Social media have become an integral part of the legal procedure which creates issues
from the first meeting of attorneys with their customers to the verdict. It affects litigators in the
fields of criminal, civil and family law. Many authors are of the view that the risk and threat to
the lawyer and the consumer are common.
Some ethical minefields in the field of law are social media profiles, LinkedIn
recommendations, blogs, and responding to social media.

Here the term ‘sanctionable’ means it ruins your case and destroys the opportunity for
justice for your client.
Facebook offers its users an option to ‘Download Your Info’. A zip file with information
about the timeline, blogs, notes, and images can be downloaded with just one click of the mouse.
The information which cannot be accessed by only logging into an account is also included, such
as advertisements that user has clicked on, IP addresses logged into when the user accesses their
Facebook account, along with other information that may be important.

guidelines very carefully. I share my pictures, information only with my friends and family

members. I hide that information which is personal, such as an address, contact numbers, and
friend list. I also use social media very carefully in my office premises and to avoid conflict
never post any information and images relating to the office.
