oriented murderer.
However, opportunist serial killer cannot be predicted easily as it attempts for most
expeditious means of end. The method of killer depends on the excitement of murder and the
security of place where the victim has been kidnapped for being abused sadistically. Mass

murder involves incidents where several victims are murdered simultaneously or in general
area at roughly same time. The difference between method of mass murder and serial murder
is that in case of serial murder a series of two or murder is committed as separate event on the
contrary in case of mass murder several people are slayed at approximately same time by
lone assailant (Keatley and et.al. 2018).
The typology of Tedy Bundy does relates to his selection of victim i.e. same as a power
forceful serial killer. As he attempted to prey on young and attractive college women on
which he can apply his power easily. Further, as police was also not able to predict his crime
because no evidence could be traced through rudimentary forensic techniques (Jenkins,
2017). Thus, it can be assessed that typology of serial killers is relation to its manner of crime
and victim selection.
I would have surely used victims’ characteristics in order to investigate the crime. The reason
behind same is it will help in ascertaining the next step of victim as well as to know the area
where killer could be found.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from above analysis that victim’s characterization could be applied as a
strong base for resolving the case as well as for ascertaining the killer. Further, geographic
profiling contributes for attainment of evidence and further investigation in significant
manner relating to serial killer.
