Communicating with an older persons
Robyn who is very much experienced nurse and she is serving ASET for very long time
is well known how to treat the patients and she is having very good communication skills. In this
case the issue is arrised to the patient (Max) who was suffering from the Knee issues and for this
he had visited the hospital where he was treated with the knee replacement and after few days he
was discharged from the hospital. Later after his recovery he again started facing issue and
bleeding problems. Concerning to this Max had informed the hospital about these issue and he

cases when the patient are unable to understand about what the hospital staff is trying to say they
can convey those important information to their family who will provide whole information to
them.
In the case of Max who was very much disappointed by his treatment by the hospital
facing issues ASET nurse Robyn should include his family members and care takers and convey
all the important information about the caution which should be taken by them toward the
treatment process (Meleis, 2011). She should also tell them about their faults which result in the
rising of issue and bleeding problems in Max's knee.
The process of Assessment of the Older man in the video
In the video the attitude of knee patient max is very much positive towards his treatment
procedure, he is looking positive even though the issues were raised after his treatment operation
of knee replacement. In this context ASET nurse Robyn, by using her potential experience and
communication skills she was telling him about what were the reasons behind the rising of these
issues towards Max (Linsley, Kane and Owen eds., 2011). In this conversation she told him
about the precautions which are required to be taken by Max after his Knee Replacement. She
also told and ensured him about the treatment process which is going to be taken for his
treatment. In the whole conversation Max was looking little confused at the starting and his
attitude toward the emergency department was also looking very much disappointing, this may
be because of his pain or other issue like getting admitted again in the hospital but after he had a
conversation with Robyn he was looking very much satisfied and the way she was solving his
issues and providing him information about his treatment was looking too much smooth. After,
the conversation between Max and Robyn, his attitude started looking positive toward the
hospital.
Generally the care of old people is considered to be very much harder than comparing to
the care taking of Younger one's who are generally referred as the sandwich generation (Brewer,
2011). This can be improved with the help of further care providing and avoiding of abusing to
the patient, in this context for the development of the fair relation and provide satisfactory
services to the patients care staff can apply various techniques like noting-down the limited
information which is given by the patient and applying those techniques for their better
treatment. Continuously checking up about the need and requirements of patient can be helpful
to develop better relation and assist them with better services and treatment. In addition to the

physical treatment several mental treatment procedures should also be applied toward the patient
which will allow them to sense of getting recovered earlier and this will also put huge impact on
the rate of their recovery (Sagar, 2011). While, having positive attitude their recovery rate will
increase.
Similarly, in case of the knee patient Max, just after having a conversation with Robyn he
was looking very much satisfied and the way she told him everything about his treatment
procedure he was looking very much inspired towards the provided information. After, having a
conversation with the Robyn he seems very much motivated toward his recovery unlike before.
It has also been noticed that observation of human behaviour also need to be referred properly so
that better outcome can be attained. It has allowed understanding the values which are essential
to refer in the treatment process for continuous development.
Health Coaching
In the whole conversation Max was concerned about his health. He told about his issues
that he was facing after the operation such as there was too much of pain in his knees along with
continuous bleeding. He was also concerned about the causing of infection in his legs along with
the major threat which making him very much disappointed was may be because of infection
doctors have to cut his legs (Lowdermilk, Perry and Cashion, 2014). He was also little taken up
because of the expanses for the treatment and these may be the reasons behind his depression and
such demotivated attitude toward the hospital. But later afterwards having a conversation with
one of the most experienced ASET nurse Robyn he was looking very much inspiring and had
developed positive attitude toward the hospital. In the conversation between Robyn and Max he
told her about his concerns and the nurse had attended him very calmly and clear all his issues
and concerns by providing him diverse services. In addition to this, it can be said that for
effective analysis of the treatment process the experts can have focused on application of diverse
testing. Classification of testing methods can be as biometric testing, BP, bloods, etc. By having
an effective consideration of diverse aspects the issues can be identified in desired manner so
that overall outcome can be attained (Kim, 2010). It was also essential for members to have
proper consideration of ASET guidelines in order to deal with the issue.
It has been witnessed that new standards can be set out by the authorities in order to have
effective development of practice so that better assistance can be offered to patient. With an
application of effective communication skills the overall process effectiveness can be advanced.

Moreover, the issues can be understand effectively by having a consideration of communication.
It will allow Max to have effective sharing of health related issues in appropriate manner so that
better support can be offered (Polit and Beck, 2012). As Max was re-admitted to the hospital due
to bleeding that means the monitoring standards were not appropriate at the initial level. In this
respect, the department can have effective designing of monitoring process on continuous basis
after having a knee placement for a week. If any issues were not witnessed then only the
discharge must be provided. It will also assist in reducing the time taken for the overall process
so that effectiveness of treatment process can be advanced.
CONCLUSION
As per the above study, it can be concluded that nursing standards were not properly
followed at the initial level. It means by having effective consideration of nursing values the
overall process of treatment can be advanced in desired manner. Observation and communication
are also key factors which need to be referred properly in order to ensure that appropriate
treatment is being provided to the patient for resolving the issue.
