AI Summary
This project presents a comprehensive plan for a learning experience designed to foster cultural competence in an early childhood education setting. The core activity, the "do or tell ball," encourages children and families to share their cultural heritage through stories, performances, and artistic expressions. The project emphasizes inclusivity, ensuring participation from all cultural groups represented. It outlines the learning materials needed, including an opaque bag, colored balls, and optional props. The learning environment is designed to be flexible, accommodating both indoor and outdoor settings. The plan explicitly addresses how the experience promotes participation, encourages sharing of cultural knowledge, broadens cultural diversity, and cultivates positive attitudes toward inclusion and cross-cultural understanding. The project aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework, particularly Outcome 2, and addresses the requirements of the National Quality Framework, specifically Quality Area 6, emphasizing collaborative partnerships with families and communities. The project also includes a second part where the learning experience is implemented and observed, demonstrating practical application of the planned activities and promoting a positive and inclusive environment.

Project v1.1 (2018/01/19)
Learning Experiences Development Activity Sheet
Provide an outline of the group learning experience
In this learning experience targeted towards building strong inter cultural bonds, the participants
are engaged in an activity that I would call the “do or tell ball”. The objective behind the activity is
simple, the participants are allowed to either tell a story (that they relate the most to their cultural
background), or narrate a life experience (that hold high significance for them). Alternately, they can
also showcase something, either art or song or dance or any form of traditional art form that they
have learnt or known.
The activity is developed keeping in mind that young children will be involved who would or would
not have any form of cultural knowledge or understanding. Thus, instead of the cultural richness of
the narratives or the act being the primary focus, the highlight of this task is put on building a strong
communication and bonding.
The participant would first be made to sit in a circle and they would be assigned random spots to
increase inclusion and mixing of individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds. There are two
differently coloured balls, a blue and a green that would be put in a bag. The participant would
randomly pick up a ball from inside the bag. The ball signifies that the participant would have to tell
a story or a life experience. The green ball entails that the participant must perform something for
the group.
In order to efficiently improve the children’s performance, they will be allowed to accompany their
performance or the narrative with the help of an adult. Here the idea is not to gather a culturally
rich narrative or performance from the child but to enhance their participation and experience.
In order to release performance related anxiety issues, a small warm up/ice-breaker game would be
played initially.
Learning experience requirements
List the learning materials you require.
The group is inclusive of individuals from all cultures and communities in Australia as represented in my
workplace. The environment can be a classroom or a hall or even an outdoor open area as seen fit during
the activity.
The materials required for the activity would be an opaque bag, a small green coloured and a small blue
coloured ball. There can be storybooks or small props like sticks or coloured clothes and papers that can
also be kept so that the performer can chose to use any of them as s/he finds fitting.
Outline the set-up requirements of the physical learning environment.
It is required that the set up of the learning environment should be fit to include inter cultural diversity.
The environment can be a hall where everyone can be accommodated. However the most preferred
environment would be a well lit outdoor environment where everyone can experience the freedom and
the serenity of nature while they partake in the learning experience.
The learning environment will be uncluttered and spacious to provide more opportunity to the
participants to engage in activities and tasks. There will be minor props for the participants to use while
performing. A provision for a portable music system and some musical instruments can also be made.
The participants will also be encouraged to bring their own musical instruments if they wish to.
In case of an indoor environment, there will be a provision for a small media system, preferably a
projector and a screen.
Lastly, I would be an optional addition, but a camera / handy cam can be used to record the experience
and develop a small video based story out of it.
Outline how the learning experience promotes participation by all cultural groups.
The learning experience is inclusive of all the individuals as participants irrespective of their socio –
cultural background. That also includes the Indigenous Australian communities, the Aboriginals and the
Torres Strait islanders. Partaking in the ‘do or tell’ activity while passing the bag around ensures that all
the participants get an equal opportunity at showcasing their talent or sharing their stories.

