Crisis Management and Leadership: A Presentation for MBA401 Students

This presentation examines organizational crises, using the 7-Eleven organization as a case study. It explores the causes of crises, potential consequences, and the role of leadership in crisis management. The presentation highlights servant leadership, discussing its advantages and disadvantages during a crisis. It also provides recommendations for business owners and managers to improve strategies for change and growth, focusing on the wage crisis and exploitation of workers. Organisational Crisis
An organisational crisis is the threat to a major product
line, unit, or impact the financial performance.
A number of factors or causes lead to crisis in
organisations, such as poor maintenance, leadership
failure, human error, ineffective practices, and
unresponsive culture (Csnews, 2018).
In this presentation, ‘7-eleven organisations’ has been
taken to identify crisis situations and their outcomes.

Potential consequences of Crisis
• The issue of the crisis situations lead to a harmful impact
on the functioning and growth of organisations.
• Crisis or conflicts affects managers perform their day-to-
day operations and other business activities (Young,
2015).
• The long-term impact has been observed on the
performance.

Leadership in the crisis management
 In business organisations, leaders play a
vital role in the risk management, and
other situations of crisis.
Leaders use strategies or methods to resolve the
issues of crisis situations and lead effectiveness in
performance (Griffin, 2015).
Team-work in the organisation is promoted by
leadership to attain better management of crisis.

Disadvantages of leadership style
The implementation of servant leadership in the
organisation is one of the effective practices of
leadership.
The organisation may face some disadvantages from the
use of servant leadership in the organisation, during
crisis period (Amanchukwu, Stanley and
Ololube, 2015).

Recommendations
In organisations, business owners and managers must
focus upon improvising their strategies to facilitate
change and growth.
The issue of wage crisis and exploitation of the
workers, especially migrant workers has been
highlighted in the presentation.
