• Intercultural communication:

• Dynamic component of contemporary business organisation

ANALYSIS
• This presentation is focused on assessment of different issues arise in Backpack
beds while encounter with people of Sulawesi.
• The covered issues which require a depth understanding are stated as follow:
• Different cultural values and etiquette
• Direct versus indirect styles of communication
• Different cultural norms of decision making

CHALLENGE ONE
• The first foremost challenge which has been discussed by management of
Backpack beds is difference in culture values and etiquettes.
• This issues arises at Sulawesi due to following reasons:
• Sulawesi is a part of Indonesia and Backpack Beds is an Australian
company. Thus, it define a difference in cultural value of a company.
• Employees of Backpack beds belongs to Australian culture and follow such
etiquettes. This also create a difference between people of two countries.
• Backpack Beds has to work with different other business ventures. Thus,
this will be going to hamper their communication channel and take long
time to understand their culture.

CHALLENGE TWO
• Another issue or challenge for a company is direct versus indirect style of
communication.
• This sort of issue arises for a company due to:
• Linguistic difference between people
• Use of different methods of formal communication
• Lack of understanding due to interaction

CHALLENGE THREE
• While executing operations in other parts of the world, one more critical
challenge arises.
• The challenge which leads to face by Backpack Beds is different cultural
norms of decision making.
• This problem leads to take place due to following reasons:
• Merger and joint execution of business require undertaking of all individual
• Sulawesi tsunami harms various people. Thus, decision making is hard in
context of delivery of services.
• Cultural difference in Indonesia and Australia also creates problem in
managing effective decision.

RECOMMENDATIONS
• Cultural difference and gap arises due to lack of communication and
understanding of other aspects and values.
• Thus, there are various problems lead to face by Backpacks Beds while
supporting Sulawesi homeless people.
• They have faced certain issues like language barrier, decision making with
norms etc.

RECOMMENDATION FOR ISSUE ONE
• The first and major issue is difference in cultural values and etiquettes.
• Hence, for controlling such problems, company need to prepare suitable and
relevant strategies.
• HR manager of a company have to take charge and prepare a proper report for
all people affected due to Tsunami and create a multicultural team.
• This will aid in managing issue of cultural values as team get proper training.

• It is essential to underpin the format of communication with an individual

understanding.