Project v1.1 (2018/01/19)
Outline how the learning experience encourages all families who use the service to share their cultural
knowledge, background, customs, and traditions.
The core of the experience is a performance or narrative with the focus on culture and tradition. Besides,
the activity is designed to include all participants irrespective of cultural diversity. It also includes the
families from my workplace including their children. By actively encouraging the families to participate in
the experience, it allows them to share their cultural knowledge, background, customs, and traditions.
Outline how the learning experience provides the opportunity for children and families who use the
service to broaden their cultural diversity experiences.
Through inclusivity in the experience, the children and the families using the service are provided the
opportunity to broaden their cultural diversity and experiences. All the participants get an opportunity to
either share a story or showcase a performative art. This provides an opportunity for exposure to the
participants of the activity to different kinds of culturally diverse traditions and practices, thereby
enhancing their experience.
Outline how the learning experience promotes positive attitudes to inclusion and cross-cultural
understanding.
Firstly, the arrangement of the participants is made in such a way that they are seated randomly (young
children will not be separated from their parents unless they wish to sit with their friends). This increases
the opportunity for cultural equality and communication.
Secondly, the activity is designed to engage, entertain and enhance the cultural experience of the
participants thereby promoting positive attitudes to inclusion and cross-cultural understanding.
Outline how the learning experience promotes secure and respectful relationships between children,
families, and other adults.
By actively involving the families as well as their children in the experience, it is ensured that a secure
and respectful relationship between the children, adults and the families are established and nurtured.
Explain how your learning experience is consistent according to the Early Years Learning Framework, in
particular Outcome 2.
The outcome 2 of the EYLF, (CHILDREN ARE CONNECTED WITH AND CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR WORLD)
States that the children are expected to foster an understanding of the rights and responsibilities
pertaining active community participation, respect diversity and become socially responsible towards
environment 1. In that regard, the experience is fruitful as it promotes the children to engage actively in
community activities as well as through sharing their own and experiencing the stories of others (many
stories of Indigenous Australian communities would involve love, reverence and respect towards the
nature and environment) while also taking part in performative activities, they grow a cultural
understanding, develop a respect and understanding towards diversity as well as become socially and
environmentally aware and responsible.

Project v1.1 (2018/01/19)
Learning Experiences Development Activity Sheet
Provide an outline of the group learning experience
This is and amalgamated group reading and performative activity that is preferably done over a range of two to
three days. It involves a text that has been curated for the children in the workplace. In order to promote the
inclusivity and diversity of the children in the workplace, the text will be developed incorporating elements of
cultural and traditional diversity as well as the different customs and backgrounds of the children.
The text can be a narrative of a child, or an animal or the perspective of a natural entity like a tree or a shrub, a
rock in a forest or a river. It is important that the text includes diverse cultural elements instead of arbitrary
storylines.
The group learning experience is divided into three parts. In the first part, the narrative will be built involving all
the children in either painting or drawing specific elements for the story or engaging them in sharing their
experiences that can potentially contribute to the development of the narrative.
In the second part, the story will be narrated to the children and afterwards, the narrative will be discussed will
all the children in the workplace by asking them what they thought about the story, which character they felt
most connected to and why etc. Afterwards, the importance of the cultural elements will be discussed with the
children with relevant experiential help from the children to whose cultures are connected to the story
wherever relevant.
The second part of the experience involves all the children in a role play adaptation of the text where very child
will be given a character to adopt and through the play, they will explore the story in greater depth, detail and
enjoyment while learning about cultural elements as stated before.
Learning experience requirements
List the learning materials you require.
The text should be simple and incorporate pictures and aspects of rhyme, rhythm and intonation.
e.g. “I am the big blue river,
near the forest I flow
For many years I saw
how the sun and the moon glow “
Other requirements include a projector and screen to display the text to the children
An audio system for the text to be narrated to the children.
Props for the role play activity.
Coloured papers, crayons and other painting materials.
Rewards for the children, like small edible treats (parents will be informed about the rewards in prior to
evade the possibility of health or culturally detrimental items.
Outline the set-up requirements of the physical learning environment.
The learning environment will be in a classroom that is well decorated with colourful and age appropriate
decorative materials. There will be ample space for the children to move around while maintaining the
safety regulations of the workplace. The learning environment will also have props and toys for the
children to play with during breaks.
Outline how your group learning experience will look at the different cultures, customs, backgrounds,
and way of life of each child within their cultural group.
The narrative is curated keeping the aspects of cultural diversity and traditions in mind and how they are
portrayed as well as experienced in a cross cultural context. The narrative being relatable by the children
provides them the opportunity to involve themselves actively as the experience specifically looks at the
different cultures, customs, backgrounds, and way of life of each child within their cultural group.
Outline how your group learning experience promotes an understanding of alternative worldviews.
The group learning experience being inclusive in nature, entails that the experience will not be narrowed

