Part 1: Discussion paper (summary of your topic from Project 1 - 250 words).
Criminology is discussed in the given paper. This is defined as scientific study for
managing, extending, controlling and preventing criminal behaviour at social and individual
level. Family violence is act which includes abusive, threatening or violent behaviour of person
at home. This can happen with adults, women, children. Generally this term is used for
describing behaviour of intimate partners and other family members (Band-Winterstein, and
Eisikovits, 2014). This report has different aspects of violence at home and perception of
media and public towards it. In the given project, case study of a family in Victoria is given and
way of punishing criminals is discussed. There are many cases of family violence in Victoria.
Legal professionals are provided effective trainings so that they can work appropriately while
dealing with family violence. This will help in ensuring self defence from Victoria Courts.
Economic violence is known as the most offensive crime that affects whole system and
negatively impacts family members. There are many complex cases that arise due to the
discrimination of males and females. There is a drastic increase in family violence in Victoria
and due to this new strict rules and regulations are given by law. Before punishing the criminal,
there are several prospects which are considered. Media is also an important factor that helps in
representing scenario of case to all people.
Part 2: Annotated feedback on a sample project (covering a different topic - 250 words).
There is presence of restorative justice in different forms in different territories and states
of Australia. The main objective of this is to bring all individuals together who are affected by
crime in order to repair harm caused. There are different restorative justice programs which are
directed at crime committed by young people (Van Ness, and Strong, 2014). The project is
emphasising on current restorative justice programs in Victoria. In this project, social control
theory is discussed which describes that community bonds help in preventing people from doing
criminal activities. There is special focus given to youth category as they are more prone to do
criminal activities. Australia youth justice system depends upon principle that young people must
be placed in detention. These programs depends on collaboration between victims, offender and
other individuals who are affected by crime. Such programs emphasises on addressing actions by
utilising resources and modifying young individual's behaviour. The major key issues n
Victoria's youth program are accessibility, difficulty and obtaining victim absence and referrals.
In Victoria, there is limited access to other interventions like accommodation services and

rehabilitation services. There are different positives to youth program such as participant
satisfaction, cost and recidivism.
Part 3: Annotated feedback on a second sample project (covering a different topic - 250
words).
It is presented in the report many observations during visit to Melbourne Magistrates
Court. They are categorised into three types i.e. customs, observations and procedures. This also
includes power and gender. In this case, Cardinal George Pell is highest ranking member of
Catholic Church who is charged for doing criminal activities. Media played a very important role
in describing scenario happened in that case. Melbourne Magistrates' court has an interesting
experience which was enriched by timing of Pell case. Media and police grabbed the scene
immediately. In the court room there was experience of courtroom titles as well as rituals like
bowing, standing, displaying use of symbolic capital and exchange to maintain order
(Mikkelson, 2016). The main motive as a filing hearing is to establish in a timeline for court
dates. There is occupancy of males and females in courtroom. In the case given majority of
lawyers were female. The first women who practised in Australian court was in the year 1905.
there are many challenges and difficulties that females have to face while entering into legal
profession. It is concluded that women have to work more hard for becoming solicitors. There is
an increase in modernisation but there is still male dominance in legal profession. Courtrooms
have generally male people working in prestigious positions in court like barrister, prosecution
and magistrate. There is very varying power dynamics that is resting under the surface of court.
