AI Summary
This report presents a research proposal analyzing the critical success factors of the Perth Arena construction project in Australia. It examines the challenges of meeting project deadlines and budget constraints, highlighting the importance of time and cost management. The study aims to identify key success factors through literature review, survey questionnaires, and interviews with construction managers. The research employs a quasi-experimental design and time series method, with data analysis using mixed methods. The research questions focus on critical success factors, delay factors, and causes of project delays. The research also addresses ethical considerations, including data application and participant consent. The study contributes to understanding effective project management strategies within the construction industry, specifically in the context of large-scale projects like the Perth Arena.

Background of research
study
Analyzing the critical success factors of
the construction projects in Australia
The construction project of Perth Arena
is a challenge for the contractors as well

Overview of Perth Arena
Project
Perth Arena is located on Northbridge Link site in Perth
Department of Housing and Works (DHW) were responsible
for planning as well as contracting of this project plan.
Timeframe of the project was December 2009, while the
completion schedule was commissioned in the year 2012
It was resulted in cost escalation as the project cost was
$483 million and due to issue it became $323 million more,
means 200% more than estimated value of $160 million
(Raggatt 2017).
Inadequacies in governance of Perth Arena Project
exposed to risks such as time as well as money

Literature Study
Nguyen and Hadikusumo (2017)
suggested that critical success factors
are important factors determine success
and failure of the project
Raggatt (2017) argued that a project is
successful to prepare consistent project
plan proceeding to the project design
Caffieri et al. (2018) discussed that as
the project planning was not place at
proper time, therefore cost and schedule
escalation were occurred.

Literature Study
(Contd.)
The governance arrangements are
strengthened, while the risks are
remained of increase in project cost and
time delays.
The findings of this literature study are
that governance framework and also risk
management can strengthen since the
year 2009.
Bhargava et al. (2018) stated that
uncertain completion date can provide
influence capacity to plan project events.

Research questions and hypothesis
Following are list of the research questions based on which entire
study is carried out such as:
What are the critical success factors of Perth Arena construction
project?
How delay factors are correlated to the critical success in the
construction industry?
What are causes of the project delays in Australia’s Perth Arena
construction project?
Based on the research questions, following is the research
hypothesis based on which the data analysis is to be
conducted:
Hypothesis 1: Project time and budget provide positive impact
on the successful completion of construction project.

Research Methodology
Quasi-experimental design: This
research method is chosen for
identification of the variables. It is
provided description of the research
topic so that the reader can understand
as well as experiments are performed
by using survey questionnaires (Flick
2015).
Time series method: This method is
used to forecast and predict future
values based on the observations in
the Perth Arena Construction Project.
Qualitative methodology: The data
which are collected through this
method is contained higher predictive
quality; therefore it should base on
observations in Perth Arena Project and
experiences of construction managers.

Data Analysis
Mixed data analysis is considered for analyzing
the collected data and getting the research
findings.
The quantitative data is performed using
questionnaires where the data analysis is
provided in form of graphs as well as charts
(Long 2016).
The result of mixed data approach is evaluation
of the employees to provide responses on
critical success factors in the selected
construction project

Ethical Issues
Application of data: Commercial application of data is
avoided in this case as the data and information in the
research can be limited to academic purpose only.
Consent form: The participants those are involved in the
research work should require providing their details. In
this case, they are required to fill up consent form before
providing their responses in the interview and
questionnaires.
Involvement of respondents: The researcher is tried not
to provide any external pressure or force the participants
to take part in the survey. The respondents those are
interested in providing their responses should participate
in the survey.