down into a mono-cultural worldview, instead by engaging all children in the activity incorporating
cultural nuances, the experience enables a promotion of alternate worldview understanding.
Outline how your group learning experience helps children establish a strong sense of cultural identity
and security and a link to their own world.
For the children to actively participate in the building and exploration of a narrative that is based on their
own cultures and traditions means that they are being provided an opportunity to explore the variety in
their own cultures and the differences they posit. The engagement with the narrative as well as the role
play game further involves all the children in a more inclusive and focussed activity that will help
cultivate a sense of cultural identity and security while linking them to their own world.
Outline how your group learning experience helps to establish positive attitudes towards inclusion and
cross-cultural understanding.
The group learning experience promotes the establishment of positive attitudes towards inclusion and
cross-cultural understanding through involving the children in the development of the narrative, as well
as experiencing it through a customised narration and display of art works. Finally through the role play
games where each child will be involved equally to represent a crucial element of their cross cultural
aspects, the children can experience and establish those aforementioned attitudes.
Outline how your group learning experience is inclusive of all of the different cultures represented at
your workplace and provides a supportive and inclusive environment for all children.
The narrative involves elements of culture and tradition that has been collated from a thorough study of
every child’s cultural and life backgrounds and includes examples from their own experiences and stories
to promote inclusivity. Besides, through the play, every child irrespective of their cultural differences will
be involved, thus establishing promotion for inclusivity.
Explain how your group learning experience allows children to resolve issues as a group.
As the children engage in the group learning experience there are bound to be issues either in the
development of the narratives or the play act. In those cases, as a group, the children will be provided
opportunity to re-establish role adoptions to their liking. The educator will be responsible for moderating
conflict solving but mostly the children will be given the opportunity to resolve issues as a group
Explain how your group learning experience encourages a positive approach to inclusion and cultural
diversity.
The activities of painting or helping with narrative building as well as the role play are specifically
selected based on the children’s styles. Almost all children in the early age groups like to play physically
involving games and activities. Alternately, there are children who like to sit and indulge in cognitively
demanding tasks. The activity thus encourages positive approach to inclusion and diversity by enabling
every child’s interests in the process.
Explain how your group learning experience encourages establishes respectful interaction.
Since every child will be involved in the experience, they will have the opportunity to interact with each
other. Through teacher moderation , a healthy and respectful interaction will be built in the process
where the children will interact on multiple basis, either asking help or providing feedback as well as
through discussion during the play.;
Explain how your learning experience meets the cultural competence requirements as set out in the
Early Years Leaning Framework.
Cultural competence according to the EYLF is “the ability to understand, communicate with, and
effectively interact with people across cultures” 1. Through the experience, every child is provided an
opportunity to be able to understand the cultural differences in a positive way while maintaining
communication and interaction with peers belonging to diverse cultural groups and subgroups.
Therefore, the experience meets the requirements of the cultural competence as set by the EYLF.

down into a mono-cultural worldview, instead by engaging all children in the activity incorporating
cultural nuances, the experience enables a promotion of alternate worldview understanding.
Since every child will be involved in the experience, they will have the opportunity to interact with each
other. Through teacher moderation , a healthy and respectful interaction will be built in the process
where the children will interact on multiple basis, either asking help or providing feedback as well as
through discussion during the play.;
