1CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL VALUE OF VINCENT VAN GOGH
Vincent Van Gogh is considered to be one of the most notable Post-Impressionist artists
of the 20th century. In this regard, the essay tries to understand the cultural and educational
importance of Vincent van Gogh by critically analyzing his art work.
The Stray Starry Night portrays a swirling ring of clouds and the stars haphazardly
arranged in the painting (Richardson et al., 2017). The educational significance of this painting is
that it can be taught to the children that beauty can be found even admist chaos. Culturally, this
painting has tried to show the chaotic way people perceive themselves but still try to bring some
order in their life.
The self portrait of Van Gogh reveals almost a merciless way of the painter as to how he
perceives himself. The cultural value of this painting lies in the fact that the artist tried to show
all of the negative feelings through this painting.
Similarly, the painting of the Yellow House is personally significant to the painter. The
House is a show of hope and happiness for the painter as before moving in to this house, he had
faced considerable amount of hard ships. The painting has cultural and educational value as it
can be taught to the children that they should not lose hope in the face of troubles (van Gogh-
Bonger & Gayford, 2018).
To conclude, art is seen to be an important cultural and social requirement of the human
community as it reflects the primary underpinnings of the human civilization in a graphical
manner.
