Crisis Theory and definition
Crisis in real life is a common nature. People are always suffering with crisis and
problem in course of their life. However, there are some crises that are beyond the general
perception of crisis. According to the general assumption about crisis it can be argued that it is an
event that causes instability and dangerous situation in human life and affects individual, group
or a community (James and Gilliland, 2012). Moreover, the gender categorisation of crisis leads
to a different perception and requires different intervention policies. In this context, often it can
be seen that women are suffering with trauma related to violence and victimisation of the society.
Besides this, using drug substances and lack of mental stability are also responsible for the
instability in women psyche.
In this regard, there are three types of crisis for women such as developmental crisis,
situational crisis and the existential crisis. In case of the developmental crisis, many college
students like to stay home rather attending the class. It is because of homesickness and
depression that make them feel uneasy to face the outside world. Besides this, in case of the
situational crisis, divorce is considered to be an important issue in this context (James and
Gilliland, 2012). After divorce or separation, women have faced series of problems from the
society and legal right of their children. Moreover, in case of the existential crisis bullying or
lack of motivation for the school and college goers and in professional world made the women
uncomfortable to do the work and do not willing to proceed further.

In this regard, the trauma committee of the Women, Co-occurring Disorders and
Violence Study (WCDVS) and the work of Harris and Fallot have opined that the Trauma
informed service must have possess the facets like resource coordination, substance abuse and
trauma issues, trauma-specific service and the parenting support and health care (Elliott et al.,
2005). In this context, the focus of the trauma –informed service must put emphasis on the case
study of the trauma and implementing a policy or a planning to resolve it. The reason behind
conducting the study on the women specifically is that there are little studies that are reflecting
the issues of the women and lack of planning procedure to help women to get over from trauma.

Crisis intervention strategies
There is an array of issues regarding the trauma of women and to cope with this emerging
problem it is important to facilitate some principles regarding the framework of the Trauma-
informed service (Kanel, 2014). In this context, there are 10 fundamental principles or guidelines
or aspects that can be delivered a good deal of effectiveness to the trauma informed service.
These principles reflect the values and the practices that are intertwined with the definition of
trauma and crisis situation. The objectives of this service are to ensure safety to the survivors and
their unique needs to resolve the obstacles that they face in their life time.
Combating the crisis situation
In case of the interpersonal violence and child abuse, the first principle firmly deals with
the issues regarding women identity, relationship and expectations. The second principle
advocates the aim to implement some programs that are effectively curbed down the trauma and
help the female patients to recover. The third principle reflects the empowerment of the women

so that they become able to deal with their own problem and take a stand when it requires
(Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2016). In addition to this, the fourth principle is focusing on the choice and
control of the victims. As the focus is primarily putted on women therefore the principle also
emphasises on women only. Relationship collaboration is the primary aim of the fifth principle
whereas the sixth principle emphasises on the elements of needs for safety, respect and
acceptance of women as equal entity. Adaptation over symptoms and resilience over pathology
are the key concept of the seventh principle (Elliott et al., 2005). The goal of the eighth principle
is to reduce the possibilities of future traumatisation. The ninth and tenth principles develop an
idea of perceiving an idea of the cultural background of the victim and solicit her in this regard.
