Question 1: Causes and Consequences
The Arboleda Corporation (AC) and Global Entertainments (GE) have been
working together for many years. The purpose of their collaboration as shown in the
case study is to establish a Philippines cultural entertainment center in Mindanao.
Together, they will try to represent the culture of Philippines through many cultural
activities such as rides, live performances, etc. The aim of this project will be to
represent the uncovered history and facts of the Philippines’ culture to the international
tourists. The purpose is to let the world know more about the culture of Philippines, so
that, the lost glory of the island is regained1.
This project will also highlight the other aspects of tourism, which have affected
the attractiveness of Mindanao. The environmental concerns surrounded to this center
have affected or destructed its beauty. Some of the most popular and well-parts of the
island were exploited notably. It is expected that this project will help this island regain
its lost fame, and became environmentally and socially suitable for the global tourists2.
The model needed to lead this project should be one that effectively unites its
stakeholders on the environmental and social concerns of this project.
Question 2: Main Stakeholders
The role of stakeholders in the development of cultural entertainment center in
Mindanao would be of high importance. AC and GE have already been the part of a
successful project named ‘A Water Entertainment Park’ and ‘Casino’ outside Manila two
years ago. It shows they have potentials to lead major projects like ‘A cultural
entertainment center’ to be in Mindanao. However, they would need the adequate

support of the stakeholders to lead this project effectively3. Below is a mention of the
stakeholders of this project and their expected contribution to this project4:
1. AC and GE – AC is the Philippine partner of GE. They have already worked
together on a project two years ago. This time the union will handle a project
inside Manila with a purpose to resurrect the Philippines’ cultural history as well
as highlight environmental concerns of the center. It is to make tourists, the local
interest groups and island government officials aware of the social and
environmental concerns of the place. Moreover, the ultimate purpose of this
project is the development of sustainable tourism in Mindanao.
2. Island government officials – Any social and environmental-wellbeing activity will
require adequate support of the Island government officials. For example, a
variety of live performances will require the approval of the government officials.
The domestic and international travelers, the target market for this project will be
encouraged to take part in cultural shows, visit to rides, exhibits, etc. to enable
them feel good about the place. However, such activities cannot be performed
until and unless there is proper arrangement at the local level such as the
availability of resources, adequate security to tourists, etc.
3. Local interest groups – The role of local interest groups such as the communities,
the youth population, the property dealers, etc. will be of high significance. The
property dealers for example can support this project through their approvals on
a deal. Similarly, the youth population of the island can take part in the project to
act as volunteers and interact with the international tourists. This would just be a
professional learning experience to these volunteers; but also a cultural learning
experience.

before making an expansion in Mindanao. The Carroll's CSR Pyramid serves as a
comprehensive model towards identifying the different measures that might be
considered by an organization with the purpose of empowering the sustenance related
aspects5. In this connection, the enumeration of Carroll's CSR Pyramid in the case
would allow the stakeholders in developing cognition on the different factor conditions
like economic, legal, ethical and philanthropic responsibilities that might be considered
for developing the CSR strategies.

The economic responsibility of an organization is to remain profitable. In this
connection, the stakeholders of the organization are expected to conduct a market
survey for identifying the profitability of the joint venture. The improved scope of
profitability of the organization would allow the stakeholders in improving the rate of
economic sustenance. Moreover, the model also enumerated the legal responsibilities
that the same might consider while developing the operationalization. In this connection,
the stakeholders of the organization are expected to conduct a detailed assessment on
the legislative and regulatory elements in Mindanao while developing the policies and
strategies for the venture. The improved cognition on the legal elements would allow the
organizational stakeholders in identifying the legitimacy of the different processes that
are being planned by the same while operating as per the common goals of establishing
the organization.
The ethical and philanthropic responsibilities are specifically aimed towards the
social benefits and the CSR strategies that an organization might consider for adhering
to the needs of the communities. The delineation of the ethical and the philanthropic
responsibilities, in accordance with the model, would allow the stakeholders of the case
organization in developing strategies for adhering to the common needs of the
community stakeholders. In this connection, the organizational stakeholders might take
the initiative of improving communication with the different communities with the
purpose of identifying their concerns and inducing the same in their strategies.
Limitations of the model in the case organization’s setting
The CSR strategies of an organization are specifically based on the triple bottom
line approach of social, environmental, and economic sustenance. However, the
Carroll's CSR Pyramid lacked specific areas referring to the recognition of
environmental concerns. The lack of assessing the environmental concerns might affect

the capability of the organization in improving the scope of their CSR activity in
Mindanao. The major limitation of the model is specifically based on the effectiveness of
the business operations in maintaining the effectiveness of their operations in
accordance with the environmental consideration based needs in Mindanao. The legal
and the ethical aspects might hold certain weightage on the environmental concerns
and thereby influence the CSR strategies of the business. However, the absence of a
different element based on identifying the environmental responsibilities that might be
considered by any organization has restricted the capability of the case organization in
improving the scope of their CSR setting in Mindanao.
