Question 1
The three negative aspects of cross cultural communication that has been enumerated in the
respective video chosen are given hereafter.
1. The most negative aspect of cross cultural communication is the issues of familiarity and
acceptance. According to the speaker, it often happens that cultural and traditional
differences between people from different nationalities and ethnicities collide with one
another while interaction or in any kind of interpersonal communication. There are
certain factors that the western civilization and society accepts easily but the people from
eastern civilization finds issues in it. According to the video, an Italian might think
differently of “going into the forest” than what a non Italian might think (Youtube.com.,
2014). Therefore, according to him, humans are primitively and primarily guided by their
culture and tradition they belong to since it is their collective identity and cultural capital.
Therefore, they are guided by their tradition in order to judge and accept certain behavior
or code of conduct. So, such issues of acceptance and familiarity occur.
2. Perceptions: perception is another factor that is highly regarded as a barrier. Different
people from different cultural background have different perceptions regarding the world
and the social statics and dynamics. Therefore, perceptions vary from person to person. In
a cross cultural communication, the listener might perceive something else than what is
communicated about which can lead to chaos (Hurn & Tomalin, 2013).
3. Cultural prejudice: prejudices are everywhere and it has also perceived in language as
well. Cultural prejudices play a big role in misunderstandings and miscommunication
within the cross cultural communication.

Question 2
Three positive impacts of cross cultural conflict in communication according to the video is
enumerated hereafter.
1. Economy of language: after a cross cultural conflict occurs, both the parties understand
their faults and drawbacks. Such understanding and insight might lead to enhancement of
communication which is often called “brevity is the spice of wit” which literally means
the insight of economy of language is perceived.
2. Enrichment: with cross cultural conflict, the parties come to know about the dynamics of
their culture and a cultural exchange occurs between the two parties which is always
considered to be positive and enriching for the participants.
3. Mending of personal biases: The video has also talked about certain personal biases and
preconceived notions that the individuals in a society perceives and in order to remove
them completely from the mind, cross cultural communication helps. With cross cultural
conflict, people come to understand the practical facts of different culture rather than the
preconceived notions.
