2. Introduction
Abuse is a kind of unethical term that put negative impact on individual person, whether they are younger or older, not matter how old they are
and gender they have. It refers to action or practice of conducting inappropriate treatment of a thing that often gain unfair benefit ( Evoy & et.al.,
2021). It is fact that abuse come in varied terms such as verbal, and physical assault, and other forms of aggression that put direct impact on
people. The current assignment will be based on specific aged care topic related to a media item and that is “Almost 40 % of residents in aged
care centres have been abused.
3. Summary of media item
From popular media item, it has been summarised that aged people in the care facilities faced critical challenge or situation in form of
abuse that directly put negative impact on their mental and physical health. According to, Botngård & et.al. (2021), neglect is the biggest factor
in aged care facilities on the basis of that, people are abused. It is fact that more than 30.8 percent of residents experienced neglect a kind of

abuse that affect negatively upon their health, either physical or mental. While, Du & Chen, (2021), stated that in aged care facilities more than
22.6 % residents are experiencing psychological or emotional abuse, that affect drastically upon their health recovery and mental stability. In
additional to that, they feel like they are being treated like small child, being shouted at or not having their any concern listed by the care
providers to.
In the view of, Yunus, (2021), there are different forms of activities in aged care homes conducted by staffs in term of abused that affect
residents in negative manner. According to that, they do not behave ethically and appropriately with aged people in the care centres that is
unacceptable.
4. A review of the aged care literature
Article 1
The summary of media item, shed lights on aged care homes practices that abused almost 40 percent of residents. This information is
specified in form of author's arguments, who claim that neglect, emotional or psychological, and maltreatment are the different types of abused
that each resident experience, while staying in aged care centres (Morrissey, Brownell and Caprio, 2022). There are varied forms of articles
based on current topic accessible has been published that contains authors point of view regard older people experienced in the care centres in
negative manner as they all are abused in several forms. Mary Beth Quaranta Morrissey, Patricia Brownell, and Thomas caprio, through their
research highlight the economic and social determinants of older abuse. Neglect become one of the major factors that put negative impact on
elder people who are taking better care and expect the same while staying in care centres (Intersectionality of Race, Ethnicity, and Culture in
Neglect, Abuse, and Violence Against Older Persons: Human Rights, Global Health, and Systems Approaches in Pandemics, 2020). This issue is
created by some unethical practices such as unfair treatment for older adults.

The key strengths of authors claims about above emotional abuse statement that impact on older people in care centres, is that each claim
had specific evidence such as number of journals, in which authors make important discussion about the same topic in detail (Evaluation of
emotional abuse perceived by the elderly living in nursing homes, 2018). The current article stated that elders living in care homes perceived
emotional abuse, that is not appropriate for their better growth, or health recovery (Yesilot, Manav, & Gozuyesil, 2018).
Article 3
From this journal it has been summarised that older adults are abused in health care centres in lower middle income nations like India,
etc. They are abused emotionally and psychologically that is not good for their well-being at the critical stage of their life, when they need
family support. 24% of aged people according to current study experienced abused in last few months (Grover & et.al., 2021). As it specify the
strength of claims claimed by the several authors above related to given media item.
Article 4
Elder peoples in aged care centres are facing issue such as neglect a type of abuse that affect negatively upon their mental growth and
physical well-being (Beaulieu, Genesse, & St-Martin, 2021). Elder abuse and neglect rapidly replace by the concept of mistreatment that affect
older people.
Article 5
It is fact that the above claims of authors in the context abused are appropriate as more articles also stated the same thing. The resident
elders are facing the worst situation in residential aged care services or homes (Woolford,Stacpoole & Clinnick, 2021). The current article define
the history and characteristics of resident in systematic review format.
Article 6
Depression and anxiety are the outcomes of alder abused in older care facilities that affect the way the live their live and take treatments,
which is not up to their expectations (Doyle & et.al., 2021).

5. Knowledge gaps identified from literature reviewed
Financial, physical and abandonment are the three types of elder abuse that require a proper study and in detail information, which in
turn contribute to generate excellent awareness among people about each concept. The appropriate research on the basis of above three topics
related to abuse still need to be done, as most of the older people in aged care centres are also experiencing the same situations, which is not
good for their continuous health issue recoveries. It leads to decrease their mental and physical growth that is important for care provider to take
into their consideration.
6. Implications for the older person
The current information collected from relevant sources put positive impacts on care of older residents who are living in aged care
centres or homes. As overall info shed lights on how they are treated in the care homes and what types of situations they face, which is not
acceptable. After gathering information about aged people abused, it can be examined that they will take better care, which is essential for
voluntary organisations to take into their consideration as they are also accountable to provide the best care treatments to older people, who
always tend to obtain the same, keeping themselves away from homes (Ramisetty & et.al., 2021). There are different types of strategic solutions
accessible in the world in the context of future care related to older individuals who are abused by the staff members of aged care homes.
They can form a team of expert in appropriate manner, who will take charge of taking better care of individual aged person, either male
or female. They can segregate teams into two group for example, male employees can take care of male older, while female volunteer take better
care of older women's. Another recommendation that aged care centres can take into its consideration and then make strategic actions
accordingly, which is necessary for them to do that. For example, they can take effort to follow legalisation about equality and also generate
awareness about the same in the workplace that improve or develop effectiveness among people about conducting ethical practices that do not
impact negatively upon older, especially in term of abused. It can lead to decrease health issues among aged people, that is not good for their
healthy living.

7. Importance to new graduate nurses
The information about aged people abused in older care homes played significant role in my career growth and success in the recent time
and in the future as well (Alshawush, Hallett & Bradbury‐Jones, 2021). As I am practising nursing related practices in order to become a new
graduate nurse further, which is one of my long term aim, that I want to achieve in appropriate manner, and for which I worked really hard. The
information that I collected from all the articles and main media item, play important role in regard to career success and also influence
positively in form of driving my attention toward avoiding those activities that aged care staff members has been conducted in unethical way. It
makes me capable to focus on providing better care to older people instead of avoiding their concern. I will also conduct practice to consider
what they want and how they expect to be treated by the others. It will influence my future nursing practice positively as a soon to be new
graduated nurse, with full of responsibilities that I am accountable to fulfil appropriately. I will conduct ethical practice in the future after
considering the information collect via previous studies.
8. Conclusion-
On the basis of above discussion it has been identified that, older people had faced critical situations as they are being abused by the staff
members in aged care homes. As they are neglected by the workers who are not taking their concern seriously and consider the same things,
which is essential for them to do so systematically. Older people are facing challenges to eat and utilise continence helps that affect the way they
live. Furthermore, from above analysis it has been determined that by follows strategic recommendations, aged home cares will improved their
performance and practices.
